BMW model update measures for autumn 2013.

Munich. Substantial additions to the BMW engine range in autumn 2013 are set to lend fresh momentum to the current BMW model push. In November 2013 another three variants will be added to the line-up of engines for the most recent addition to the BMW model family, the BMW 4 Series Coupe. The BMW 435d Coupe will enter the fray as the most powerful variant of the new two-door model. Its 230 kW/313 hp six-cylinder in-line diesel engine teams up as standard with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system BMW xDrive, which will now also be available as an option for the BMW 420i Coupe and BMW 420d Coupe. The BMW 3 Series will also welcome the arrival of an all-wheel-drive flagship model this autumn in the shape of the BMW 335d xDrive Touring.

A trio of additional engine variants will also join the new BMW X5 line-up in December 2013, including an outstandingly efficient variant of the luxurious Sports Activity Vehicle. The BMW X5 sDrive25d has a four-cylinder diesel engine, rear-wheel drive and average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of just 5.6 – 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (50.4 – 49.6 mpg imp), depending on the tyre format selected.

Among the attractive new additions to the equipment offered by a host of BMW models are the latest new features in the BMW ConnectedDrive range. Enhancing safety and comfort, for example, are the new Traffic Jam Assistant and fully automatic BMW Parking Assistant, which will be introduced in the BMW 5 Series in November this year and in the new BMW X5 in December.

Sporting elegance and even greater variety: customers can now choose from six engines for the BMW 4 Series Coupe; five models available with BMW xDrive.

Its irresistible balance between aesthetic appeal and dynamic capability marks the BMW 4 Series Coupe out from the crowd, and the new two-seater also offers customers a selection of sporty and efficient engines. The output spectrum of the power units has been broadened once again, with the range poised to swell to three petrol and three diesel variants from November 2013. The new entry-level petrol model is the BMW 420i Coupe. Here, a 135 kW/184 hp four-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology teams up with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard or an eight-speed automatic as an option. The engine ranks have been expanded by the arrival of two six-in-line diesel variants with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The unit under the bonnet of the BMW 430d Coupe produces 190 kW/258 hp and sends its power to the rear wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 230 kW/313 hp BMW 435d Coupe is likewise fitted as standard with the eight-speed automatic, but comes with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. Indeed, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system is now also offered as an option for the BMW 420i Coupe and BMW 420d Coupe, taking the number of BMW 4 Series Coupe variants available with all-wheel drive to five.

Alongside the expansion of the engine range, the choice of BMW Lines for the BMW 4 Series Coupe has now been completed. The BMW Sport Line and BMW Luxury Line packages already introduced will be joined by the BMW Modern Line, whose distinctive exterior and interior touches shine a particularly strong spotlight on the Coupe’s progressive looks. The stand-out features of the BMW Modern Line include bespoke light-alloy wheels, Aluminium satinated design elements, the colour shade Oyster for the seat surfaces, lower section of the instrument panel and roof liner, a sports leather steering wheel and variable-colour ambient lighting.

New flagship model for the BMW 3 Series Touring: the BMW 335d xDrive Touring.

November 2013 will also see the premiere of a new flagship model for the BMW 3 Series. Like the BMW 435d Coupe, the BMW 335d xDrive Touring has a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine developing 230 kW/313 hp to thank for its sporting performance credentials. And BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive also lend the five-door model compelling dynamics, impressive ride comfort and fuel economy well beyond the norm in this output class.

The new BMW X5: a fresh dimension in driving pleasure and efficiency.

Hot on the heels of its market launch, the addition of another three engines and four new model variants to the new BMW X5 line-up is set to extend the Sports Activity Vehicle’s efficiency lead over its rivals. The third-generation X5 will be available for the first time from December 2013 with a BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine and rear-wheel drive. The engine powering the new BMW X5 xDrive25d and BMW X5 sDrive25d uses two turbochargers and common rail direct injection to produce maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp and links up as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The hallmark driving pleasure, eye-catching design, luxurious ambience and outstanding variability of the SAV can therefore be enjoyed at the same time as impressively low fuel consumption and emissions. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.6 – 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (50.4 – 49.6 mpg imp) for the BMW X5 sDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 149 – 151 g/km) and 5.8 – 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres (48.7 –47.9 mpg imp) for the BMW X5 xDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 154 – 156 g/km, figures depending on the tyre format selected).

Also new to the line-up are the BMW X5 xDrive35i with its 225 kW/306 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and the BMW X5 xDrive40d, whose straight-six diesel unit develops 230 kW/313 hp. The new additions take their places alongside the existing BMW X5 xDrive30d, whose six-cylinder in-line diesel engine produces 190 kW/258 hp, the V8 petrol BMW X5 xDrive50i (330 kW/450 hp) and a BMW M Performance Automobile – the BMW X5 M50d (280 kW/381 hp).

New and exclusive: the BMW Individual portfolio for the BMW X5.

In December 2013, model-specific BMW Individual options will be added to the optional extras already available for all engine variants of the new BMW X5. These features serve the cause of exclusive style and meet the highest standards of material selection, design and build quality. For example, BMW Individual fine-grain Merino leather trim can be specified for the new BMW X5. complete with extended features in Criollo Brown and Amaro Brown. Stand-out aspects of this option include stitching and piping in a contrasting colour and decorative perforations on the seat surfaces. BMW Individual interior trim strips are available in two variants: Piano Finish Black and Sen Light Brown fine wood.

On the outside of the car, 20-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design with mixed tyres help to build an even more exclusive showcase for the sporting pedigree of the BMW X5. And the range of exterior paint finishes for the SAV gives customers a still broader portfolio from which to choose. In addition to the new Mineral Silver, Glacier Silver and Imperial Blue diamond effect metallic paint variants, the BMW Individual finishes Ruby Black metallic and Pyrite Brown metallic will also be available as of December 2013.

More safety, comfort and driving pleasure thanks to BMW ConnectedDrive: fully automatic Parking Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus including Traffic Jam Assistant.

The BMW ConnectedDrive range of features is set to gain even further in appeal and variety in autumn 2013 with the introduction of a fresh round of innovations which further enhance comfort, safety and therefore also driving pleasure. The optional Driving Assistant Plus system now also includes the Traffic Jam Assistant function, and the new generation of the BMW Parking Assistant also makes its debut – likewise on the options list.

Traffic Jam Assistant increases comfort in stop-start situations on motorways. This system maintains a pre-set distance to the vehicle in front and slows the car to a standstill. It also actively takes over the steering, helping the driver to stay in their lane (provided they are holding the steering wheel with at least one hand). The version of Driving Assistant Plus with this new auxiliary function will be available for all BMW 5 Series models from November 2013 and for the BMW X5 from December 2013.

The fully automatic BMW Parking Assistant – which will be available for the first time from autumn 2013 – also boasts extended functionality. This system helps the driver to identify and drive into parking spaces positioned parallel to the road. The new version of the Parking Assistant not only carries out the steering movements required to reverse across into the parking space, it also controls the accelerator and brake pedal and selects the correct gear – all the driver has to do is activate the relevant turn signal indicator and hold down the Parking Assistant button, and the vehicle will glide fully autonomously into the parking space selected. The fully automatic Parking Assistant will be available for the BMW 5 Series Sedan and BMW 5 Series Touring from November 2013 and for the new BMW X5 from December 2013.

Additional BMW Individual special paint finishes for the BMW M5 and BMW M6.

With the aim of combining outstanding dynamics with ultra-exclusive looks, additional variants have been added to the selection of BMW Individual special paint finishes available for the most powerful high-performance sports cars built by BMW M GmbH. Joining the range are Frozen Black metallic, Frozen Blue metallic, Frozen Red metallic and Frozen Brilliant White metallic, which can all be ordered for the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe. A sophisticated painting process used exclusively by the BMW Group lends the surface of vehicles specified in these paint shades an eye-catching, velvety matt appearance which richly emphasises the body’s powerful form. In addition, the BMW Individual special paint finish Frozen Cashmere Silver metallic is available for all model variants of the BMW M6.
