Μετά τις τόσες διαρροές, η Subar ανακοίνωσε επίσημα το νέο Forester το οποίο θα παρουσιαστεί στην έκθεση του Los Angeles. H τέταρτη γενιά του Forester θα ξεκινήσει τις πωλήσεις του στην Ιαπωνία μέσα στον Νοέμβριο ενώ στην Ευρώπη και στην Αμερική, θα ξεκινήσουν μέσα στο 2013.
Έχει μήκος 4.595 mm (+35 mm), ύψος 1.795 mm (+15 mm) και πλάτος 1.695 mm (+20 mm). Το μεταξόνιο έχει μεγαλώσει και αυτό κατά 25 mm, και αγγίζει τα 2.640 mm.
Σχεδιαστικά η Subaru ακολουθεί την ίδια γραμμή με την προηγούμενη γενιά έχοντας νέα γρίλια, νέα φωτιστικά σώματα, μικρότερα παράθυρα στη βάση της μπροστά κολόνας, ενώ το εσωτερικό του έχει επηρεαστεί από αυτό του Impreza και του XV. Ο χώρος των αποσκευών έχει αυξηθεί κατά 55 λίτρα, αγγίζοντας πλέον τα 505 λίτρα.
Στην Ιαπωνία θα είναι διαθέσιμο με δύο boxer κινητήρες, τον 2,0-λιτρο ατμοσφαιρικό απόδοσης 146 ίππων και τον 2,0-λιτρο turbo απόδοσης 276 ίππων. Ο πρώτος συνεργάζεται με ένα 6-τάχυτο μηχανικό είτε με ένα CVT κιβώτιο, ενώ το δεύτερο αποκλειστικά με το CVT κιβώτιο.
Στην Αμερική θα είναι διαθέσιμος με 2 κινητήρες. Ο πρώτος είναι ο 2,5-λιτρος τετρακύλινδρος boxer ατμοσφαιρικός κινητήρας απόδοσης 170 ίππων με 236 Nm ροπής και συνδυάζεται είτε με ένα 6-τάχυτο μηχανικό κιβώτιο είτε με ένα CVT. Ο δεύτερος είναι ο 2,0-λιτρος τετρακύλινδρος boxer turbo κινητήρα απόδοσης 250 ίππων με 349 Nm ροπής και συνδυάζεται μόνο με ένα CVT κιβώτιο.
