Η διεξαγωγή του πρώτου Grand Prix της Formula 1 στην αμερικάνικη ήπειρο, μετά από του 2007 και στην Ινδιανάπολη, φαίνεται να περνάει από χίλια κύματα. Όπως ξέρουμε η πολιτεία που έχει αναλάβει να διοργανώσει τον αγώνα την επόμενη χρονιά είναι το Austin. Μπορεί οι εργασίες να άρχισαν αλλά τελικά δεν πάνε όλα βάση χρονοδιαγράμματος. Αρχικά ήταν η τοποθέτηση του Bernie Ecclestone ότι έχει αμφιβολίες για την διεξαγωγή του αγώνατο 2012 εξαιτίας των προβλημάτων που αντιμετωπίζει η κατασκευάστρια εταιρία και υπάρχουν καθυστερήσεις αλλά και με την ασυνεννοησία με την εταιρεία προώθησης και τον ιδιοκτήτη της περιοχή. Έπειτα, όμως ήρθε η διάψευση όλων αυτών των ισχυρισμών από τον πρόεδρος της πίστας, Steve Sexton, αναφέροντας περιλητπικά ότι “η χρηματοδότηση είναι εξασφαλισμένη, και η κατασκευή είναι εντός του χρονοδιαγράμματος, έτσι δεν καταλαβαίνουμε τα σχόλια του κ. Ecclestone.
Τελικά όμως οι φόβοι του γερο-Bernie είχαν απόλυτη βάση, μιας και σήμερα με ανακοίνωση από τη διοίκηση της πίστας επιβεβαιώνει ότι το έργο της κατασκευής της πίστας έχει τεθεί σε αναμονή επ ‘αόριστον εξαιτίας μιας διαφωνίας με την εταιρεία που είναι υπεύθυνη για την προώθηση του αγώνα, την Full Throttle Productions. Η εν λόγω εταιρία προφανώς και δεν έχει υπογράψει μια πραγματική σύμβαση με την Formula One Management, ή με τους διοργανωτές των MotoGP, με αποτέλεσμα να στείλει τους 300 εργαζόμενους στα σπίτια τους, που δούλευαν για το Circuit of the Americas, μέχρι όταν η Full Throttle μπορέσει να αποδείξει ότι η πίστα θα μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί και να φέρει τους 100.000 οπαδούς που έχουν εκδηλώσει ενδιαφέρον για ένα εισιτήριο στις κερκίδες της.
Δεν έχουμε παρά να περιμένουμε αν θα λυθούν σύντομα αυτές οι διαφορές και διευκρινιστούς οι λεπτομέριες για να δούμε τα μονοθέσια στη νέα αυτή πίστα, αλλιώς θα πρέπει να περιμένουμε μέχρι το 2013 που είναι προγραμματισμένος ο αγώνας στην Νέα Υόρκη. Circuit of The Americas™ Suspends Construction Pending Race Contract Delivery
Readiness for Formula 1™ United States Grand Prix™ Not Yet Affected
AUSTIN, Texas – November 15, 2011 – Organizers of Circuit of The Americas, a premier motor
sports racing and entertainment venue being developed in Austin, Texas, are suspending further construction of the project until a contract assuring the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix will be held at Circuit of The Americas in 2012 is complete. The race contract between Formula One and Circuit of The Americas has not been conveyed to Circuit of The Americas per a previously agreed upon timetable.
While construction at Circuit of The Americas has progressed as scheduled with over 300 workers at the construction site daily, all work will suspend immediately. The delivery of the Formula One Grand Prix race contract will allow construction operations to resume.
“We have spent tremendous resources preparing for the Formula One and MotoGP™ Championship races, but the failure to deliver race contracts gives us great concern,” said Bobby Epstein, founding partner of Circuit of The Americas. “We believe the United States is vital for the future of Formula One and its teams and sponsors. Given the purpose-built Tilke design, creating a unique fan experience and iconic challenge for drivers, we hope that Texas will not be left behind.
Over 100,000 fans have expressed an interest in purchasing tickets for Formula One alone.”
