Ένα δικαστήριο στις Η.Π.Α έκρινε πως η Toyota δεν είναι ένοχος για ένα ατύχημα που συνέβη το 2009, με μια 66-χρονη γυναίκα, την Noriko Uno να χάνει τη ζωή της, όταν το Camry της (μοντέλο του 2006) χτυπήθηκε από ένα άλλο αυτοκίνητο και στη συνέχεια έπεσε πάνω σε ένα δέντρο. Το δικαστήριο έκρινε ένοχο τον οδηγό του αυτοκινήτου που έπεσε πάνω στο Camry της Uno. Ο οδηγός θα πρέπει να πληρώσει 10.000.000 δολάρια στον σύζυγο και στον γιό της Uno ως αποζημίωση, αλλά ο δικηγόρος του δήλωσε πως θα προσφύγει κατά της απόφασης αυτής. Η απόφαση του δικαστηρίου αυτή χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως δεδικασμένο σε ακόμη 85 παρόμοιες περιπτώσεις που είχε η Toyota στη πολιτεία της Καλιφόρνια.
Στις σχετικές ειδήσεις η Toyota ανακοίνωσε πως ανακαλεί 10.000 Camry 2013-2014, Avalon 2013-2014 και Corolla 2014, έτσι ώστε να αλλάξει τον διακόπτη των υαλοκαθαριστήρων, ο οποίος ίσως είναι ελαττωματικός και ενδεχομένως να δημιουργηθεί βραχυκύκλωμα.

Toyota Wins Unintended Acceleration Bellwether Trial
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 10, 2013 — Toyota today won an unintended acceleration case in Superior Court in Los Angeles, as a jury in the first bellwether trial in the Judicial Council Coordinated Proceeding (JCCP) rejected claims that a 2006 Camry involved in a fatal accident in 2009 was defective because it lacked a brake override system.
After deliberating for approximately four and a half days, a jury reached a defense verdict in favor of Toyota in a case brought by the family of Noriko Uno, who claimed that her accident would have been averted if her vehicle had been outfitted with brake override. The Uno case was selected as a bellwether by the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the JCCP.
Toyota said in a statement: “We sympathize with anyone in an accident involving one of our vehicles as well as the family and friends of Noriko Uno.
“Regarding the verdict, we are gratified that the jury concluded the design of the 2006 Camry did not contribute to this unfortunate accident, affirming the same conclusion we reached after more than three years of careful investigation – that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle at issue in this case. As an important bellwether in these consolidated state proceedings, we believe this verdict sets a significant benchmark by helping further confirm that Toyota vehicles are safe with or without brake override.”

Toyota Announces Voluntary Recall to Replace Wiper Switches
TORRANCE, CA October 10, 2013 – Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. today announced that it will conduct a non-compliance recall involving approximately 10,000 Model Year 2013 – 2014 Camry, Camry Hybrid, 2013MY Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and 2014MY Corolla vehicles to replace the wiper switch.
During manufacture of the wiper switch assembly in the involved vehicles, certain contacts on the switch terminal could have been manufactured incorrectly. This could lead to a potential short if the wiper is moved from OFF to the MIST setting. A short can cause the windshield wipers to become inoperative.
Owners of the involved vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota dealer for replacement of the wiper switch.
