Όπως δημοπρατήθηκε η πρώτη Ford Mustang GT έναντι $300.000 με τα χρήματα να πηγαίνουν στο ίδρυμα Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, το οποίο είναι το μεγαλύτερο παγκοσμίως για θέματα ερευνών του σακχαρώδους διαβήτη τύπου 1, έτσι θα γίνει και με την 1964ή Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition που θα περάσει από τη γραμμή παραγωγής στη φετινή δημοπρασία του Barrett-Jackson, που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Las Vegas τον ερχόμενο Σεπτέμβριο.
Το νούμερο φυσικά και δεν είναι τυχαίο, γιατί εκείνη ήταν η χρονιά που ξεκίνησε για πρώτη φορά τη καριέρα του το αμερικάνικο muscle car. Όπως γνωρίζουμε η ειδική έκδοση του μοντέλου, βασίζεται πάνω στη Mustang GT, φορά το πακέτο Performance και θα περάσει σε μόλις 1.964 μονάδες στη παραγωγή. Είναι διαθέσιμο σε δύο χρώματα (Wimbledon White και Kona Blue), διαθέτοντας πλούσιο εξοπλισμό, με ζάντες 19″, μεγάλα brembo φρένα και είναι διαθέσιμο τόσο με μηχανικό όσο και με αυτόματο κιβώτιο, 6 σχέσεων και τα δύο.
O V8 5,0-λίτρων κινητήρας αποδίδει 420 άλογα με 528 Nm ροπής, με το επετειακό Mustang να διαθέτει Torsen μπλοκέ διαφορικό. Στο εσωτερικό υπάρχουν δερμάτινο τιμόνι, και δερμάτινες επενδύσεις στα καθίσματα, στις πλάτες των οποίων υπάρχει το λογότυπο Mustang 50 Year. Το παραπάνω αυτοκίνητο, θα διαθέτει επίσης, ένα one-off pace car πακέτο, καθώς και την υπογραφή του Bill Ford και άλλως στελεχών της Μπλε Οβάλ.
Ο νικητής θα παραλάβει επίσης ένα VIP πακέτο για το NASCAR Sprint Cup στο Homestead-Miami Speedway στις 16 Νοεμβρίου, που περιλαμβάνει αεροπορική μετάβαση, ξενοδοχείο και δυο εισητήρια για το event. Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute’s Get Your Heart Racing program will be the beneficiary when a 50 Year Limited Edition 2015 Ford Mustang, No. 1,964, crosses the block at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction in late September. Ford will build only 1,964 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang fastbacks in honor of the year the pony car debuted.
“Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “The visceral look, sound and performance of Mustang resonates with people, even if they’ve never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of Ford Motor Company.”
That makes it all the more fitting that this rare 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang will be auctioned as part of the annual Get Your Heart Racing program to raise funds for Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute at Henry Ford Hospital.
Each limited-edition car features a plaque on the instrument panel engraved with a serial number and the signature of Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford. Mustang No. 1,964 will be customized into a one-of-one pace car package that includes the signatures of other Ford executives. The car will be revealed publicly for the first time at the Get Your Heart Racing Pit Party sponsored by Crest Automotive Group, Sept. 12 at Eastern Market in Detroit.

Barrett-Jackson auction and NASCAR championship weekend
After headlining the Get Your Heart Racing Pit Party in Detroit, Mustang No. 1,964 heads to Las Vegas for the Barrett-Jackson auction, which takes place Sept. 25-27. In addition to the pride of owning this one-of-a-kind car, the auction winner will receive a VIP package to the Ford EcoBoost 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 16, where No. 1,964 will pace the championship race.
The auction package includes airfare, hotel accommodations and two VIP tickets to the track. A Ford NASCAR driver will run hot laps in Mustang No. 1,964 ahead of the race.
Get Your Heart Racing auctioned the “movie-star” Mustang that appeared in the Dreamworks box-office smash “Need for Speed” – a film adaptation of the popular video game of the same name. When the Barrett-Jackson auctioneer’s gavel ended the spirited bidding, that Mustang had sold for $300,000, causing the packed house to erupt in cheers.
“The Get Your Heart Racing program has become our biggest annual fundraiser, and everybody who participates seems to love it,” said Sandy Hudson, chief development officer, Henry Ford Hospital. “With the help of our sponsors – especially Ford Motor Company – we’re looking to 2014 to be our biggest and best year yet.”
