Στη Φρανκφούρτη παρουσιάστηκε το Coupe, στο Los Angeles θα παρουσιαστεί το η ανοικτή έκδοση. Η MINI έδωσε τα χαρακτηριστικά και τις πρώτες φωτογραφίες του MINI Roadster. Το αυτοκίνητο έχει μήκος 3.734 mm με το μεταξόνιο του να αγγίζει τα 2.467 mm. Έχει πλάτος 1.683 mm και ύψος 1.390 mm. Η εξωτερική σχεδίαση δείχνει αρκετά επιθετική (ειδικά στην έκδοση John Cooper Works) με το Roadster να κατασκευάζεται με την σχεδιαστική φιλοσοφία “three-box”, που διαθέτει και το Coupe.
Είναι το 6ο μοντέλο της MINI, είναι αποκλειστικά διθέσιο και ευελπιστεί να γίνει ο αντίπαλος του Mazda MX-5. Σε σχέση με το Coupe, το Roadster έχει κοντύτερο κατά 20 mm και πιο κεκλιμένο παρμπρίζ κατά 13 μοίρες. Αφού δεν υπάρχουν πίσω θέσεις, ο χώρος των αποσκευών ανέρχεται στα 240 λίτρα. Η οροφή του είναι χειροκίνητη υφασμάτινη, με την αεροτομή στο πίσω μέρος ανοίγει μόνη της από ταχύτητες άνω των 80 χλμ/ώρα και κλείνει όταν κινείσαι με λιγότερα από 60 χλμ/ώρα.
Μηχανικά θα είναι διαθέσιμο με 4 κινητήρες. Η entry-level έκδοση φορά τον ατμοσφαιρικό 1600αρη απόδοσης 122 ίππων με 160 Nm ροπής. Τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα θα τα κάνει 9.2 δευτερόλεπτα με την τελική ταχύτητα να αγγίζει τα 199 χλμ/ώρα. Η μέση κατανάλωση του αγγίζει τα 5.7 λίτρα/100 χλμ έχοντας εκπομπές CO2 133 γρ/χλμ.
Η MINI Cooper S Roadster φορά τον 1600αρη turbo κινητήρα που στην περίπτωση αποδίδει 184 άλογα με 240 Nm ροπής. Τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα θα τα κάνει 7.0 δευτερόλεπτα με την τελική ταχύτητα να αγγίζει τα 227 χλμ/ώρα. Η μέση κατανάλωση του αγγίζει τα 6.0 λίτρα/100 χλμ έχοντας εκπομπές CO2 139 γρ/χλμ.
Ακολουθεί η MINI John Cooper Works Roadster (JCW) που και αυτή φορά τον 1600αρη turbo κινητήρα ο οποίος εδώ αποδίδει 211 άλογα με 260 Nm ροπής (280Nm με την λειτουργία overboost). Τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα θα τα κάνει 6.5 δευτερόλεπτα με την τελική ταχύτητα να αγγίζει τα 237 χλμ/ώρα. Η μέση κατανάλωση του αγγίζει τα 7.3 λίτρα/100 χλμ έχοντας εκπομπές CO2 169 γρ/χλμ.
Ο μόνος πετρελαιοκινητήρας στην γκάμα είναι ο 2.0-λιτρος turbo που φορά η έκδοση Cooper SD Roadster. Αποδίδει 143 άλογα με 305 Nm ροπής με τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα να τα κάνει σε 8.1 δευτερόλεπτα με την τελική ταχύτητα να ανέρχεται στα 212 χλμ/ώρα. Η μέση κατανάλωση του αγγίζει τα 4.5 λίτρα/100 χλμ έχοντας εκπομπές CO2 118 γρ/χλμ.
Υπάρχουν δύο κιβώτια διαθέσιμα, ένα μηχανικό 6-τάχυτο και ένα 6-τάχυτο αυτόματο στον προαιρετικό εξοπλισμό. Το αυτόματο κιβώτιο θα είναι διαθέσιμο σε όλους τους κινητήρες εκτός από την έκδοση JCW.
