H Rolls Royce μέσω δελτίου τύπου επιβεβαίωσε το πρόγραμμα ανάπτυξης ενός νέου μοντέλου, το οποίο θα κυκλοφορήσει στην αγορά στα μέσα του 2016.
Αυτό δε θα είναι άλλο από την Wraith Drophead Coupe, αν και η βρετανική εταιρία δεν έδωσε πληροφορίες για την ακριβή ονομασία του μοντέλου. Το αυτοκίνητο, όπως έχουμε δει από τις spy photos, είναι σε διαδικασία εξέλιξης, με την εταιρία να αναφέρει ότι εισέρχεται το επόμενο στάδιο της ανάπτυξης.
Το αυτοκίνητο θα διαθέτει υφασμάτινη οροφή και μηχανικά θα εξοπλίζεται με τον V12 6,6-λίτρων απόδοσης 633 ίππων με 800 Nm ροπής. Τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα θα τα κάνει περίπου σε 4,8 δευτερόλεπτα και αναμένεται να κοστίζει περισσότερο από τις 245.000 που κοστίζει η κλειστή Wraith.
Το νέο μοντέλο της RR θα τεθεί αντιμέτωτο με την Bentley Continental GT Convertible και την Mercedes-Benz S-Class Convertible, που θα παρουσιαστεί και αυτή τον επόμενο χρόνο.

Speaking from the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, West Sussex, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “I am truly delighted to confirm today the development of our new model which will open an exciting new chapter in the great story of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle drophead tourer which will introduce even more discerning men and women to Rolls-Royce ownership.”

The new car is currently undergoing a rigorous process of prototype testing as it enters its next stage of development.
