2016 Maserati Ghibli & Quattroport live in Frankfurt 1

Maserati at the Frankfurt Motor Show
15/09/2015 – Frankfurt
Updated product range with Euro 6 engines, new contents and the market launch of the “Zegna Edition” interiors for the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans.

In a year of consolidation and in the run-up to the launch of the Levante SUV scheduled for 2016, Maserati lines up its complete Model Year 16 (MY16) product range for the first time in Europe. With the MY16 range, Maserati upgrades all current engines to the Euro 6 standard and adds exclusive new contents for the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans.

Apart from the engines, the area of the sedans to benefit from the most innovation is that of the traditional customisations, thanks to the exclusive Ghibli and Quattroporte interior packages bearing the Ermenegildo Zegna signature, not to mention new mouldings and ornamental stitching on the headrests.

Other areas to benefit from new contents are driver aids and safety, with the Blind Spot Alert and Rear Cross Path system, user-friendliness with the Power Boot (motorised boot opening and closure, also featuring hands-free activation), the sound system with the debut of a Harman Kardon system and an update to the existing Bowers & Wilkins system, and the user-car interface, which now includes voice commands by means of the Siri smart personal assistant in combination with iOS devices. Further improvements in terms of acoustic insulation allow the Maserati sedans, Quattroporte and Ghibli, to meet the needs of their demanding customers more effectively.

The stand displays 3 versions of the Ghibli, the sporty executive sedan and 2 versions of the Quattroporte, the Maserati luxury limousine now in its sixth generation; the GT range is represented by the GranTurismo MC Stradale Centennial Edition and a GranCabrio Sport.

THE NEW FEATURES OF THE MODEL YEAR 16
EURO 6 ENGINES
For both Quattroporte and Ghibli gasoline engines (V6 Twin Turbo from 330 up to 410 hp and V8 Twin Turbo with 530 hp), the introduction of EURO 6 homologation brings up to 12% reduction in emissions, consumption and unchanged performance compared to previous EURO 5 engines, while the MY16 gasoline engines also benefit from the introduction of the Start & Stop system.

On the V6 Diesel engines, emissions and consumption figures, as well as performance, remain unchanged, while the Euro 6 homologation introduced AdBlue technology, with a dedicated on-board tank placed below the rear tank.

On the GranTurismo and GranCabrio ranges, where the naturally aspirated V8 engines already had emission levels in line with the prescribed standards, the upgrading to Euro 6 did not generate any changes in fuel consumption or emission figures.

“ZEGNA EDITION” INTERIOR PACKAGE
The Ermenegildo Zegna interior exclusively for Maserati combines fine leather with 100% natural fibre Zegna Mulberry silk inserts on the seats, door panels, roof lining, sunshades and ceiling light fixture. The seat covers and door panels receive an added touch of luxury with stitching in a contrasting colour. The headrest is embroidered with an eye-catching Trident, the Maserati brand emblem.

Available in three colour variants for the interiors of the Quattroporte and Ghibli, this exclusive “Zegna Edition” outfit will be the most exquisite of all Maserati customisations.

The interior offering includes a choice of colour combinations: the Ermenegildo Zegna silk, available in Anthracite colour only, can be combined with three different shades of luxurious fine leather, for three individual looks:
• Black colour fine grain leather / Anthracite Ermenegildo Zegna Silk / contrasting grey stitching on seats, dashboard, door panel and headrest
• Natural colour fine grain leather / Anthracite Ermenegildo Zegna Silk / contrasting grey stitching on seats, dashboard, door panel and headrest
• Red colour fine grain leather / Anthracite Ermenegildo Zegna Silk / contrasting grey stitching on seats, dashboard, door panel and headrest

To focus on details, in the “Zegna Edition” version the outsides of the seats are in extra fine grain leather with contrasting, light grey stitching, matched to an Anthracite central silk insert with a micro-chevron weave of vertical rolls on the central seat and backrest area. Within this area, the central roll, with leather tapes on the sides, features a special macro-chevron weave adding to its three-dimensional feel and technical look.
On the door panels, the central parts are covered with Zegna silk Jersey and embellished by a diagonal roll pattern, with ton-sur-ton ornamental stitching and alternating rib embroideries. The same fabric is used to cover the car’s roof lining and sunshades, the latter carrying grosgrain “Ermenegildo Zegna Exclusively for Maserati” brand labels on the inside. The sophisticated, luxury finish of the car interior is also expressed by the headrests, featuring an embroidered Trident emblem and contrasting stitching.
This extended, exclusive product offering for the Maserati sedans is available for all markets, on all Quattroporte and Ghibli versions.

NEW QUATTOPORTE AND GHIBLI CONTENTS
Blind Spot Alert & Rear Cross Path
Available upon request for both Quattroporte and Ghibli, the Blind Spot Alert uses visual and audible signals to alert the driver when a vehicle enters the blind spot zones; this important safety feature has been introduced to avoid collisions during lane changes. The system monitors blind spot areas using two radar-based sensors, located inside the rear bumper fascia; when a vehicle approaches from behind, the LED warning signal embedded into the side mirrors lights up while an acoustic alert can also be heard.

The Rear Cross Path function is designed to assist the driver when reversing, and is particularly useful when backing out of a parking space, when oncoming vehicles cannot be seen. By means of sensors fitted on each side of the rear bumper, a system detects any vehicles heading towards the car and alerts the driver visually and acoustically. The system is active at speeds from a minimum of 3 km/h to a maximum of about 16 km/h, typical of parking areas, and provides a useful checking function.
Power Boot Lid with Hands-Free Mode
With the introduction of the Power Boot lid, included in the Quattroporte GTS and available upon request for the other versions of both Quattroporte and Ghibli, the light aluminium boot lid can now open or close on its own. Thanks to electric actuators and a motor-operated locking device, the system allows automatic control of the boot lid, with a selection of activation options to suit different situations: from inside the car, using the car remote, using the buttons on the boot lid or in Hands-Free mode.
With Hands-Free mode, the boot can be opened or closed by simply moving a foot underneath the rear bumper; a special sensor picks up the movement and opens or closes the boot. In this case and for safety reasons, the lid will only open or close if the “Passive Entry” system acknowledges the presence of the key.

Siri Smart Personal Assistant
Thanks to the Apple chip integrated in the MTC, in MY16 vehicles a useful on-board feature that exploits iOS functionality has been introduced: the Siri “smart” personal assistant, already incorporated in Apple devices. Based on Bluetooth technology, Siri allows users of Quattroporte and Ghibli (both standard) to perform tasks on iOS connected devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) and make requests using voice commands. The advantage is that Siri uses natural language to understand commands. For safety reasons, when the car is on the move Siri deactivates all applications which use visual content or require user interaction, replying to commands given or questions asked with voice feedback only.

Audio
The audio system has been completely renewed with MY16 and brings on board the new Harman Kardon system as a standard feature on all Quattroporte versions and upon request on Ghibli; it gives outstanding power and sound quality, based around 10 speakers and a 900W 12-channel amplifier. The door woofers and the subwoofer installed underneath the rear shelf are also of new design for a more powerful sound.

The optional Bowers & Wilkins Premium Surround audio system is as good as it gets in production car hi-fi systems, with the new Clari-Fi function from MY16.

The Clari-Fi function is an advanced solution designed for digital music and capable of restoring the artistic details lost in digitally-compressed songs. Clari–Fi scans all types of compressed audio files for lost music details, supporting MP3, AAC, Satellite Radio, Playback and Streaming Music Services and intelligently corrects waveform deficiencies based on existing music information and audio source quality. By recapturing the missing highs and lows, restoring the vocals to their natural tone, returning to a true stereo sound and removing unwanted distortions and artifacts, these features exclusive for the Bowers & Wilkins Premium Surround audio system set a new benchmark in automotive audio.

Other features
Interior: while the standard equipment is sumptuous, Maserati also provides an exceptional degree of personalisation with a vast range of materials for the client to choose from, including wood, carbon fibre, leather, Alcantara, as well as coloured stitching in contrast with the leather colour, for areas such as the upper dashboard, doors and seats and, with the introduction of MY16, also headrest contrast stitching with embroidered Trident upon request. A lacquered Black Piano trim – already available for the MY16 Quattroporte – is also available for MY16 Ghibli for areas such as the central tunnel cover or the door inserts.

PRODUCT RANGE
Quattroporte
The stand features the most powerful Maserati currently on the market: the GTS version of the Quattroporte limousine with the “Zegna Edition” package, featuring interiors in red leather combined with Anthracite colour Ermenegildo Zegna silk. The finishing touches are provided by the contrasting grey stitching on the seats, dashboard, door panels and headrest (with embroidered Trident) and glossy Black Piano inserts.

Driven by the powerful 530 horsepower V8 Twin Turbo gasoline engine with rear-wheel drive, capable of a peak torque of 710 Nm, the car has a top speed of 307 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.7 seconds. The introduction of the Start&Stop device has reduced the fuel consumption and emissions of the Quattroporte GTS MY16 by up to 12% in the urban cycle compared to the previous versions; in the mixed cycle the values are 10.7 l/100 km and 250 g/km of CO2. In terms of styling, apart from the GTS badge at the rear, the differences compared to the other Quattroporte versions are the front spoiler, the side miniskirts and the lower band of the rear bumper coloured to match the body, while the radiator grille has a glossy black surround. The front Trident emblem in the middle of the grille and the iconic “Saetta” logo on the rear pillar both include red striping. The standard wheels are 20” in size and are of Urano Diamond design; they come in anthracite grey colour, with external diamond smoothing treatment and colour-matched hub covers.

The slimline spokes allow a good view of the brake callipers with their stylish anodised red finish. The standard interiors offer lavish use of fine-grain leather (with optional contrast stitching) and Black Piano lacquered trim; a compact GTS badge added to the inside of the dashboard central clock with red pointers, the floor mat on the driver’s side with a leather insert, and embroidered GTS logo are further prestigious embellishments of the interiors, and provide an elegant, sporty feel.

Alongside the immensely powerful Quattroporte GTS is the exclusive Quattroporte Diesel, featuring an exterior in tri-coated pearl Bianco Alpi colour and an interior in fine-grain black leather, contrasting grey stitching and glossy carbon inserts. With a 275 horsepower V6 engine with Start&Stop and Euro 6 type-approval, the Diesel engine returns figures of 6.2 l/100 km and 163 g/km of CO2 in the mixed cycle. With a top speed of 250 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and a total range of more than 1,000 km between fuelling stops, the Diesel version of the Quattroporte provides unrivalled comfort on long journeys and the driving pleasure typical of every Maserati.

What’s more, the cars on show have been equipped with a variety of accessories from the Maserati Genuine Accessories line, such as the elegant, exclusive luggage set designed for the boot of the Quattroporte: comprising six pieces (two trolley cases and two beauty cases of different sizes, a suitcase and a hold-all), with optional expansion to eight (with garment bag and double shoe-bag), the entire set is in luxurious, extra-soft leather, trimmed with contrasting braids that bring distinction to the front of every item in the set.

The Maserati Quattroporte range is completed by the gasoline all-wheel drive “S Q4” and rear-wheel drive “S”, both powered by the 410 horsepower Twin Turbo V6 engine and equipped with the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission; top speeds, at the top of the class for both versions, are 283 and 285 km/h respectively, with 0-100 km/h taking 4.9 seconds for the “S Q4” and 5.1 for the rear-wheel drive “S” version. The 410 horsepower engines of the “S” and “S Q4” versions also benefit from the Start&Stop system and an overall reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of up to 12% in the urban cycle, as well as Euro 6 type-approval. The all-wheel drive “S Q4” and rear-wheel drive “S” record values of 9.7 l/100 km with 226 g/km of CO2 and 9.6 l/100 km with 223 g/km of CO2 respectively in the mixed cycle.

The Quattroporte, the Maserati limousine with its ample external dimensions, features a combination of taut and muscular lines with timeless proportions which give it a natural elegance all of its own. This large overall size is reflected in an equally high level of on-board comfort, due to the space available to the occupants, especially in the rear seats. The interior of the Quattroporte unites refined, clean styling with cutting-edge technology and a stylish, modern sporty character.

Ghibli
There are two versions of this car on the Maserati stand, equipped with different packages but both with the range’s most powerful gasoline engine; they are two all-wheel drive Ghibli “S Q4” cars, fitted with the 410 horsepower V6 Twin Turbo gasoline engine. One has the “Zegna Edition” interior package, in the colour variant with fine-grain black leather combined with the Anthracite colour Ermenegildo Zegna silk and contrasting grey stitching on the seats, dashboard, door panels and headrest with embroidered Trident. The other Ghibli “S Q4” has interiors in fine-grain red leather throughout and black contrast stitching, matching the Black Piano wood inserts on the central tunnel and door panels; the roof liner is in pale grey Alcantara.

In the “S Q4” version, the engine’s architecture provides the Ghibli with sports car performance, reaching a speed of 284 km/h and taking just 4.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 –100 km/h, all combined with the versatility to deal with all kinds of road surfaces, thanks to the all-wheel drive. Fuel consumption and emissions figures for the mixed cycle are 9.7 l/100 km and 226 g/km of CO2.

The ultimate in comfort, performance and fuel saving on the stand is the Ghibli Diesel, fitted out for the occasion with exterior in tri-coated pearl Bianco Alpi and interiors in fine-grain tan leather with grey Alcantara roof liner; with 275 horsepower V6 Turbo engine, complete with Start&Stop and Euro 6 type-approval, it is capable of a top speed of 250 km/h, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, and delivers low fuel consumption and emissions of 5.9 l/100 km and 158 g/km respectively, in the mixed cycle.

Additionally, the cars on show are equipped with a variety of accessories from the Maserati Genuine Accessories line, such as a handy umbrella, a reversible boot mat with one side carpet and one side waterproof, through to the essential child car seat with ISOFIX connections, intended to ensure the safety of the smallest passengers and specially designed for the car’s interior.

The Ghibli range is completed by gasoline versions, with 330 horsepower V6 Twin Turbo engine, and the 410 horsepower “S” version, both rear-wheel drive and with 8-speed automatic transmission. Both the 410 horsepower engine of the “S” version and the 330 horsepower “Ghibli” unit also benefit from the Start&Stop system and an overall reduction in fuel consumption and emissions of up to 12% in the urban cycle, as well as Euro 6 type-approval. The values are 9.6 l/100 km with 223 g/km of CO2 and 8.9 l/100 km with 207 g/km of CO2 respectively in the mixed cycle.

The Ghibli, an executive sedan with a sporty soul which marked Maserati’s entry into the E segment of the market, is a genuine combination of breath-taking design, outstanding handling, amazing performance and safety confirmed by EURO NCAP 5-star rating; although accessibly priced, it still offers thrilling experiences for all five senses. While keeping faith with Maserati’s elegant stylist language and classical design, the Ghibli has an original, sporty personality thanks to its long wheelbase, a total length of 4.97 metres, and broad treads, it is certainly one of the sportiest-looking, most elegant cars in its class and it offers comfort at the top of its segment.

GranTurismo
The sports car range is emblematically represented on the stand by the GranTurismo MC Stradale Centennial Edition, here in the sophisticated Grigio Pietra external colour, combined with a black interior with red trims and contrasting light stitching to match the exterior.

The Centennial Edition, created to celebrate Maserati’s one hundredth birthday, features three tri-coated colours, special 20” wheels and hub covers that incorporate the Centennial medallion logo. The leather upholstered seats boast a particularly aggressive look with a contrasting decorative insert based on the three colours (red, white or blue) of the seat profiles. The same motif also extends to the headrests and surrounds the embroidered Trident logo.

The engine mounted in the GranTurismo MC Stradale is the 4.7 litre 460 horsepower naturally aspirated gasoline 90° V8 with rear-wheel drive with gearbox coupled to the rear differential, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds; the top speed is 303 km/h and the car has Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.

The car on show also displays the exquisite luggage set designed for the boot of the GranTurismo. The set comprises six pieces, all in the same leather as the interior with contrasting trims; with two hold-alls, two trolley cases, two beauty cases and an additional laptop case on request, the boot’s load capacity of 260 litres is used to the full.
Apart from the MC Stradale, the sports car range includes the GranTurismo, with 4.2 litre, 405 horsepower naturally aspirated V8 gasoline engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, and the GranTurismo Sport, powered by the same 4.7 litre 460 horsepower naturally aspirated V8 gasoline unit as the MC Stradale, available with MC Auto-Shift automatic transmission or MC Shift robotic gearbox, all with rear-wheel drive.

From MY16, all the engines in the GranTurismo range are Euro 6-compliant, while the consumption and emissions figures remain the same.

The Maserati GranTurismo combines exceptional performance with pure Italian design by Pininfarina; created as the ne plus ultra of the GT sector, it features attractive sinuous forms and a stylistic concept which harks back to the elegant 1947 Maserati A6 1500GT, the car that gave birth to the GT segment. Its long front, muscular rear and defined lines suggest a forceful forward movement – even at a standstill. Particular attention has been paid to precise adjustments in its shapes to perfect aerodynamics. With a very roomy interior designed to provide spacious accommodation for up to four adults, it offers unrivalled comfort for daily trips and long journeys alike and also keeps driver effort amazingly low even as its performance is pushed to its impressive limits. The elegant and sumptuous hand-crafted interior blends luxury and space with performance in perfect harmony, highlighting the GranTurismo’s sporting character without sacrificing usability. Maserati also offers an unrivalled customisation programme, enabling every customer to “create” their own GranTurismo.

GranCabrio
The star of the Maserati convertibles on display on the Frankfurt stand is the GranCabrio Sport with Blu Sofisticato exterior and interior in Bianco Pregiato.

Under the bonnet is the powerful 4.7 litre Euro 6 naturally aspirated gasoline 90° V8 engine with automatic 6-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive; its 460 horsepower rating guarantees exciting performance figures: 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and top speed of 285 km/h.
Accessories are also included on this model: a special four-piece luggage set comprising two trolley cases and two beauty cases, “his” and “hers”, designed for typically different uses.

The Maserati convertible range is completed by the 450 horsepower GranCabrio and the 460 horsepower GranCabrio MC, both with 4.7 litres naturally aspirated gasoline 90° V8 Euro 6 engine, rear-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Maserati GranCabrio is a sporty convertible designed for GT use, accommodating four adults in comfort and with a distinctive style and strong personality. The unmistakable lines designed by Pininfarina, which have brought a special beauty to generations of Maserati cars, are reflected in the timeless tradition of the GranCabrio, conceived to prioritise unbeatable comfort even on long journeys, driving pleasure and elegance.

Its streamlined forms, combined with impeccable aerodynamics, are the outcome of a uniquely painstaking attention to the tiniest detail, while the memorable outline pays homage to the glory of the brand’s one hundred year history, expressing the quintessence of the Maserati genes.

The soft-top of the GranCabrio range, available in eight different colours, consists of three layers of coated canvas on a steel and aluminium frame, guaranteeing quiet, draught-free driving.

The GranCabrio range offers on-road luxury with its spacious interior with four comfortable individual seats in leather, Poltrona Frau Leather and drilled Alcantara depending on the variant, perfect ergonomics and easy-to-use interfaces.

MOTOR SPORTS
There are still two rounds to go before the end of the sixth season of the Maserati Trofeo World Series. After two events in Europe (Paul Ricard in France and Spielberg in Austria) and two in the United States (Road America and Virginia International Raceway), the next stages will be held at the Suzuka circuit (Japan) on 25 October and in Abu Dhabi (Arab Emirates) on 12 December, where the championship’s final event will take place for the third year in succession.

The title race has been brought to life by the duel between Italian Riccardo Ragazzi and Frenchman Romain Monti, the latter currently the favourite due to the lead he gained at the August round in Virginia, where a win and a second place strengthened his position at the top of the table, placing him 46 points ahead of the Italian (121 over 75).

In spite of this points gap, the race is still very much open; under the race regulations, there are still 168 minutes of competition before the end of the season (two races in each of the remaining rounds), during which anything can happen. To make the championship even better balanced and more exciting, it features rules like the reversal of the positions of the top 10 drivers in the first race to create the starting grid for race 2. The extra ballast also plays its part, with extra weight for the first three in each race (50 kg for the winner, 30 for second place and 10 for third).

There are thrills and excitement on the track from the first sessions, thanks also to the new system including the Super Pole mechanism (in which the ten fastest in practice and two lucky losers from qualification gain entry), with drivers competing against each other and the clock.

The drivers who have taken part in the championship so far – with an average of at least 20 Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo cars lined up on each round – include big-name guests such as Derek Hill, son of 1961 Formula 1 world champion Phil, and Freddie Hunt, whose father James won the world title in 1976.

MASTER MASERATI DRIVING COURSES
The Master Maserati programme offers a complete range of top-level, highly exclusive driving experiences, characterised by the unmistakably Italian style and elegance typical of all Maserati activities.
At the highly technical Varano de’ Melegari circuit, near Parma, in Italy, a fleet of 15 cars, all part of the current Maserati production range and coordinated by the former Formula 1 driver Andrea de Adamich, each equipped with an audio-video recording system, will enable course participants to learn various driving techniques and emergency manoeuvres and acquire the skills needed to drive their cars like professionals.

The driving experiences range from the brand new entry level “Master Warm Up”, a first taster teaching drivers to enjoy the thrills of the Maserati world in complete safety, on to the classic “Master GT” one or two days’ course, by way of the more recently designed “Master High Performance” course for more experienced drivers, through to the “Master Italian Lifestyle Experience”, encompassing all the most iconic, captivating elements of Italian lifestyle: luxury, art, fashion, and most significantly, racing performance.

During 2015, the Master Maserati driving courses left their historic base at Varano for the first time to take on a legendary track: the 5.8 km of the Paul Ricard circuit (France), which hosted the courses on 23 and 24 April of this year. Inspired by the great success of this event, the Master Maserati “worldwide” driving courses were held in June in Shanghai, where the “Master GT 1 China” event attracted no fewer than 32 participants. Work is already well under way on additional events to be held in 2016, when the Master Maserati “worldwide” driving courses will be reaching America.
