Δύο εβδομάδες μετά την έκθεσης τη Γενεύης η Mercedes είχε παρουσιάσει την S63 AMG Coupe, με εμφανή τη διάθεση της να την δείξει στην επόμενη μεγάλη έκθεση, αυτή της Νέας Υόρκης, μιας και στηρίζει πολλά στο αμερικάνικο κοινό.
Η ισχυρότερη έκδοση της S-Class Coupe φοράει ένα διακριτικό και συγκρατημένο εξωτερικό. Στο στυλάτο αμάξωμα του αυτοκίνητο έχουν προστεθεί μεγαλύτεροι αεραγωγοί και πιο μυώδη side skirts ενώ στο πίσω μέρος, οι χρωμιωμένες, τετραπλές απολήξεις της εξάτμισης και ο μαύρος διαχύτης κλέβουν την παράσταση. Το αυτοκίνητο πατάει σε σφυρήλατες ζάντες ελαφρού κράματος 19 ιντσών της AMG με ελαστικά διάστασης 255/45 εμπρός και 285/40 πίσω.
Κάτω από καπό, βρίσκεται ένας twin-turbo V8 κινητήρας με χωρητικότητα 5.5 λίτρων που αποδίδει 585 ίππους και 900 Nm ροπής. Όχι ότι έχει ιδιαίτερη σημασία αλλά είναι κατά 41 ίππους ισχυρότερος και κατά 100 Nm πιο ροπάτος από αυτόν της απερχόμενης CL63 AMG. Εκτός της επιπλέον ιπποδύναμης και ροπής, η S63 AMG Coupe κουβαλάει και 65 κιλά λιγότερα σε σύγκριση με την CL63 AMG. Ο κινητήρας συνδυάζεται δε με ένα 7-τάχυτο αυτόματο κιβώτιο που προσφέρει τρία modes λειτουργίας (C: Controlled Efficiency, S: Sport και M: Manual).
Χάρη σε όλα αυτά, η πισωκίνητη Coupe χρειάζεται μόλις 4.3 δευτερόλεπτα για να πιάσει τα 100km/h από στάση ενώ η τελική είναι ως συνήθως περιορισμένη στα 250km/h. Αν ο αγοραστής επιλέξει την 4MATIC έκδοση, τα 100km/h έρχονται 0.4 δευτερόλεπτα ταχύτερα.
Φυσικά, η S63 AMG Coupe είναι εξοπλισμένη (ή μπορεί να εξοπλισθεί) με όλα τα τεχνολογικά καλούδια της απλής αδερφής της. Χρησιμοποιεί την AIRMATIC αερανάρτηση και το MAGIC BODY CONTROL ενώ διαθέσιμο είναι και το σύστημα “Active Curve Tilting Function”, ένα σύστημα που συνεργάζεται με το Active Body Control και δύο κάμερες στο εμπρός μέρος του αυτοκινήτου. Όταν το σύστημα ανιχνεύσει στροφή έως και 15 μέτρα μπροστά από το όχημα, ξεκινά να “γέρνει” το αυτοκίνητο έως και 2.5 μοίρες (σαν μοτοσυκλέτα) για να μειώσει την διαμήκη επιτάχυνση που νιώθουν οι επιβάτες. Επιπλέον, για την S63 AMG Coupe είναι διαθέσιμα και carbon composite φρένα καθώς και οι AMG Performance Studio ζάντες ελαφρού κράματος 20 ιντσών ενώ για το εσωτερικό, ο υποψήφιος αγοραστής μπορεί να τοποθετήσει sport καθίσματα, επένδυση από Nappa δέρμα και flat-bottom τιμόνι.\
Για τον πρώτο χρόνο πώλησης της S63 AMG Coupe, θα είναι διαθέσιμη και η “Edition 1” έκδοση. Αυτή εξοπλίζεται με κρύσταλλα Swarovski στα LED εμπρός φωτιστικά σώματα, sport καθίσματα επενδυμένα με Nappa δέρμα, ειδικά πατάκια, το Night View Assist Plus σύστημα, ξύλινα διακοσμητικά σε μαύρο χρώμα κ.ά.
Οι παραγγελίες για την τετρακίνητη έκδοση είναι ήδη ανοιχτές, ενώ αν θες τη δικίνητη έκδοση θα περιμένεις μέχρι τον Ιούλιο. Για τις πρώτες παραδόσεις, όμως, θα πρέπει να περιμένεις μέχρι τον Σεπτέμβριο.

New York – 60 years after the legendary 300 SL “Gullwing” debuted in the “Big Apple”, another sporty dream car with the three-pointed star makes its entrance: The new S 63 AMG Coupé takes centre stage on the Mercedes-Benz stand at the New York International Auto Show. The stunning high-performance coupé sees Mercedes-AMG enhance its model lineup with a luxurious sports car that combines supreme power and performance with groundbreaking efficiency. AMG is in the fast lane throughout the world, exceeding last year’s first quarter sales figures by more than 50 percent. Mercedes-Benz USA, too, has been able to follow on seamlessly from its record year in 2013. Each of the first four months of this year ended with a new sales record.
“The new S 63 AMG Coupé is another exciting AMG dream car in the luxury segment. We now also offer our new two-door with the optional, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Top performance thanks to systematic lightweight design and more power
Thanks to lightweight design, vehicle weight has been reduced by 65 kilograms – despite a more extensive standard equipment package than on the preceding model. The weight saving benefits performance and fuel consumption in equal measure. Depending on the model variant, the S 63 AMG Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in as little as 3.9 seconds, while top speeds stands at 250 km/h (electronically limited). At the same time, the fuel consumption of the new AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo has dropped in the NEDC compared with its predecessor by 0.4 to 10.1 litres per 100 kilometres – although the new 430 kW (585 hp) high-performance unit from the BlueDIRECT engine family generates 30 kW (41 hp) more power. Maximum torque has even increased by 100 to 900 Newton metres. This makes the new S 63 AMG Coupé the most fuel-efficient model in its class. Based on power output, torque and fuel consumption, the AMG V8 is one of the most efficient series-production V8 engines in the world.
Further highlights of the S 63 AMG Coupé with rear-wheel drive include the AMG sports suspension based on MAGIC BODY CONTROL with the world’s first curve tilting function. This enables the S 63 AMG Coupé to lean into the bend, similar to a motorcycle rider or skier, thus reducing the lateral acceleration exerted on the occupants. On country roads in particular, this technical innovation offers considerably more comfort and driving fun under high-speed cornering.
Mercedes-Benz USA maintains successful heading
With new sales records set in the first four months of the year, Mercedes-Benz USA carries on seamlessly from its record year in 2013. The most important factors for success include the new S-Class, which found more buyers last year than its three main competitors put together. Another top seller is the CLA, with four out of five customers in the U.S. being newcomers to the brand with the three-pointed star. Looking ahead to the forthcoming launch of the new C?Class, the GLA compact SUV and the zero-emissions B-Class Electric Drive, Steve Cannon, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA says, “We stand at the beginning of the biggest product offensive in our history. By the end of the decade, we will have launched thirty new models in the space of just seven years. So it will be impossible for anyone in the market for a luxury automobile to not consider a Mercedes-Benz.”
