THE ELECTRIC CITROËN BERLINGO IS UNVEILED AT THE HANOVER MOTOR SHOW, SETTING THE NEW STANDARD FOR ELECTRIC VANS
Citroën is unveiling its Electric Berlingo at the Hanover Motor Show. Targeting professional customers, this new LCV further demonstrates the brand’s commitment to electric vehicles and forms a close fit with the C-ZERO. This model, based on the current Citroën Berlingo, features the latest technological developments, while retaining all the qualities of the other versions in the range, with a load volume of up to 4.1 m3 and a payload capacity of 675 kg.
Citroën is unveiling the Electric Berlingo at the Hanover Motor Show. The Marque has been producing electric vehicles for some 20 years, including its C15, C25 and the first-generation Berlingo LCVs,. The advent of this new model is further proof of the brand’s determination to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The Citroën range also includes several models featuring the e-HDi micro-hybrid technology and the Hybrid4 technology in the DS5.
The Electric Berlingo meets the needs of business customers who are looking in particular for a significant load capacity, in terms of both volume and weight. The Electric Berlingo is an opportunity for business users to project a positive image of their company and to advertise their desire to protect the environment. This model also addresses the increasingly complex issue of urban mobility.
In the Electric Berlingo, the various parts of the electric powertrain are installed under the front bonnet or beneath the bodyshell.
The complete two-part battery pack is installed under the floor in the rear, offering a perfectly flat rear compartment that is identical to the one found in the internal combustion versions. With a total battery capacity of 22.5 kWh, Electric Berlingo boasts a range of 170 km. The van can be recharged in two ways, using two separate connections. The normal charge mode lasts between 6 and 12 hours, depending on the available current, while the batteries can be charged to 80% of their capacity in just 30 minutes in quick-charge mode.
The motor was developed with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation on the basis of their electric powertrain. The motor’s maximum power output is 49 kW (67 hp) and maximum torque totals 200 Nm. The power is transmitted to the front wheels through a speed reducer.
The Electric Berlingo delivers a smooth and quiet drive thanks to its single-ratio gearbox. As yet another example of the Brand’s “Créative Technologie”, the Electric Berlingo boasts a number of features that are unique in its segment:
- eco-driving information, including an energy consumption/regeneration indicator, an instantaneous energy consumption gauge and a second auxiliaries consumption gauge, displaying data on the heating and air conditioning in particular,
- a deceleration and braking energy recovery system, similar to the one already available in the CZERO,
- electric heating, with an eco-mode that limits energy consumption,
- hill start assist, coupled to the ESP system, which comes as standard.
Just like the internal combustion versions, Electric Berlingo is available in two bodywork options, normal and long, which respectively measure 4.38 m and 4.63 m in length. The cab can contain up to three seats and is sufficiently modular to load large objects. The load volume can reach 4.1 m3 and the maximum weight capacity is 675 kg, which are both identical to the internal combustion versions.
The Electric Berlingo sets a new standard on the electric vans market. Developed in partnership with the regional authorities in Galicia, Spain, the Electric Berlingo will be assembled in the production plant in Vigo. It will be launched in the first half of 2013 with a range of special services adapted to business customers.
