Audi extends its golf commitment
- New partnership as co-sponsor of 2011 Berenberg Bank Masters
- Amateurs compete at worldwide Audi quattro Cup
- A further highlight: the Ladies German Open presented by Audi
Audi enters the 2011 golf season with an extended commitment. In June the automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt will support the Berenberg Bank Masters as co-sponsor and official vehicle partner. Other highlights include commitments as Presenting Sponsor of the UniCredit Ladies German Open and the 21st season of the Audi quattro Cup for amateur golfers around the world.
With a pot of 400,000 euros the Berenberg Bank Masters ranks among the most attractive events on the European tournament calendar. From June 17 to 19 the European Tour will meet at the Golf- und Land-Club Köln (Cologne), returning to Germany after a ten-year absence. As co-sponsor and official vehicle partner, Audi will provide 15 shuttle vehicles and an Audi A7 as the “hole-in-one” prize and will display show cars and banner advertisements at the facility. For the inaugural event the organizers have signed Bernhard Langer as host, ambassador and participant. The German, who is currently the most successful player in German Seniors Golf, will compete against prominent international golfers.
A month earlier, from May 19 to 22, Europe’s best female players will meet under the symbol of the Four Rings on the outskirts of Munich. Audi is again the Presenting Sponsor and official vehicle partner of the UniCredit Ladies German Open. At Golfpark Gut Häusern the professional golfers of the Ladies European Tour (LET) will play for a pot of 350,000 euros. 25 shuttle vehicles will take guests and golfers to the facility and, in addition, ten selected lady pros will receive an Audi A3 Cabriolet for the duration of the tournament. Those who would also like to drive an Audi home have two chances to do so at the Ladies Open: either win the tournament and an Audi A5 Cabriolet along with it or score a hole-in-one at hole 15. This year Audi donates an R8 Spyder as the “hole-in-one prize.”
The Audi Golf Terminal featuring a presentation of current Audi models will be a focal place of interest on all days of the tournament. Visitors can also gain some insights into the remainder of Audi’s sporting world here. The Audi A4 DTM, a race car from the popular touring car series, will be showcased as well.
In its 21st season the Audi quattro Cup will be held at a spectacular venue. After last year, in which the event celebrated its 20th anniversary, saw more than 80,000 golfers competing around the world and selecting their champions in Sardinia, the season in Germany is now getting ready to start again. At the invitation of regional Audi partners, the qualification tournaments will be held as “foursomes with selection drive” from April to September. The winners qualify for the German finale to be staged at the Frankfurt Golfclub from September 5 to 9. The two top teams will then meet with international competitors at the other end of the world two months later. The world finale this year will take place at the Mission Hills Golf Club on the outskirts of the Chinese metropolis Shenzhen. The facility designed by prominent names in international golf is considered the largest one in the world.
The Audi Ladies Cup is the Audi quattro Cup’s counterpart for female golfers. The series, held since 1995, is played as an annual eclectic at about 120 German golf clubs in Germany every year at the invitation of regional Audi partners. In addition, the club winners participate in the drawing of a ProAm slot at the UniCredit Ladies German Open.
This year will also bring the decision about which bidder will host the 2018 Ryder Cup. Aiming for Germany to be selected as the host for the first time since the 1927 inaugural event of the world’s most prestigious golf tournament, Audi supports the bid by RC Deutschland GmbH with the facility of the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds in Neuburg an der Donau. If Germany should be selected, Audi will support the construction of the tournament facility and the Ingolstadt region will gain the Audi Course as a golf center that is suitable for championships. In addition to Germany, four other European countries are bidding to host the Cup, the decision is expected to be announced on May 17.
A week later the Süddeutsche Zeitung Business Golf Cup, which Audi is now supporting for the seventh time, will be held. The event at the Wittelsbacher Golfclub on May 24 opens a series of 15 one-day tournaments. The Cup not only defines itself as a sporting competition but also as an ideal opportunity to intensify existing business relations and to establish new contacts. The finale is scheduled for September 20 at the St. Eurach Golfclub in Iffeldorf. Further information is available at www.businessgolfclub.de.
Initially until June of this year Audi will present the 15-minute Audi Golf News on SPORT1. The TV program featuring news from national and international golf is aired on Thursdays and Mondays between 11:45 p.m. until midnight since March 3.
This year Audi again supports the German German Golf Association (DGV) as its exclusive automobile partner. As one of three main sponsors, Audi provides several vehicles to the association, which has almost 600,000 members. In addition, the brand is represented with the Four Rings on the membership cards of the golfers who are organized in Germany.
www.mygolf.de is the internet offering for all accredited players of the German Golf Association. Audi is the Presenting Sponsor of the website which features a wealth of information revolving around the small ball – from tournament schedules and interesting contacts through to an ordering facility for golf articles.
