Το πρωί διέρρευσαν φωτογραφίες και τα χαρακτηριστικά και το μεσημέρι η BMW έδωσε επίσημα τις φωτογραφίες και το δελτίο τύπου της νέας M5.
Μηχανικά η νέα BMW M5 F10 φορά τον ΒMW M TwinPower 4.4-λίτρων twin-turbo V8 ο οποίος συνδυάζεται είτε με ένα 6-τάχυτο μηχανικό κιβώτιο είτε με ένα 7-τάχυτο αυτόματο κιβώτιο διπλού συμπλέκτη M DCT Drivelogic με την ιπποδύναμη του να ανέρχεται στα 560 άλογα (στις 6.000 – 7.000 σ.α.λ) με 680 Nm ροπή (στις 1.500 – 5.750 σ.α.λ). Η κίνηση μεταφέρεται στον πίσω άξονα, αλλά στο μέλλον θα παρουσιαστεί και τετρακίνητη έκδοση. Σίγουρο θεωρείται επίσης ότι αργότερα θα είναι διαθέσιμη και με 6-τάχυτο μηχανικό κιβώτιο.
Τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα θα τα κάνει σε 4.4 δευτερόλεπτα (0.3 γρηγορότερα από την M5 E60), τα 0-200 χλμ/ώρα σε 13 δευτερόλεπτα με την τελική ταχύτητα να αγγίζει τα 305 χλμ/ώρα με το M-Drivers-Package. Χωρίς το M-Drivers-Package περιορίζεται στα 250 χλμ/ώρα.
Έχει μέση κατανάλωση 9.9 λίτρα/100 χλμ, 30% λιγότερο από την προηγούμενη γενιά. Σε αυτό βοηθά το σύστημα Start/Stop αλλά και το σύστημα ανάκτησης ενέργειας. Η ιπποδύναμη έχει αυξηθεί κατά 10% σε σχέση με την προηγούμενη γενιά με την ροπή να έχει αυξηθεί κατά 30%. Η αναλογία κιλών ανά ίππο ανέρχεται στα 3.3 και τεχνολογικά διαθέτει M Servotronic τιμόνι, Dynamic Damper Control και σύστημα ευστάθειας DSC με M Dynamic Mode. Σε ότι αφορά τις εκπομπές CO2 αυτές ανέρχονται σε 232 γρ/χλμ.
Παρόν είναι και το Active M Differential το οποίο ελέγχει ηλεκτρονικά το πίσω διαφορικό περιορισμένης ολίσθησης. Αναλόγως με τις ορέξεις του οδηγού μπορεί να κλειδώσει από 0 έως 100% προσφέροντας είτε ατελείωτες ώρες drifting είτε μέγιστο κράτημα στις στροφές.
Στιλιστικά φοράει ένα παρόμοιο bodykit με αυτό του M5 Concept με ζάντες 19″. Στο εσωτερικό έχουνε τοποθετηθεί μαύρος M πίνακας οργάνων, δερμάτινα σπορ, καθίσματα, δερμάτινη κεντρική κονσόλα, μαύρη οροφή, ηλεκτρονικά ρυθμιζόμενη κολόνα τιμονιού, τετραζονικός κλιματικός, κρυφός φωτισμός και αλουμινένια διακοσμητικά.
Στον στάνταρ εξοπλισμό υπάρχει το BMW ConnectedDrive με την Head-Up Display ενώ έχει επίσης ενεργά Xenon φωτιστικά σώματα με High-Beam Assistant, βραδινή αναγνώριση πεζών, σύστημα προειδοποίησης αλλαγής πορείας, περιμετρική θέαση, σύστημα ειδοποίησης ορίου ταχύτητας, σύνδεση στο internet και άλλα πολλά.
Στον επιπλέον εξοπλισμό υπάρχει το σύστημα Comfort Access, τα πολυλειτουργικά M καθίσματα, ενεργά καθίσματα με μασάζ, πόρτες με σύστημα Soft Close Automatic, πορτ-μπαγκάζ που ανοίγει χωρίς την χρήση χεριών, ηλεκτρική πανοραμική οροφή και trailer.
Ντεμπούτο θα κάνει αρχικά στο M Festival που θα διεξαχθεί από τις 23 έως 26 Ιουνίου κατά την διάρκεια του 24-ωρου αγώνα στο Nurburgring ενώ παγκόσμιο ντεμπούτο θα κάνει στην έκθεση της Φρανκφούρτης τον Σεπτέμβριο. Σε ότι αφορά την τιμή της, αυτή θα κυμαίνεται γύρω στις €100.000 στην Γερμανία.
