Μετά από την κυρία Carmen Jorda, η Lotus προχώρησε σε μια ακόμη προσθήκη οδηγού στο ρόστερ της. Πρόκειται για τον 25χρονο Adderly Fong, που κατάγεται από το Hong Kong, ο οποίος αναλαμβάνει τον ρόλο του οδηγού εξέλιξης. Σύμφωνα με την επίσημη ανακοίνωση της ομάδας του Enstone, ο Fong θα περάσει από το αναπτυξιακό πρόγραμμα οδηγών της Lotus, ενώ θα δουλεύει στον προσομοιωτή με στόχο την βελτίωση της Hybrid E23 και θα βρίσκεται με την ομάδα σε ορισμένα Grands Prix. Για την ώρα δεν είναι γνωστό εάν θα οδηγήσει το χρυσό-μαύρο μονοθέσιο σε ελεύθερες δοκιμές της Παρασκευής
Ο Κινέζος έχει ήδη πάρει την πρώτη του γεύση από F1, έχοντας οδηγήσει το 2014 την C31 της Sauber σε δοκιμές, ενώ έχει λάβει μέρος και στο FP1 του αγώνα στο Abu Dhabi, ξανά με την ίδια ομάδα. Ο Fong, παράλληλα με τις φετινές του υποχρεώσεις στην Lotus, θα συνεχίσει να αγωνίζεται στο GP3.
Σε παρόμοια νέα, ο Raffaele Marciello, που ανήκει στην ακαδημία νέων οδηγών της Ferrari, θα οδηγήσει για πρώτη φορά σε επίσημη διαδικασία Grand Prix, στην Sepang. Ο 20χρονος Ιταλός θα αντικαταστήσει στην Sauber για το FP1 τον Felipe Nasr. Έτσι, ο πρωταθλητής F3 του 2013, θα αποκτήσει τις πρώτες του εμπειρίες από ένα αγωνιστικό Σαββατοκύριακο στην F1.

Adderly Fong stepped closer to his career goal of becoming the first Chinese Formula 1 driver after joining the Lotus F1 Team as a Development Driver.
The Hong Kong born racer will undergo a driver development programme alongside simulator work aimed towards improving the E23 Hybrid, as well as working with the team at Grands Prix.
It means a busy 2015 for the 25-year-old, who will combine his new role with the GP3 Series and GT Asia seasons.
Despite the busy schedule, Fong’s experience will prove valuable. Only last year, he drove the Sauber C31 in October and clocked up 99 laps, before later becoming the first driver from Hong Kong to make his F1 practice debut during last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
With his feet firmly on the ground, Fong is looking forward to the possibilities of his new role.
“This is a great opportunity to further my racing career; I’ll be able to learn how an F1 team operates during race weekends as an integral part of the team and these invaluable experiences are going to lay the foundations of my future development as an F1 driver,” he said. “I am happy but I am not going to get carried away, for this is only the first of many steps.”
“I aim to become the first Chinese driver to compete in a Formula 1 Grand Prix which will assist to promote the sport in China and also in Hong Kong. There is great potential for me with Lotus F1 Team so I can’t wait to get underway in my new role.”
The current Audi R8 LMS Cup champion, the youngest ever, and 2014 Le Mans racer is an ideal candidate to help build towards a resurgence at Enstone, according to CEO Matthew Carter.
“It’s great to have Adderly join the team,” he said. “We have an aggressive development programme with the E23 so he will be able to both learn from our engineers and race drivers as well as contribute to our car through the course of the season.”
