Το Polo BlueGT “προσφέρει τις καλύτερες επιδόσεις με τη μέγιστη δυνατή οικονομία καυσίμου”.

  10. Polo Comfortline and Polo Highline allow for sporty customisation of the new R-Line programme.

Wolfsburg/Geneva, March 2014. Volkswagen presented the latest iteration of the Polo in January. The new EU-6 engines as well as the new infotainment and assistance systems of the best-seller, in particular, have now taken huge strides forward in terms of technology. Background: The fuel consumption values were lowered by up to 21 per cent; the infotainment and assistance systems introduce the technology usually preserved for cars much larger than those of the Polo segment. Just one month after the debut of the classic “Trendline,” “Comfortline” and “Highline” Polo equipment versions, now come – as world premieres at the Geneva Motor Show – the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo models. Moreover, Volkswagen is presenting the new R-Line exterior and interior packages for the Polo. The models at a glance:

Polo BlueMotion. Up to now, the Polo BlueMotion – one of the most efficient five-seat passenger cars in the world – was only available as a turbodiesel. Later this year, this trendsetter in terms of fuel-efficiency will also launch as a Polo TSI BlueMotion (66 kW / 90 PS) with a turbocharged petrol engine; this is the first time that Volkswagen has used this new three-cylinder engine. With a combined fuel consumption of 4.1 l/100 km, the Polo TSI BlueMotion sets a new benchmark for petrol cars in its class. The Polo TDI BlueMotion sets a record in the market for five-seat diesel cars: The three-cylinder engine (55 kW / 75 PS) consumes only 3.1 l/100 km.

Polo BlueGT. Thanks to the cylinder shut-off (ACT or active cylinder management) used exclusively for this engine, it offers maximum dynamic performance together with maximum fuel efficiency. And this performance has been boosted as well, since the new version of the Polo BlueGT now develops a maximum output of 110 kW / 150 PS instead of the previous 103 kW / 140 PS.

CrossPolo. This version addresses all those customers who appreciate an individual off-road appearance while maintaining consistent on-road qualities. The CrossPolo always has four doors. New colours, new seat materials, a new type of wheel and new smoked rear lights characterise the new 2014 model.

Polo R-Line packages. The R-Line programme delivers more dynamism. It is available in the Polo Comfortline and Polo Highline equipment versions. The R-Line features that are available as exterior and interior packages – for example bumpers, sports seats and steering wheels – were tuned for the latest Polo.

New levels of fuel-efficiency, comfort and safety. As indicated above, all new Polo cars – including the Polo TSI BlueMotion, Polo TDI BlueMotion, Polo BlueGT and CrossPolo models – offer a range of driving, convenience and safety technologies which is unique in this class: A new electro-mechanical servo steering system improves steering properties. Volkswagen will be at the starting line with the newly developed Sport Select suspension, which uses electronically controlled dampers so that drivers can choose between two tuning characteristics at the push of a button (not available on the Polo BlueMotion or CrossPolo). In tandem with this, assistance systems have been introduced into the Polo programme such as the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System (automatically initiates braking after a collision) and the optional Driver Alert System, Front Assist ambient traffic monitoring system with City Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). The view towards the rear can now be sharpened by the optional Rear Assist rear view camera as well. Also new are the controls for the climate control system.

Progressive infotainment world. The infotainment line-up was also reconfigured. It consists of three radio/CD systems (“Composition Touch,” “Composition Colour,” “Composition Media”) and a radio/CD navigation system (“Discover Media”). Depending on the version, the devices offer functions such as Bluetooth audio streaming (with a smart phone, including cover display and touchscreen control), a proximity sensor (other menu details are shown when hand approaches the screen), two-finger map zooming in navigation mode (like on a smart phone) and interfacing of the mobile phone to the vehicle’s exterior antenna by inductive coupling. All systems can be equipped with digital radio reception (DAB+). In addition, special smart phone apps can be accessed on the touchscreen via MirrorLink™.

Details of the new Polo BlueMotion as TSI and TDI

World premiere of the 1.0 TSI with 95 PS. For the first time, there is an independent Volkswagen BlueMotion model with a petrol engine: the new Polo TSI BlueMotion. The drive – a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol direct-injection engine – is a completely newly developed engine that will make its debut later this year. The three-cylinder engine outputs a powerful 70 kW / 95 PS. With a fuel consumption of 4.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 94 g/km, the Polo TSI BlueMotion sets new top values in the segment of five-seaters with petrol engines.

New TDI BlueMotion The Polo TDI BlueMotion also delivers top values. Its 55 kW / 75 PS turbodiesel direct-injection engine consumes only 3.1 l/100 km (82 g/km CO2), making this Polo the most fuel-efficient five-seat diesel car in the world. Compared to its already extremely efficient predecessor that had a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, the fuel efficiency of the Polo has once more been increased by 0.2 l/100 km. The theoretical range of the Polo TDI BlueMotion with a 45-litre fuel tank and five-speed manual gearbox is 1,400 kilometres – a non-stop drive from Flensburg near Denmark to Venice in Italy!

Low air drag and rolling resistance. Air drag is reduced in the BlueMotion versions by the modified underbody, burnished radiator grille insert and the rear and front spoilers that have been perfected in terms of aerodynamics reduce the. Tyres optimised for low rolling resistance also contribute to the ground-breaking fuel-consumption values. The “Clearwater Blue Metallic” paint, exclusively mixed for these models, is one of the features that emphasises the sustainable talents of the Polo TSI BlueMotion and TDI BlueMotion. The 15-inch “Buenos Aires” alloy wheel is also exclusively reserved for the two Polo BlueMotion models. Individual seat covers and chrome adornments as well as leather-covered steering wheel, gear lever and parking brake lever add to a markedly high-class ambience in the interior of the BlueMotion.

The Polo BlueGT in detail

10 PS more with the same fuel economy. The Polo BlueGT offers a fascinating alliance of sportiness and fuel efficiency. As of now, its 1.4 litre TSI produces 110 kW / 150 PS (previously: 103 kW / 140 PS). Its maximum torque is 250 Nm and is available from just 1,500 rpm. This power reaches the front wheels via a 6-speed gearbox or optional 7-speed gearbox. Driving through the manual gearbox, the Polo BlueGT has a combined fuel consumption figure of 4.8 l/100 km (110 g/km CO2). With the 7-speed DSG, consumption is reduced further to 4.7 l/100 km (108 g/km CO2). This fuel efficiency contrasts with a 10 km/h boost in top speed, which is now 220 km/h.

Two of four deactivated. The outstanding technical feature of the BlueGT engine is the active cylinder management, or ACT. With this cylinder shut-off, Volkswagen deploys a technology that was previously only used in large eight- or twelve-cylinder engines. The temporary deactivation of the second and third cylinders under low and medium load conditions reduces the consumption in the EU driving cycle by 0.4 l/100 km. Fuel savings amount to as much as 1.0 l/100 km when driving at constant speed.

Body is 15 mm lower. The Polo BlueGT has its own distinctive exterior as well as interior features. From the outside, the BlueGT includes ex-factory newly designed and smoked tail lights, 17-inch aluminium wheels, a roof spoiler, modified bumper (at the rear with diffuser), side sills and a body that has been lowered by 15 mm. The interior has been upgraded by details such as the expanded content of the multifunction display (ACT indication), a cruise control system and front sport seats.

The new CrossPolo in detail

Designed for the urban environment. The upgraded CrossPolo achieves an independent off-road character by such features as an underbody protection panel on the front and rear bumpers, offset in silver, as well as black covers on the wheel arches, sills and doors. The door mirror housings are painted in silver, regardless of the car colour, and the matching silver anodised roof rails, make for an extra portion of sportiness. In addition, two new metallic colours (“Honey Orange” and “Titanium Beige”) as well as new 17-inch “Canyon” style alloy wheels complete the range of equipment features in the latest CrossPolo model. Classy: the new design of the smoked rear lights.

All included. In addition, exclusive fabrics, designed especially for this Polo, enhance the value of the CrossPolo, which is equipped with sport seats, H7 headlights (optionally: bi-xenon) and fog lights as standard. The newly designed steering wheel as well as gear and parking brake lever are trimmed in leather; contrasting colour seams enhance the high-value interior ambience that, like the new instrument cluster, has a two-colour scheme with a “tubes” look and applications in matt chrome. The CrossPolo can be ordered with three petrol and three diesel engines, which cover a power range from 55 kW / 75 PS to 81 kW / 110 PS. In Germany, two petrol engines and two diesels are offered, because the power range there starts at 66 kW / 90 PS; this autumn another TSI will follow as well. All engines are equipped with stop-start system and battery regeneration mode, and they all conform to the EU-6 emission standard.

Polo R-Line packages in detail

Strong presence. Volkswagen R GmbH has conceived for the Polo Comfortline and Polo Highline a new exterior and interior package as part of the R-Line programme. The 16-inch “Salvador” alloy wheels are also new in the programme; so there are a total of five R-Line alloy wheels for the Polo (two 16-inch and three 17-inch wheels).

R-Line exterior. As outlined above, the R-Line packages have been newly put together. Consider the exterior: Here, designers have developed a new, high-gloss radiator grille with R-Line logo for the Polo; the bottom air inlet screen, which is, like the radiator grille, painted in a high-gloss black, was also redesigned. The “Salvador” alloy wheel is also a new feature that completes the exterior package. More details of the exterior package include bumpers in R-Line design (with integrated fog lights in the front, including cornering lights), wider side sills, an R-Line diffuser in the rear, a customised roof spoiler and chrome-plated tailpipe trims (if visible, depending on the engine).

R-Line interior. The interior has been modified even more substantially. Volkswagen R GmbH has newly created the sport seats in R-Line cover in the “Race/San Remo” design (optionally “Leather/Alcantara”) with R-Line logo, newly designed multifunction sport steering wheel, “small leather package” (gear lever and parking brake lever) and floor mats. Contrasting seams in “Crystal Grey” are used with all these features. The black roofliner, black panels and frames around centre console and air nozzles, R-Line door sill plates and stainless-steel pedal caps have been retained from the previous model.
