Ο 21χρονος Βρετανός Alex Lynn είναι το νέο μέλος της οικογένειας της Williams. Ο Πρωταθλητής GP3 του 2014, υπέγραψε χθες το συμβόλαιό του με την ομάδα, αναλαμβάνοντας το ρόλο του οδηγού εξελικτή. Επί της ουσίας, ο ρόλος του περιορίζεται στον προσομοιωτή, βοηθώντας με στην εξέλιξη της FW37, αλλά και στο στήσιμο του αυτοκινήτου για κάθε Grand Prix.
Ο Lynn βρισκόταν στην ομάδα νέων οδηγών της Red Bull, πράγμα για το οποίο δεν έχουμε κάποια ενημέρωση, αλλά είναι δύσκολο να παραμείνει εκεί. Η συμφωνία που υπήρχε με την ομάδα της DAMS, για το πρωτάθλημα του GP2, παραμένει σε ισχύ, ενώ θα βρεθεί πίσω από το τιμόνι της FW37 για μια ημέρα, στις δοκιμές της Βαρκελώνης, που θα διεξαχθούν την εβδομάδα μετά από το Ισπανικό Grand Prix τον Μάιο.
Παράλληλα, η Williams έκανε γνωστό πως στο πρώτο χειμερινό τεστ της Jerez, τις δυο πρώτες ημέρες θα οδηγήσει το νέο μονοθέσιο ο Valtteri Bottas, με τον Felipe Massa να αναλαμβάνει για τις επόμενες δυο.
Ανανέωση: Ο Lynn επιβεβαίωσε πως πλέον δεν βρίσκεται στο πρόγραμμα νέων οδηγών της Red Bull. Η απόφαση αυτή πάρθηκε με γνώμονα το μέλλον του στη Formula 1, αφού οι θέσεις καλύφθηκαν από νέους οδηγούς και τα επόμενα δυο χρόνια δεν αναμένεται να ανοίξει κάποια.
Η σύνδεσή μου με την Red Bull έχει πλέον λήξει. Ήταν μια πολύ φιλική απόφαση και για τους δυο μας.
Καλώς και πήραν την απόφασή τους σε σχέση με τον διορισμό των οδηγών της F1 και ήξερα ότι δεν θα υπήρχε ευκαιρία εκεί για να αγωνιστώ με τη Red Bull για τα επόμενα δύο χρόνια και ότι θα είναι πολύ αργά για μένα.
Το εκτιμούν αυτό. Ήθελαν να μείνω, αλλά είπαν ότι γνώριζαν ότι δεν θα μπορούσαν να με σταματήσουν από το να κυνηγήσω το όνειρό μου.

Williams Appoints Alex Lynn as Development Driver
WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING is pleased to announce that British racing driver Alex Lynn will be joining the team as Development Driver for the 2015 Formula One World Championship season.
In this role Alex will become fully immersed in the race team and gain a full understanding of its various functions. As Development Driver his primary role will be using the team’s simulation tools to help with the ongoing development of the Williams Mercedes FW37 and assisting the race engineers in setting up the car for each Grand Prix. Alex will also get behind the wheel of the FW37 for one day’s testing in Barcelona following this season’s Spanish Grand Prix in May.
Aged 21 and born in Essex, Alex began his single-seater career in Formula Renault UK, dominating the 2011 championship with a record 12 wins from 20 race starts. He was subsequently named British Club Driver of the Year at the 2011 Autosport Awards. Alex moved up to British F3 the following year and finished fourth before progressing to the prestigious FIA European F3 Championship in 2013 where he claimed third in the standings as the highest placed rookie. Alex ended the season with a dominant victory in the coveted Macau F3 Grand Prix. In 2014, Alex wrapped up the GP3 title with a record points margin, also becoming the first Englishman to claim this title. As well as his Development Driver duties for WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING in 2015, Alex will also be competing in GP2 for the Championship winning DAMS racing team.
