H Volvo θέλοντας να δώσει ένα ακόμα πιο σπορ χαρακτήρα στο V40 R-design παρουσίασε τη Carbon Edition. Υπεύθυνη γι’αυτή είναι η Polestar, που εκτός από την οροφή από το ίδιο ελαφρύ υλικό είναι τα καπάκια των εξωτερικών καθρεφτών και τα μαρσπιέ στις πόρτες.

Η σουηδική εταιρία δεν ανακοίνωσε κατά πόσα κιλά μειώνεται το συνολικό βάρος του αυτοκινήτου, αλλά το σίγουρο είναι ότι χαμηλώνει το κέντρο βάρος του, με άμεσο θετικό αντίκτυπο στην οδηγική συμπεριφορά του.
Το V40 Carbon Edition διαθέτει επαναρυθμισμένες αναρτήσεις για πιο σπορ οδήγηση, μεγάλη πίσω αεροτομή και νέες 19άρες ζάντες αλουμινίου σε μαύρο χρώμα, ενώ στο ίδιο χρώμα είναι και οι απολήξεις της εξάτμισης. Στο εσωτερικό οι αλλαγές είναι περιορισμένες και εντοπίζονται στις κόκκινες ζώνες, καθώς και στη μίξη δέρματος και σούετ.
Μηχανικά, το αυτοκίνητο εφοδιάζεται με τον T5 βενζινοκινητήρα απόδοσης 245 ίππων ή τον D4 πετρελαιοκινητήρα με τα 190 άλογα (αύξηση 20%), με τη παραγωγή του Volvo V40 Carbon Edition να περιορίζεται στα 343 αυτοκίνητα.

Volvo V40 Carbon first to get new generation Polestar Performance Optimisation
The first model to get the new Polestar Performance Optimisation is the limited edition Volvo V40 Carbon.
The engineers of Polestar have transfered the same development philosophy as when optimising race cars to the new optimisation for the V40 Carbon. The key areas of improvement are drivability and driving control, fully utilising the latest and most advanced ever drivetrain from Volvo.
The Polestar optimisation has been designed to provide the driver with faster and more exact responses to commands. This enables a clear and predictable behaviour of the car, something that is important for all forms of active driving, no matter on a racing circuit or regular roads.
The development of the optimisation has been focused on five important performance areas of the drivetrain:
Throttle response
Gearshift speed
Gearshift precision and hold
Off-throttle response
Engine performance
A total of 343 V40 Carbon will be produced, available in Finland, France, Japan, the Netherlands and Sweden, with the T5 and D4 engine, producing 253 hp/400 Nm and 200 hp/440 Nm in peak power respectively with the Polestar optimisation*.
The increase in power and torque is concentrated to mid-range** performance, the key area of the engine for active driving, with a maximum increase of 25 hp/50 Nm for the T5 and 16 hp/40 Nm for the D4 in mid-range.
Furthermore, the V40 Carbon includes exclusive carbon details, unique 19-inch wheels, red seat belts and an extensive equipment package.
The first optimisations for other Volvo models with the new Drive-E engines will be released in the last week of June 2015, starting with the T6, T5, D5 and D4 engines, further information will be available here.
Sporty Volvo V40 Carbon enters
Now Volvo Cars is launching a limited edition of special model Volvo V40 Carbon Edition. The sporty design combined with high-tech materials.
Carbon Edition series, which is based on the Volvo V40 R-Design, has several new stylish design details that give a unique look.
– With the V40 R-Design Carbon Edition we have created a car that is both refreshing high-tech and sporty. It is a limited edition intended for customers who want to stand out, says Anders H. Gustavsson, Vice President of Special Products at Volvo Car Group.
The entire roof section and a few minor design elements that mirror housings and scuff the carbon fiber components that give the car a unique combination of high-tech innovation and sporty design.
Carbon Edition series has a low sport chassis, an accessory spoiler as accessories, unique black 19-inch wheels and black tailpipes, unique details in gloss black and parking aid front and rear with havautomatisk parking assistant. The interior has nubuckklädsel as standard and the red safety belts interior that little extra.
Another world first for the V40 Carbon Edition is that the model will be the first of a new generation Polestar Performance Optimization as standard. It introduces a new concept where the entire drive train is optimized: engine, transmission and throttle response. The engine is optimized to deliver more power and driveability in the midrange, throttle response is fine-tuned to give better engine response and changes gear faster and smarter at active driving for a better driving experience.
In Sweden, the T5 Drive-E drivetrain with a perfect balance of effective performance. Power is 253 hp and torque is 400 Nm.
