Peloponnese Tour 2014

ευρώ, μια Ferrari 250 California, μια Ferrari Enzo, μια Ferrari F40, μια Ferrari 430 Scuderia, μια Ferrari 365 “Daytona” GTB/4, μια Ferrari 275 GTB/4 by Scaglietti, μια Ferrari 246 GT Dinο, μια Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, μια Ferrari 575 Superamerica (δυστυχώς τράκαρε), μια Ferrari 355 Spyder, μια McLaren F1, μια Jaguar D-Type και μερικά ακόμη.

Day 1: We fly to Athens from Heathrow and land at 17:35. We’ll then pick up our car from Budget and drive to Elefsina for overnight at the Elefsina Hotel (OK, I know it’s not ideal – but it’s an easy distance and gets us on our way.) Question: Should we stop off and have a look at the Olympic Stadium on the way?

Day 2: Set off for Olympia, on the National Road, via Patras – stopping off at Corinth Canal first. Question: Would we have time to visit Ancient Corinth or Acrocorinth? We’re going to take our time today and expect to arrive in Olympia no sooner than early evening, which is why we’re staying two nights. (It was a choice between this or Delphi – and Olympia won with each of us.)

Day 3: Visit the Olympia site – then perhaps a couple of museums. As we’re staying another night at the hotel (Olympian Asty) is there anything else in the vicinity that we could or should visit, time permitting? Or should we just relax?

Day 4: Short drive down to Gialova, staying 2 nights at Zoe’s. We’ll visit Nestor’s Palace on the way. Do you think it feasible to take a detour to Ancient Messene? We’d like to get to Gialova by 2-3pm, to make the most of our time there.

Day 5: Free in Gialova. It would be nice to visit Voidokilia Beach – but I believe you have to walk a fair way? Or is there a road? I think I see a car-park on Google Earth – but is it a dirt road and, if so, would this be OK to drive with a hire car (not 4WD)? Is there anywhere else that we really shouldn’t miss – or would we be better off just lazing around Zoe’s and the beach?

Day 6: Short drive to Kardamili. Perhaps we should detour to Ancient Messene on this day? But, again, we’d like to be at Kardamili (staying at Elie’s) mid-afternoon to make the most of our time.

Day 7: Free in the Mani. Should we drive down to Dirou Caves? Or as far as Vathia?

Day 8: If we’ve already driven the route down to Areopolis, we *might* consider the Kalamata-Sparta road. We have to get to Nafplion today, but there’s no big rush. We’d like to make a stop at Mystra. Is there anywhere else? Staying 3 nights at Perivoli Hotel.

Day 9: Mycenae and Nafplion.

Day 10: Epidaurus and (maybe) either Methoni or Poros. Is there anything else we should consider?

Day 11: Drive to Athens – we are dropping our car back at the airport and making our own way into the city. Staying 2 nights at the Herodion (I got a really good deal back in September when I booked!) – and we want to get there by 2, so that we have the rest of the day and the next day to explore – although I know that this isn’t really enough time. So, I don’t think we’ll have time to stop anywhere between Nafplion and Athens. We plan to ‘do’ the Acropolis this evening and then walk around the Plaka.

Day 12: Free in Athens. We are thinking of doing Rick Steve’s walking tour in the morning – and the Acropolis Museum in the afternoon. We’d really like to go to a restaurant with music – are the organised tours worth it?

Day 13: Fly home!
