ROLLE (2 August, 2012) – Nissan X-TRAIL, the compact but highly capable SUV aimed at adventure seekers, has been boosted by two items of innovative equipment designed to make exploring even easier: Nissan Connect and the highly praised Around View Monitor.
Nissan Connect is the company’s fully integrated satellite navigation and entertainment system. As well as a full colour screen for the navigation system, it incorporates iPod and hands-free mobile phone compatibility, Bluetooth audio streaming and USB input along with a single disc CD player and an AM/FM tuner with 18 pre-sets.
Around View Monitor, pioneered on luxury Infiniti models, uses cameras mounted in the grille, tailgate and within both door mirrors to transmit a real time 360 degree image of the car from a bird’s eye perspective to the Nissan Connect screen.
If required, the screen can also show a split picture showing, for example, the overhead image as well as the view from an individual camera. Most commonly used to aid parking manoeuvres, it can also be called upon at low speeds to reveal obstacles that might otherwise be hidden.
Nissan Connect can be found on all grades in the new X-TRAIL line-up, while Around View Monitor forms part of the additional bundle of equipment on the special edition version. Even for variants without the benefit of Around View Monitor, Nissan Connect features a rear-facing camera which displays the view behind the car when reversing.
Incorporating both Nissan Connect and Around View Monitor, the special edition version adds further extra equipment including Intelligent Key for keyless entry, privacy glass, a glass sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels (upgraded from 17-inch) and chrome finishers for the front fog lamps.
X-TRAIL was one of the first compact SUVs bringing together on-road comfort and dynamic handling with practicality and genuine four-wheel drive ability. When refreshed just two years ago, X-TRAIL was given a new grille, front bumper and LED tail-lights and other exterior styling enhancements as well as improvements to the interior quality and functionality.
Mechanical changes included extensive revisions to the 2.0-litre dCi diesel engine for greater performance, better economy and lower emissions. The direct injection, turbocharged and intercooled unit is available in two states of tune, producing 150PS and 173PS (110kW and 127kW respectively), and with the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions.
At the heart of the 4×4 chassis is the latest generation of Nissan’s ALL MODE 4×4-i intelligent electronic four-wheel drive system. Controlled via a rotary knob on the centre console, it offers a choice between two-wheel drive, Auto mode or Lock.
Auto is regarded as the ‘default’ mode: Electronic control allows optimal distribution of torque to front/rear wheels to match road conditions. For tricky terrain and at low speeds, Lock gives X-TRAIL permanent four-wheel drive.
In addition to the diesel variant, a pair of four-cylinder petrol-powered versions are offered in Russia – a 141PS (104kW) 2.0-litre and a 2.5-litre with 169PS (124kW).
