Lancia at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt

  • New Thema: alternative class
  • New Voyager: the art of travelling together
  • New Flavia Cabrio: four seats, four seasons
  • New Ypsilon: synthesis of elegance and innovation
  • New Delta: the compact flagship according to Lancia

Thema, Voyager and Flavia Cabrio. These are the first three models emerging from the alliance between the new Lancia and the new Chrysler “parade” down the prestigious catwalk of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. They are all unique products that perfectly express the values shared by Lancia and Chrysler, which by now have become a single identity: from elegance and technological innovation to a century-old history and desire to excel in the future. The public will be able to also admire the Musa and Delta models completing the world’s fullest premium range, from segment B to that of the Large MPVs, at the stand set up in Frankfurt.

It is precisely the “dual spirit” theme inborn in the union between Lancia and Chrysler that is the concept around which the exhibition area is set up, breathing life into a sinuous motion of expressive shapes and languages. This stimulating stand lets the public discover the new automotive dynasty that best contains two industrial cultures: the exuberant style, flair for delivering a “stress-free experience” and functionality all associated with the Chrysler brand, coupled with the taste, innovation and love of manufacturing that have always distinguished Lancia.

All new Lancia cars meet the desires of a refined customer who is reclaiming the pleasure of “possessing”, but without flaunting financial standing; a customer capable of embracing diametrically opposed ideas such as tradition and innovation, rational thought and emotion, individualism and social awareness It is a world of exclusiveness, no longer shackled to the idea of possessing precious, expensive objects, but to subjective pleasure and gratification. For this customer, the quality of the new Lancia takes a further step forward, offering a new experience on board thanks to the use of prestige materials, meticulous attention to craftsmanship in every detail and technological innovation which is always at the service of driver and passengers.

The undisputed star of the stand is the Lancia Thema, the first global flagship that combines the best of two worlds to become the paradigm of the new Lancia. Like the original Thema launched in 1984, the new top-range saloon takes on the toughest, but also the most prestigious, segment, striving to offer a genuine alternative.

The goal is not easy to attain if we consider that the market target addressed is made up of more demanding customers who are used to having the best. Nevertheless, there is a precise tendency to want a more personal exclusivity in this particular bracket. The demand for a technology not as cold than what has been offered up until today, a demand for greater warmth, more craftsmanship, a stronger temperament, is emerging insistent. And it is here where the Lancia Thema fits in. This global flagship combines the classically American features of size, comfort and presence on the road with the “Made in Italy” craftsmanship, the cocooning silence of the large Lancias and the quality of materials and fabrics that elegantly “clothe” the most advanced technology serving comfort and safety.

They are precisely these peculiarities that make the new saloon boasting Lancia prestige something special, a product that when used every day turns the concept of a simple “means of transport” into an exhilerating travelling experience. That is because a “great trip” is not just leaving and arriving, but a continuous string of thrills and discoveries during all the time that passes.

On sale from October in all European dealerships, the Lancia Thema is available in three trim levels – Gold, Platinum and Executive – and with three engines: the 286 HP 3.6L V6 petrol engine with 8-speed automatic gearbox and the 190 HP or 239 HP 3.0L V6 diesel engines, both with 5-speed automatic gearbox.

The second new feather of the new Lancia range is the new Voyager, a Chrysler invention that radically changed motoring language, adding a new word and creating a new world: MPV, the art of travelling. A true icon of the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) category with 27 years on the road and more than thirteen million units sold in 120 countries around the world, today the American model “marries” Italian style, metamorphosing into an exclusive top-range MPV in which Chrysler’s journey expertise joins forces with that of Lancia in driving satisfaction, on-board comfort, reduced passenger compartment noise, the art of attention to detail and Italian design.

The result is the best Voyager ever which picks up where the Lancia Phedra left off to write another page in the history of this category. One of the new cars showcased on the stand, with Gold trim level, features a Euro 5 163 HP Diesel 2.8 engine with exterior in the shade of Dark Charcoal,  while the interior is distinguished by fine black leather upholstery, an entertainment system with DVD players mounted on the second and third rows, navigation system, Keyless entry and rear back-up camera.

On sale from October in all European dealerships, the Lancia Voyager will be available in the Gold trim level and with two engines: the 287 HP 3.6L V6 petrol with automatic 6-speed gearbox and the 163 HP 2.8L V6 diesel with 6 speeds.

The fusion of ideas and skills between Chrysler and Lancia also enables exciting new expressions of automotive art to emerge incredibly quickly. One clear demonstration is the captivating Lancia Flavia Cabrio on display in Frankfurt, the quintessence of open-air driving pleasure with 4 genuine seats, marked by white three-layer bodywork and interiors in fine leather. Fitted with a 175 HP 2.4 litre petrol engine and 6-speed automatic gearbox, the car offers a wealth of all inclusive equipment as standard.

There is also room for the new “mini flagship”, the Lancia Ypsilon, which is displayed in Frankfurt with three new Ypsilon models – a 69 HP Gold 1.2 and two versions (Gold and Platinum) equipped with the innovative 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir – a small but significant champion of the range in terms of colours, optionals available and accessories.

Offered for the first time with five doors to welcome lovers of charm, technological excellence and the unique style of Lancia with enhanced comfort, it is a true “concentrate” of elegance, technology and power in just 3.8 metres. It has been on the major European markets since June, and starting in September will be sold under the Chrysler brand in Great Britain and Ireland.

Twenty-five years and more than a million and a half cars on the road later, the new Lancia “mini flagship” confirms the basic personality of previous versions, comprising a distinctive character that seduces with its good looks and elegance, boosted by cutting-edge technology applied to engines and comfort which not only delivers reduced emissions and consumption – thanks to technologies such as TwinAir, MultiJet II and Start&Stop – but also offers unparalleled on-board wellbeing through features unique in this category, including the brand new “Blue&Me–TomTomLIVE” and “Smart fuel” system”, in addition to the innovative Magic Parking, Xenon headlights and LED tail lights.

The launch of the new Lancia continues with the development of iconic models. This is evident in the new Delta, a milestone Lancia model which heralded a new concept, bringing the attributes of a flagship to segment C. Its 4.5 metres pack in all the luxury and interior space of a higher category: the seats recline into chaise-longues, the upholstery reveals quality textures and passengers are cocooned by an almost magical comfort and silence on every journey. Recently updated with the 2011 range, today the new version fitted out with the 120 HP EURO 5 bi-fuel 1.4 Turbo Jet engine is making its debut. It will be available on all European markets in three different trim levels (Steel, Silver and Gold).

Completing the exhibit in Frankfort is the Musa, which expresses the best Made in Italy craftsmanship capable of combining the comfort, room and class of a limousine with the agility and compactness of a city car. The model on display is a 95 HP Platinum 1.4 16v (Euro5) with Start&Stop supplied standard, distinguished by a two-tone body (Angelico White/Masaccio Black).

Finally,  brochures and certain dedicated publications at the stand will be introducing visitors to the products of FGA Capital, a financial company (joint venture of Fiat Group Automobiles and Crédit Agricole) specialised in the automotive segment. The company is operating in all the major European markets, and in Germany with FGA Bank, with a sole mission: support the sales of all the brand vehicles brand vehicles by offering innovative financial products with high added value services targeted at the dealership network, private customers and companies.

New Thema: alternative class

The new Lancia Thema marks a new chapter in the brand’s legendary history. The first global flagship that combines the best of two worlds, the rear-drive vehicle was created based on the new Chrysler 300 and is ready, like the first Thema back in 1984, to take on the toughest, but also the most prestigious segment, striving to offer, at long last, a genuine alternative.

The goal is not easy to attain if we consider that the target addressed is made up of more demanding customers of the market who are used to having the best. Nevertheless, there is a precise tendency to want a more personal and refined exclusivity in this particular bracket. The demand for a technology not as cold than what has been offered up until today, a demand for greater warmth, more craftsmanship, a stronger temperament, is emerging insistent.

With a heritage of values in its DNA, Lancia appears to be favoured over others for its ability to interpret this new world of exclusiveness and to meet the needs of a customer more attentive to technology, who demands not only a substantial product, but also a style with strong personality. And this is where the Lancia Thema steps in. This global flagship combines size, comfort and impressive road presence, typically American characteristics, with the luxury of Frau® leather interiors, the cocooning silence of large Lancias and the attention to detail that all express the best of Italian design.

They are precisely these peculiarities that make the new saloon boasting Lancia prestige something special, a product that when used every day turns the concept of a simple “means of transport” into an exhilarating travelling experience. That is because a “great trip” is not just leaving and arriving, but a continuous string of thrills and discoveries during all the time that passes.

Measuring 5066 mm long, 1488 mm high, 1902 wide and with a wheelbase of 3052 mm, the new Thema stands out in the prestigious saloon category thanks to its contemporary, distinctive style. The same class is found inside where just like a cocooning and encircling living room, the quality of materials and fabrics elegantly “clothes” the most advanced technology serving comfort and safety.

On sale from October in all European dealerships, the Lancia Thema is available in three trim levels – Gold, Platinum and Executive – and with three engines: the 286 HP 3.6L V6 petrol engine with 8-speed automatic gearbox and the new 190 HP or 239 HP 3.0L V6 turbodiesel engines, both with 5-speed automatic gearbox.

Italian quality and elegance poured into a great saloon of prestige

The new Thema combines segment-leading standards with the unmistakable comfort and class that has always set Lancia cars apart. With the new flagship, the brand is interpreting the theme of the great saloon of prestige according to its chromosomes. Chromosomes that come from the typically Italian craftsmanship that expertly uses prestigious materials not only based on their looks, but also on the sensory reactions they are able to give.

We draw major impressions when we look at and touch the passenger compartment of a car, when looking at its details, sitting down on the seats, grasping the steering wheel, and when assessing the pleasantness of the surroundings and the quality of the upholtery and finishes. All of this is called “perceived quality”. The opinion drawn from it is the summation of a thousand different characteristics, from the shape of the objects to the materials with which they are made and the individual colours and combination to the tactile sensations we get. All of these stimuli contribute to giving the final perception to an equal extent.

This is the reason why so much time was dedicated to working on every single detail when designing the new Thema. The result is a quality passenger compartment made with noble, warm and exclusive materials, far from the cold and rational surfaces of other cars of its segment. In detail, the interiors reveal a unique style and offer passengers excellent comfort, with soft touch materials, luxury interior trims with the option of heated seats in Nappa leather and a Poltrona Frau® leather-clad dashboard, as well as real wood inserts on the centre console, panels, doors and steering wheel (in two-tone leather on the Executive version). The dashboard is enhanced by discreet chrome finishing and by a dashboard with innovative double cluster design featuring Sapphire Blue lighting, a colour also used for the passenger compartment LED lighting. In order to guarantee “best-in-class” comfort, the seats have been designed with new architecture which includes serpentine spring suspension. The front seats offer four-way lumbar adjustment with up/down and front/back direction actuators and density adjuster.

Quality and elegance also distinguish the exteriors of the new flagship, in a perfect stylistic balance that exalts the classic proportions of the model. On the front end, the grille brings together the Lancia logo and the horizontal bars expressing precision and formal rigour, in a single design. The chrome-plated finish of the bars and the outline of the logo create a particular contrast inside the frame, which is also chrome-plated. The whole look is enhanced by two innovative headlights with LED technology and the DRL function, which together form a “C” shape for unmistakable and impressive road presence.

The profile of the new Lancia flagship highlights the distinctive proportions of its predecessor, with the addition of luxury finishings which lend a stylish appearance. The prominent front end joins with the lines of the roof, blending with the three-quarters of the back characterised by the unmistakable rear light clusters that complete the silhouette. What’s more, the angle of the windscreen guarantees an aerodynamic effect and the slim pillars enable the driver to benefit from excellent visibility.

Rounding off the car’s outstanding finishing, the rear end features a built-in spoiler with the Lancia logo sitting proudly below. Capable of lighting up the darkest night, the two harmoniously designed LED tail lights are linked by a chrome-plated fascia which underlines the class of the new flagship. The muscular front is echoed by two chrome-plated exhaust tail pipes which offer a stylistic reminder of the performance of the engines in the range.

 Segment-leading performance

Designed to provide outstanding efficiency about town and on longer journeys, the Lancia Thema offers brilliant engines combined with next-generation automatic transmissions.

286 HP 3.6L V6

Compact and lightweight (entirely made of aluminium), the petrol engine is a Chrysler Group Pentastar V6 that is at the top of this power bracket. Specifically, thanks to new technological implementations in observance of the Euro 5 legislation, this “six-cylinder” supplies 286 HP of power at 6350 rpm and 340 nm of maximum torque at 4650 rpm, with CO2 emissions of 219 g/km (combined cycle fuel consumption: 9.4l/100 km). Equipped like this, the new Thema can reach a top speed of 230 km/h, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. This is also the result of the new 8-speed gearbox.

190 HP and 239 HP 3.0L V6

The two Euro 5 diesel engines – built by VM Motori and developed together with Fiat Powertrain – respectively deliver 190 HP at 4000 rpm and 239 HP at 4000 rpm, and are combined with a 5-speed automatic gearbox. In particular, the 239 HP version boasts a maximum torque of 550 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm, whereas the 190 HP has a maximum torque of 440 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm. Both diesel engines have CO2 emissions of 185 g/km and combined cycle fuel consumption of 7.1 l/100 km.

In taking a closer look, the new 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine is a compact 60-degree graphite cast iron block with aluminium heads and structural aluminium oil sump in two elements. The bore is 83 mm and the stroke is 92 mm. Total displacement is 2987 cm3. Bore distance is 96 mm.

Compact and lightweight, the new engine is 695 mm long, 729 mm wide and 697.5 mm high. The total weight of the new engine is 230 kg.

The engine block has a new architecture with reinforced structure that comprises a crankcase able give the crankshaft a rigid support. This in turn contributes to reducing, on the whole, the noise of the reciprocating lower components and to improving quietness, vibrations and rigidity.

The aluminium oil sump in two elements is designed to provide resistance and improve the quietness of the engine in order to increase the structural rigidity of the engine block. The crankcase has a 7.7-litre capacity.

The heads are made of aluminium and are the twin overhead camshaft type with chain drive and four valves per cylinder. The intake and exhaust valves have diameters of 28 mm and 24.5 mm, respectively. The combustion chamber volume is 24.68 cm3.

The forged steel crankshaft is supported by four bearings equipped with main supports with four holes incorporated in the crankcase. Balanced on the outside, the crankshaft is 442.2 mm long. This feature made it possible to reduce the engine configuration requirements on the whole. The cast iron connecting rods have a total length of 162.9 mm.

The shell cast aluminium pistons are lightweight and have been redesigned so as to minimize friction. The compression ratio of the new diesel engine has been reduced to 16.5:1 (compared to 18.1:1 of the previous model), and provides a cleaner combustion while at the same time ensuring more power.

The main bearing supports are lead-free to guarantee less environmental impact both during production and during the later engine recycling phases.

The induction system includes the turbulence control system to optimise combustion. Fitted between the intake system and the combustion chamber, turbulence control supplies the best flow of air through the combustion chamber to optimise the engine’s efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions.

The 1800 bar common rail injection system ensures the exact fuel supply. Thanks to the new MultiJet II technology, which makes use of a special balanced solenoid valve, the new injector is capable of making up to 8 injections per cycle with the possibility of managing the two main injections in a single modulated profile (IRS – Injection Rate Shaping)  thus guaranteeing a reduction in consumption and polluting emissions of approximately 2% compared to a traditional injector and ensuring a drastic reduction in noise levels.

The new 3.0 litre diesel engine uses a single variable geometry Garrett VGT 2056 turbocharger. Compact and lightweight, this turbocharger is able to provide an almost immediate response and includes an air-air intercooler.

Advance technology serving comfort and safety

Well-being on board means surrounding the driver and passengers with technologies that ensure the highest level of acoustic and climatic comfort. The need to turn the interior into a cocooned and encircling living room stems from this goal. And that’s not all. The experience of driving the flagship is made unique by first-rate handling, a wealth of infotelematics equipment and lots of devices researched to always make sure that control of the vehicle is natural and serene.

Driving and handling dynamics

The new Lancia Thema offers an innovative ultra-rigid structure originating from the Chrysler Group architecture, designed for large saloons with rear-wheel drive. Designed as a single unit, the joining of the chassis with the upper structure of the car ensures the best driving and handling dynamics with all types of road surfaces and in all weather conditions.

A large number of components were also specially designed for the chassis of the new Thema, such as  the innovative multi-link front and rear suspension system. It features a wishbone layout which, thanks to its high flexibility, keeps the wheels perpendicular to the road when cornering, ensuring maximum grip. The shock absorber has also been specifically designed to absorb every stress produced by a less than perfect road surface.

Quietness

Maximising the innovative, ultra-rigid structural design, the new Lancia Thema unveils a best-in-class noise level inside the passenger compartment. The presence of two underbody panels in a composite material, a laminated windshield and windows, noise absorbing panels in the passenger compartment and in the cavities of the wheel arches all ensure excellent absorption of road noise and a significant improvement in on-board comfort. The final result is an extremely quiet passenger compartment with virtually no external noise, with the motion of the car as it travels along the road barely perceptible.

Latest generation infotainment

Lancia Thema presents the innovative Uconnect® infotelematic system plus new on-board technology designed to keep passengers connected, safe and completely comfortable. From the touchscreen satellite navigation system and dual-zone climate control to the option of customising on-board functions, the Uconnect® Touch system guarantees an outstanding experience for driver and passengers alike.

Fitted as standard on the new flagship, the system features a large 8.4 inch touchscreen with easy-to-use controls, and allows users to connect and manage their peripheral devices (mobile phones or MP3 players). Furthermore, starting from the Platinum trim level, Lancia Thema offers the exclusive Garmin navigation system as standard which includes TMC Premium services, plus a premium audio system with 9 speakers and subwoofer for a total of 506 W amplification (on request on the Platinum trim level, and standard on the Executive). Also available upon request on the Executive is a Harmon Kardon sound system complete with 19 speakers plus subwoofer, supplying a total of 900 watts of amplification.

Active and passive safety

The new Lancia Thema offers more than 70 advanced active and passive safety features, including the electronic stability system (ESC) fitted as standard with the exclusive Ready Alert Braking and Rain Brake Support devices. The first alerts the braking system when the accelerator is released to decrease intervention time and braking distance. The second goes into operation when the windscreen wipers are activated, removing water from the brake pads. To ensure maximum visibility at night and in all poor light conditions, Lancia Thema offers Xenon Smartbeam™ self-adaptive headlights as standard.

Other equipment lavished on the new Thema includes the Active Pedestrian Protection, the system that “lifts” the rear of the bonnet in order to protect the pedestrian in the event of accidental impact, and the Keyless Enter-N-Go whose personalised remote control key makes entering your car simple and convenient and lets you start the engine by just pressing the button on the dashboard.

Parking is now easier and safer with the Parkview(Tm) Rear Back-Up Camera supplied as standard on all trim levels. It automatically activates when reverse gear is engaged and shows the view of the road on an 8.4 inch screen built into the dashboard. This function ensures maximum safety for the driver, other vehicles and, above all, pedestrians.

Also available on request are a number of innovative, distinctive features which make the new Lancia model the true benchmark for the category. Starting from the Adaptive Speed Control (ACC) that overcomes today’s limitations of traditional cruise control systems. When the vehicle reaches another slower vehicle travelling in front, the ACC system adjusts the speed and (if necessary) activates braking to maintain a safe distance in the way pre-selected by the driver, allowing the latter to avoid frequent manual intervention. This equates to a far more relaxing, comfortable driving experience for the driver. The additional Forward Collision Warning (FCS) function contributes to this sensation of on-board safety and well-being. It alerts the driver of being too close to the preceding vehicle by displaying a message on the instrument panel.

Another exclusive feature of the new Lancia Thema is the “Blind Spot Detection”. This visual indicator on the door mirror signals entry into the blind spot, namely the dangerous situation of having a car travelling alongside which is not visible in the door mirror. When the indicator is used to signal an intended lane change, a visual and audible alarm alerts the driver to check the position of vehicles around him very carefully before manoeuvring.

Completing the flagship equipment are the “Cross Path Detection” system that prevents the risk of low-speed collisions (several sensors detect the presence of moving vehicles while the driver is reversing) and the “Smartbeam™ Hid Headlamps”, the smart Xenon headlamps that automatically adjust in height and depth to ensure maximum visibility through a sensor that detects surrounding traffic/lighting conditions.

Exclusive services for a special customer

In placing his trust in a car manufacturer – whichever one it is – the customer asks to be satisfied at best. But when he turns to Lancia, he does not settle for that. One wants much more than that from a brand with a great tradition, one that has written so many important pages in automotive history while remaining faithful to its values of exclusivity and distinction: he expects to be pampered.

That is why the direct relationship between dealer and customer plays a primary role at all times, before the purchase, upon final delivery and during after-sales service. It is there that it is necessary to meet all the needs of someone used to receiving accurate and precise answers. It is only in this way that someone who buys a Lancia Thema will feel like a special, satisfied customer and will be won over by a truly unique and exclusive treatment.

For that customer the brand has come up with a programme that exceeds normal expectations and offers brand new services also for customers of the flagships. This is how “Top Care Thema” was created. It is an exclusive programme that follows the private customers of the major European markets throughout the first year. A dedicated team contacts them right after delivery and then again after four and twelve months to collect impressions and offer helpful hints and support. It will be the same preferential channel to which all Top assistance on the advanced functions of the Thema can be requested, even at home and as one requires.

And the changes don’t stop here! Actually, Lancia and FGA Capital have studied and realized “Ypsilon Tender to Thema”, an original offer for managers of those companies that choose the Thema as their official car. In detail, a few financial solutions have been created for these special customers that allow them to benefit from a new Lancia Ypsilon free of charge for 12 months.

The exclusive “Ypsilon Tender to Thema” takes its cue from the world of boating. Every prestigious yacht has its own tender, a small and practical boat used for easily reaching coves and beaches otherwise inaccessible. In the very same way the new Ypsilon has become the tender of the Thema flagship, a fashion city car that meets all mobility needs while maintaining all of the comfort and attention to detail that are classical hallmarks of the Lancia brand.

New Voyager: the art of travelling together

A true icon of the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) category with 27 years on the road and more than thirteen million units sold in 120 countries around the world, today the American model “marries” Italian style, metamorphosing into an exclusive top-range MPV in which Chrysler’s journey expertise joins forces with that of Lancia in driving pleasure, the art of attention to detail and Italian design. The result is the Lancia New Grand Voyager, the best Voyager ever, which picks up where the Lancia Phedra left off to write another page in the history of this category.

Style

Available in the Gold trim level and with two engine versions (the powerful, Euro 5-compliant 287 HP 3.6 petrol engine and the lively 163 HP 2.8L diesel, also Euro 5-compliant), Lancia Voyager unveils a brand new front end featuring the grille emblazoned with the Lancia logo, wraparound front and rear fascias, light clusters with LED lights, large headlights with built-in fog lights in the front bumper. The sides sport the typical wheel arch design, while the slim pillars coupled with large windows guarantee excellent visibility. The car is equipped with rails and crossbars on the roof while the tailgate has been redesigned with a modern, functional look in order to optimise access to the interior. The original rear spoiler provides the finishing touch for the new MPV.

One of the peculiarities of the new Lancia MPV is the excellent level of quiet. It is achieved with painstaking design that reduces the amount of noise, vibrations and roughness in addition to using new acoustic panels and silencers throughout the vehicle. The final result is an extremely quiet and comfortable passenger compartment.

The benchmark in the segment of large MPVs, Lancia Voyager is 5.21 metres long, 1.99 m wide, 1.75 m high on a wheelbase of approx. 3.1 metres. This impressive size is matched by a spacious, refined passenger compartment distinguished by quality materials and attention to detail, characteristics that have always been synonymous with Lancia.

Seats upholstered in high quality Nappa leather are offered on the Gold trim level. The interior includes leather-upholstered seats, steering wheel and gear lever knob, heated seats in the first and second rows and heated steering wheel.

In an ideal world, space is once again an element that man can mould to suit his needs through a few simple, intuitive gestures. Stow ‘n Go® is the exclusive system which frees up all the space needed for passengers and their luggage, without having to remove any seats. This innovative configuration system includes seats which can be folded away into the floor panel to transform, with the utmost ease, the five comfortable seats of the second and third row into an ample load surface, suitable for all travel and work requirements. Also, if the seats are kept upright, the practical compartments in the floor panel can be used for storage.

With the diffused light system on the upper console that contains four storage compartments and adjustable LED lights, it is like travelling aboard an executive jet. There is also a quadrangular rear view mirror that allows the driver to keep an eye on the other occupants.

The new Super Console includes two 12 volt current sockets within the driver’s reach, ideal for mobile phones and digital audio devices. Occupants of both the first and second rows have access to a glove compartment. The front LED cup holders can contain one-litre bottles. The rear cup holders can be loaded in the first row and then slid behind the second row. Then there are two storage compartments covered for greater safety.
And again with maximum versatility in mind, the new car features sliding doors and tailgate (electrically operated) with a safety system for the detection of the presence of obstacles during closure (in this case, doors are opened again to avoid unfortunate accidents).

On-board technology

Synonymous with uncompromising choice (for the driver, but also for those who have the pleasure of being a passenger), Lancia Voyager features the sophisticated Uconnect® Tunes multimedia entertainment system with Radio/CD/DVD/MP3/WMA, USB port, AUX input, 30GB hard-disk, touchscreen, plus a Bluetooth®-ready UConnect® device with voice commands and microphone built into the rear view mirror. Also included is the ParkView™ system with rear camera to view obstacles during parking. Available on request is UConnect® GPS, which adds satellite navigation with 2D and 3D bird’s eye view maps and progressive route guidance.

The experience of travelling on board the Lancia Voyager is completed by a nine-speaker audio system with subwoofer and 506 watt amplifier as well as a rear entertainment system with dual LCD screen DVD player for passengers in the middle and back rows. This particular device enables reproduction of two different media at the same time – chosen from many sources (radio, hard disk, AUX input, USB port, two RGB inputs and two DVD players) – on two 9” LCD screens complete with remote control and two-channel wireless headphones. In addition, adjustable LED roof lights, inspired by aeronautical design, enable light to be directed only where required.

Engines

Design and comfort are not the only fortes of the Lancia Voyager. The Lancia MPV proposes two Euro5-compliant engines which enhance the dimension of travel, with engineering and performance coming together to deliver comfort beyond compare. The lively Diesel 2.8L with particulate filter as standard delivers 163 HP and a torque of 360 Nm, keeping fuel consumption at 7.9 l/100 km in the combined cycle while CO2 are 207 g/km.

The second engine in the range is the 3604 cc petrol model with 6 cylinders configured in a 60° V, which delivers 287 HP. Thrilling performance with fuel consumption of 10.8 l/100 km in the combined cycle. Note that the 287 HP 3.6 is combined with a 6-speed automatic gearbox with torque converter: this transmission offers closer spacing between the gears, limiting engine speed changes between the different transmission ratios and guaranteeing smoother engagements suited to all driving situations.

Safety

The new Lancia Voyager is also at the cutting edge when it comes to safety features, as can be seen from the next-generation front airbags (both multi-stage), side window bags on the three rows of seats and side bags for shoulder and chest in the front row. Also available is an assisted parking system with the option of integrating a “rear back-up camera” with a screen showing a precise view of what is behind the vehicle during reversing.

New Flavia Cabrio: four seats, four seasons

Following its critical and public success enjoyed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Lancia decided to produce the original Flavia Cabrio which enhances the stylistic features of the Italian manufacturer the Chrysler 200 model being launched on the European market.

The Lancia convertible is an interesting alternative for customers who want the benefits of a coupé without giving up the unique sensations that only an open-air car can offer. The new car indeed guarantees a fine driving experience unparalleled by any other in its segment, whether tackling the daily trip in town to go to the office or when taking to the splendid scenic roads out of town on week-ends.

In terms of length (4.9 metres), height (1.4 m) and width (1.8 m), the Lancia Flavia Cabrio is at the top of segment D, offering the ultimate in interior room – it can accommodate up to four adults – and on-board comfort with its generous 276-cm wheelbase.

Identifiable by an elegant and dynamic look, the new Flavia Cabrio has a sculpturesque front sporting the unprecedented grille with Lancia logo and the original front headlights and fog lights.

The surface of the side panel is extremely elegant and clean, in addition to being distinguished by a sleek line that lengthens the car and gives it dynamism and by elegant 18″ alloy wheels.

The rear LED light cluster stylistically joined by a thin chrome-plated bar that further enhances the overall look contributes to accentuating its elegant design. This impression is further reinforced by the unusual twin chrome-plated tailpipe and by the sophisticated electrically-controlled soft top enclosed inside the hood cover, harmoniously built into the body with the third brake light at its base.

So if “elegance and dynamism” describe the exterior of the new Flavia Cabrio, the guidelines inside are refinement and innovation, in perfect tune with Italian style and the craftsmanship quality that has always distinguished Lancia cars. Aesthetic refinement that flows through the entire passenger compartment and wraps around driver and passengers in a warm, sophisticated “embrace” thanks to the painstaking selection of fine materials, the attention devoted to every minimum details and the adoption of advanced comfort, safety and driving pleasure features.

In short, the new Flavia Cabrio boasts a sophisticate surrounding that will without a doubt win over a customer who seeks exclusiveness, technology and Italian taste in a car. A new console has been created for him. It has elegant chrome-plated frames and a large central display; a brand new steering wheel wrapped in full-grain leather complete with built-in controls for managing radio, cruise control and mobile phone in total safety; and newly designed seats upholstered in fine leather, complete with practical “active” headrests.

Equipped with the brilliant 175 HP 2.4 litre petrol engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, the captivating Lancia Flavia Cabrio is offered in a single, exclusive version that is “all inclusive”. As the name itself intimates, it offers a wealth of standard equipment, from the top quality leather upholstery, electronic stability control (ESC) and traction, latest-generation ABS and numerous airbags (front multi-stage, side and window bags) to the ISOFIX mountings for transporting children in complete safety, the innovative Uconnect® multimedia system complete with satellite navigation system, and the sophisticated “Boston Acoustic Sound System”.

New Ypsilon: synthesis of elegance and innovation

The new Lancia Ypsilon is a “small flagship” – which packs the best of Italian style, innovation and eco-friendliness into just 3.84 metres. For the first time it is offered in a 5-door version designed to offer even greater convenience and comfort to devotees of Lancia charm, technological excellence and unique style.

At the heart of the Ypsilon’s design is an original approach to the “premium” car concept that redefines the meaning of the word “luxury”, fascinating those who seek originality and character, those who love technology and elegance, and those who admire quality and innovation. With Ypsilon, luxury becomes something unique that triggers an emotion, the pleasure of “owning” but without pretentious display, the search for uniqueness in any area, the statement of one’s true personality without allowing himself to be swayed by the judgements of others.

The new Ypsilon, which has been on the market from June across key European markets and from September will be in Great Britain and Ireland with the Chrysler brand, is the fourth series of the successful model – more than one and a half million cars on the road – born in 1985 when the Y10 debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a miniature flagship with style and content features never seen before on an economy car of the day, marking that forerunner spirit that was to accompany the model until today. It was the Lancia Y’s turn in 1996: elegant, elite, with a strong personality that reinforced the concept of “customized luxury”. Hence we arrived in 2003 when the third generation, the Lancia Ypsilon, brought to the world of city-cars the technology and “class” till then exclusively reserved for models in higher segments.

Now the baton is taken up by the new Ypsilon, which confirms it is the “Fashion City-Car” par excellence that continues to charm with its personality, sophisticated style and unconventional class, but it has become more grown up and mature, with a wider appeal. And below this polished exterior bearing the prestigious “Made in Italy” label lies all the substance of a car that boasts cutting-edge technology applied to engines as recently confirmed by the four awards given to the TwinAir engine in the “International Engine of the Year” competition. This innovative engine surpassed the competition in all the categories where it competed, and it took the “International Engine of the Year 2011” title. In addition to the TwinAir, new Ypsilon engineering excellence continues with the eco-friendly Multijet II and Start&Stop systems and unique features in this category, including the brand new “Blue&Me–TomTomLIVE” and “Smart fuel” system”, in addition to the innovative second-generation Magic Parking , Bi-Xenon headlights and LED tail lights.

A refined and innovative Italian “5-door” with the look typical of a “3-door”, the new Ypsilon is a very compact car, so much so that it remains in segment “B” but with high standards of roominess and comfort: although just 384 cm long, 167 cm wide and 152 cm high, with a wheelbase of 239 cm, the New Ypsilon can accommodate up to five people and in relation to its size, has one of the most spacious boots in its segment and is one of the best in class in terms of passenger room. Without increasing the size of the rear passenger area, excellent accessibility and comfort have been achieved with the use of “slim seats”, a technology used here for the first time by Fiat Group Automobiles.

In this way the New Ypsilon continues its domination of the key city-car category in response both to recent market trends where the “5-door” market represents two-thirds of segment B, and to the needs of a broader target than that reached until now, including young men and young families. It is precisely regarding the quality, comfort and usability of the interiors that the new car is determined to make all the difference. Hop inside and you become aware of the refined materials and colour combinations, the attention to detail and the numerous options for customization.

The range includes more than 600 customisations generated by the combination of 3 trim levels (Silver, Gold and Platinum), all built to offer the customer a high product value, 16 elegant liveries of which 4 are two-tone, 6 different upholstery trims, 3 types of alloy wheels and 3 engines: 2 petrol (69 HP 1.2 Fire EVO II and 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir, the latter also with DFN semi-automatic gearbox), a turbodiesel (95 HP 1.3 MultiJet II), all equipped with Start&Stop technology as standard. Afterwards also the 1.2 Fire EVO II Bi-fuel engine (petrol and LPG) will be available.

Note that a wealth of equipment in the field of safety is standard on the entire range: electronic stability control complete with ASR and Hill Holder, ABS with EBD, from 4 to 6 airbags (front, window-bags and side), in addition to the ISOFIX attachments.

Therefore, the new car represents an evolution of the Ypsilon model in terms of technology, safety, comfort and usability, but even so it preserves its positioning of “accessible luxury” as an attractive price list demonstrates. In detail, the Silver trim level provides door opening remote control, height- and reach-adjustable steering wheel, electric front windows, 50/50 split rear seat, height-adjustable driver seat, 15″ steel wheels, interiors in technical fabric with fitted electro-welded seams, radio set-up and rear heated window. In terms of safety, ABS with EBD, ESP complete with ASR and Hill Holder, front and side airbags, and also the Isofix attachments are offered standard (depending on the markets and versions). In addition to this great quantity of equipment, the Gold version adds: manual climate control, radio with CD and MP3 player, electrically adjustable door mirrors, d leather-trimmed gear-lever gaiter and steering wheel, Castiglio upholstery and Comfort Pack. Finally, the Platinum trim level offers the added rear electric windows, fog lights, 15” alloy wheels, rear seat head restraints and leather upholstery.

In addition, for those eager to customize their New Ypsilon and make it truly exclusive, an extensive range of fine, top quality accessories is available. Not only do the accessories offer great style and meticulous attention to detail, but they also go beautifully with the car, in line with the unmistakable Lancia style and in full compliance with technical, stylistic and mechanical characteristics of the new car. From exclusive 16” alloy wheels, side skirts and tinted headlights to a black kick plate with illuminated logo, a “Blue&Me –TomTom LIVE” and the Accessories Packs.

The new Ypsilon has its sights set on becoming the alternative “premium” city car in Europe, designed as it is for a demanding customer who likes to stand out from the crowd but who also, at the same time, wants a car that is enjoyable and comfortable for everyday use. Without forgetting that nowadays the product itself is not the only “premium” element for enticing a potential customer. For this reason the brand has come up with important new sales and after-sales proposals to cater to the desires, needs, tastes and aspirations of many different customers. An example? The extended warranty devised by FGA Capital, a finance company specialising in the automotive sector. What’s exciting about this solution is the extended duration up to 96 months, the unlimited mileage and the contents: a complete coverage for the vehicle components. What’s more, you will even receive the same level of coverage for the entire duration of your loan, a distinctive feature on the market.

New Delta: the compact flagship according to Lancia

Presented at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2008, Lancia Delta is the Brand’s milestone model which heralded a new concept, bringing the attributes of a flagship to segment C. Its 4.5 metres pack in all the luxury and interior space of a higher category: the seats recline into chaise-longues, the upholstery reveals quality textures and passengers are cocooned by an almost magical comfort and silence on every journey.

So, Delta is the compact flagship that fulfils the modern requirements of mobility and prestige thanks to the concept of “downsizing”, i.e. ensuring performance and luxury of a superior level at reduced cost, size and fuel consumption levels. The latest innovations of the range fall within this context: a new grille in keeping with the new Lancia family feeling, and a new offer of trim levels and engines including the 105 HP Euro 5 1.6 Multijet and the unprecedented 120 HP Euro 5 1.4 Turbo Jet LPG. The new Delta is sold in major European markets (with the Chrysler trademark in Great Britain and Ireland).

The new EURO 5 120 HP bi-fuel 1.4 Turbo Jet

Following the huge success of the Euro 4 version, the Lancia Delta with the new 120 HP 1.4 Turbo LPG in the Euro 5 version returns to the Ecochic range.

The new dual fuel (LPG and petrol) version completes the Ecochic range, today made up of the Ypsilon and Musa models, according to the principle, “The environment is a luxury we want to allow ourselves”. Compared with petrol and diesel fuel, LPG cuts particulate emissions to zero and slashes the emission of other pollutant substances (up to 15% less carbon dioxide, up to 20% less carbon monoxide and up to 60% less unburnt hydrocarbons). Thanks to these specifications, LPG prolongs the life of the engine and improves the quality of the environment. Last but not least, running on LPG practically does not affect passenger comfort or vehicle performance.

Equipped with the EURO 5 120 HP 1.4 Turbo Jet bi-fuel engine, the new Delta LPG is available in three different trim levels (Steel, Silver and Gold) for all European markets.

Like for the Ypsilon and Musa models fitted with a 77 HP Euro 5 1.4 8V bi-fuel engine, also the Lancia Delta offers a bi-fuel engine (120 HP 1.4 Turbo Jet) built by Fiat Powertrain, designed specifically for maximum integration and reliability with the LPG system. It is factory-fitted (each car is certified, tested and guaranteed by Lancia Automobiles and, as such, can take advantage of the government incentive schemes in various European countries).

In detail, the power unit for the Lancia Delta Turbo LPG has valves and valve seats with configurations and materials specially designed for LPG operation. Equipped with a special intake system for the LPG injectors, not only does the particular bi-fuel 1.4 Turbo Jet have all the additional electrical wiring built-in, but develops a maximum power of 120 HP (88 kW) at 5000 rpm and delivers a maximum torque of 206 Nm (21 kg/m) at 1750 rpm. Equipped like this, the Lancia Delta Turbo LPG reaches a top speed of 195 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds.

The new Delta version is designed to run independently on either petrol or LPG: the engine is always started up on petrol and switches automatically to LPG after about 40 seconds. It is of course possible to switch from one fuel to another whilst driving by pressing a special button built into the dashboard. If the driver finds there is no LPG left in the cylinder, switching to petrol operation takes place automatically to ensure a smooth drive. Its overall range is impressive: 1413 km. Lastly, it should be stressed that LPG is a much cheaper fuel than petrol, diesel or methane (the price per litre is about 50% less than unleaded petrol). It is possible to fill the tank of the Delta Turbo LPG will just 37 euros (average price in Italy). The distribution network is also widespread throughout Europe, with more than 10,000 points of sale.

The toroid type (ring-shaped) LPG cylinder has a 52-litre capacity and is located in the spare wheel housing so that it does not take up space in the luggage compartment (the inflation kit is fitted as standard).

Compared with an after-market conversion, a car with a factory-fitted system has many advantages. For example, the use of specific materials and components and the application of dedicated technology enabling the customer to benefit from a Lancia contractual warranty. Since the modifications to the chassis are carried out directly in the factory, the car makes claim to the highest standards of comfort and safety as borne out by the numerous and stringent tests that the various system components are subjected to.
