Lancia at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show

  • The final version of the Lancia Flavia Cabrio debuts
  • Lancia Thema AWD, the most innovative four-wheel drive of its segment
  • The “2012 collection” of the new Lancia Ypsilon
  • The Lancia Voyager’s range has been expanded with the Silver and Platinum trim levels
  • Exclusive pack for those seeking elegance and driving comfort
  • A movie set to celebrate Italian Glamour

Lancia is back at the Geneva Motor Show with a stand full of charm and elegance, where it is possible to admire its latest innovations with which it is winning back the turf of exclusivity that has always belonged to it. This affirmation is backed by a century-old history peppered with innovation and records. One of the widest ranges on the international scene proves it. It starts with segment B (Ypsilon), continues with the mid-sized segment (Delta), and is completed with the flagship (Thema), the Small and Large MPVs (Musa and Voyager) and, soon to come, the alluring segment D convertibles (new Flavia Cabrio).

The final version of the Lancia Flavia Cabrio debuts

Star of the stand at the Geneva Motor Show is the final version of the new Flavia Cabrio that can be ordered from March in the main European markets. In keeping with the stylistic features of the Lancia brand, the glamorous car interprets the Chrysler 200 model being launched on the European market. It is equipped with the 175 HP 2.4 litre engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The public visiting the Geneva Motor Show will be able to admire two models: one distinguished by a sophisticated Bright White body with interiors in two-tone black/white fine leather and the other characterised by an exterior Mineral Grey paint with black leather interiors. Both cars offer an “all inclusive” wealth of equipment as standard.

Lancia Thema AWD, the most innovative four-wheel drive of its segment

Two Lancia Themas, both offered with the top of the range Executive trim level, will be parading down the Swiss catwalk. One is equipped with the Pentastar 239 HP 3.0L V6 MultiJet II engine and the other with the 286 HP 3.6L V6 Pentastar engine combined with e-shift 8-speed automatic transmission. The latter is equipped with the brand-new AWD, the best four-wheel drive system of its segment.

The “2012 collection” of the new Lancia Ypsilon

Space has also been set aside for the new Lancia Ypsilon ”2012 collection” that has been revamped with several elegant styling features. Three models are on show in Geneva to represent the extensive and diverse range: 95 HP Gold 1.3 Multijet, 85 HP Platinum 0.9 TwinAir (also available with robotised gearbox) and 69 HP Black&Red 1.2.

The Lancia Voyager’s range has been expanded with the Silver and Platinum trim levels

The spotlight is also on the Lancia Voyager. At the Geneva Motor Show it is presenting the extension of the range that now includes the Silver and Platinum trim levels, in addition to the introduction of two new colours (Cashmere Pearl and True Blue) and the sophisticated upholstery in leather and Alcantara® for the interiors of the Platinum version. A Platinum version equipped with the 163 HP 2.8L Euro 5 turbo diesel engine is displayed on the stand.

Exclusive pack for those seeking elegance and driving comfort

The Geneva Motor Show is also the ideal showcase for the world premiere of the exclusive packthat starting from this spring will be available across the entire Lancia range. The offer proposes some of the technological contents that best ensure comfortable and stress-free driving in addition to a sense of on-board wellbeing as standard.

A movie set to celebrate Italian Glamour

All the products displayed at the Geneva Motor Show perfectly express the values shared by Lancia and Chrysler, which by now have become a single identity founded on the same will to excel in the future and on the values engraved in their respective century-old histories: design and innovation. It is precisely the “dual spirit” theme essential to the union between Lancia and Chrysler that is the concept around which the exhibition area is set up, breathing life into a sinuous motion of expressive shapes and languages in a continuous alternation between black and white, and between technology and performance on the one hand and style and elegance on the other.

It is therefore a suggestive environment that this year is characterised by a new scenographic dimension that evokes the “dolce vita” atmosphere. In fact, a real movie set has been set up, where video and graphic installations take us back to that season with sounds, words and images that belong to the collective memory. In this way Lancia on the one hand confirms its historic link with the world of cinema, and on the other hand its recapturing of a sphere of communication that has always been part of its DNA: Italian Glamour. A term that emerged precisely during the years of the “Dolce vita”.

The “Dolce vita” mood envelops all the models displayed on the stand. Completing the exhibition in Geneva is a Lancia Delta 190 HP Platinum 1.9 TwinTurbo Multijet – the compact flagship that in just 4.5 metres encloses the exclusivity and interior space of a higher category – and, only on those days when the show is open to the public, a Musa Gold 95HP 1.4 that represents the best Made in Italy craftsmanship capable of combining the comfort, room and class of a limousine with the agility and compactness of a city car.

Finally, visitors will be introduced to the products of FGA Capital, a finance company specialising in the automotive segment, through illustrative materials and certain dedicated publications handed out at the stand. The company is operative in all major European markets, and in Switzerland with Fidis Finance, with a sole mission: supporting sales of the vehicles of all Fiat Group brands by offering innovative financial products with high added value services dedicated to the dealership network, private customers and companies.

The Lancia Flavia is the quintessence of open air driving pleasure, with four genuine seats

  • Generously sized for an elegant and dynamic look
  • “All inclusive” trim level reflecting stylishness and technological exclusivity
  • 175 HP 2.4 litre engine and 6-speed automatic transmission

In keeping with the stylistic features of the Lancia brand, the glamorous Flavia Cabrio interprets the Chrysler 200 model being launched on the European market. Following its critical and public success enjoyed at the most prestigious motor shows, today Lancia offers the final version that can be ordered from March in the main European markets and produced at the Sterling Heights plant in Michigan (USA).

Generously sized for an elegant and dynamic look

The Lancia convertible is an interesting alternative for customers who want the benefits of a coupé without giving up the unique sensations that only an open-air car can offer. That is why the new Flavia Cabrio guarantees a fine driving experience unparalleled by any other in its segment, whether tackling the daily trip in town to go to the office or when taking to the splendid scenic roads out of town on week-ends.

In terms of length (4.9 metres), height (1.4 m) and width (1.8 m), the new Lancia is at the top of segment D, offering the ultimate in interior room – it can accommodate up to four adults – and on-board comfort with its generous 276-cm wheelbase.

Identifiable by an elegant and dynamic look, the Flavia Cabrio has a sculpturesque front sporting the unprecedented grille with Lancia logo and the original front headlights and fog lights. Furthermore, the surface of the side panel is extremely clean, in addition to being distinguished by a sleek line that lengthens the car and gives it dynamism and by elegant 18″ alloy wheels.

The rear LED light cluster stylistically joined by a thin chrome-plated bar that further enhances its overall look contributes to accentuating the original design. This impression is further reinforced by the unusual chrome-plated tailpipe and by the sophisticated electrically-controlled soft top enclosed inside the hood cover, harmoniously built into the body with the third brake light at its base.

The new Flavia Cabrio boasts an entirely respectable luggage compartment thanks to the technological solutions adopted for closing the soft top: 377 and 198 litres, respectively, when the soft top is closed and open.

The body colours available are Deep Cherry, Bright White, Silver, Black, Mineral Grey and Blackberry. These colours can be combined with two interior shades – black and the two-tone black and white – and two soft top shades, black and beige.

“All inclusive” trim level reflecting stylishness and technological exclusivity

So if “elegance and dynamism” describe the exterior of the new Flavia Cabrio, the guidelines inside are refinement and innovation, in perfect tune with Italian style and the craftsmanship quality that has always distinguished Lancia cars. Aesthetic refinement that flows through the entire passenger compartment and wraps around driver and passengers in a warm “embrace” thanks to the painstaking selection of fine materials, the attention devoted to every minimum detail and the adoption of advanced comfort, safety and driving pleasure features.

The new Flavia Cabrio boasts a sophisticated surrounding that will without a doubt win over a customer who seeks exclusiveness, technology and Italian taste in a car. A new console has been created for him. It has elegant chrome-plated frames and a large central display; a brand new steering wheel wrapped in full-grain leather complete with built-in controls for managing radio, cruise control and mobile phone in total safety; and newly designed seats upholstered in fine leather, complete with practical “active” headrests.

The captivating Lancia Flavia Cabrio is offered in a single, exclusive version that is “all inclusive”. As the name itself intimates, it offers a wealth of standard equipment, from the top quality leather upholstery, electronic stability control (ESC) and electronic traction control, latest-generation ABS and numerous airbags (front multi-stage, side and window bags) to the ISOFIX mountings for transporting children in complete safety, the innovative Uconnect® multimedia system complete with satellite navigation system, Bluetooth and the sophisticated “Boston Acoustics Sound System” that include 6 speakers plus 40GB hard disk (about 6,700 music tracks).

In addition to the features described above we have, and once again standard: dusk sensor, radio controls on the steering wheel, automatic climate control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), soft top that can be operated with remote control, Keyless Entry, heated and electrically adjustable seats, heated and electrically operated door mirrors, electrochromic rear view mirror, and anti-whiplash head restraints.

175 HP 2.4 litre engine and 6-speed automatic transmission

The new Flavia Cabrio is equipped with a 2.4 litre petrol engine combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission that delivers a maximum power of 175 HP at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 225 nm at 4400 rpm.

Thema AWD (“All-Wheel-Drive”)

  • All-wheel drive at the top of its class available from next autumn
  • Combined with 286 HP Pentastar V6 3.6 and e-shift automatic transmission
  • Customise your flagship with the new Lancia Lineaccessori
  • Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ sound system: a feature exclusive for the show-car displayed at the Geneve Motor Show

Having always been a pioneer in the field of technological innovation, Lancia now introduces the new Thema

AWD, themost highly advanced all-wheel drive system of its segment that allows the driver to control the vehicle even in extreme conditions in total safety. The new version will become available starting next autumn for the Platinum and Executive trim levels.

All-wheel drive at the top of its class

The innovative Lancia Thema AWD system automatically deactivates the all-wheel drive whenever it is unnecessary and without the driver’s intervention to totally release the torque onto the rear axle. This maximises fuel savings while however guaranteeing the exceptional performance and handling characteristic of rear-wheel drive. Furthermore, the AWD system automatically switches on during the coldest months of the year, when slipping is detected or when the windscreen wiper sensors detect rain or snow, in order to optimally tackle poor grip surfaces.

Technically sophisticated and completely automated, the Lancia Thema AWD system is therefore also designed to reduce fuel consumption up to 5% less than the permanent four-wheel drive systems. To offer added safety whatever the weather conditions may be, the all-wheel drive Lancia Thema V6 is also fitted with special 19″ wheels with high performance all-season P235/55R19 tyres.

Combined with 286 HP Pentastar V6 3.6 and e-shift automatic transmission

The Lancia Thema all-wheel drive version is combined with the powerful new Chrysler Group 286 HP 3.6 V6 Pentastar petrol engine. It is totally made of aluminium and designed to guarantee volumetric efficiency and optimum combustion at every load level and speed. What results is an exceptionally flat torque curve with high specific power and outstanding driving comfort in all driving conditions.

The V-6 Pentastar is combined with the 8-speed automatic transmission developed by ZF featuring a very quick and fluid gear change due to the extensive total transmission ratio (7.3), short travel (less than 1.5) and gear change time (< 200ms).

Then there are no mechanical connections between the gear shift and transmission, and the selected position is transmitted electronically without the driver having to exert himself.

Customise your flagship with the new Lancia Lineaccessori

To exalt the winning characteristics of the Thema, a new idea of technological perfection “clothed in” Italian elegance and craftsmanship, the customer can choose between the many features that the new Lineaccessori dedicated to the Lancia flagship offers. While fully maintaining its technical, style and mechanical characteristics, the Lancia Thema can be customised with several exclusive products, among which are the 18” and 20” rims and three grilles having different colours and treatments (Thema is the only car of its segment in Europe to offer this latter feature). In the same way, the customer can tastefully and elegantly choose several accessories for his leisure time, including roof rack bars, bicycle racks and the summer box.

Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ sound system: a feature exclusive for the show-car displayed at the Geneve Motor Show

The new Lancia Thema AWD, displayed as show-car, is equipped, for the swiss motor-show only, with the Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ sound system, which is able to recreate the sound experience of a recording studio inside the car.

Three 3.5″ speakers on the dashboard and two 3.5″ speakers in the rear doors develop medium and high tones ideal for a sound quality worthy of a recording studio. Two 6 x 9″ woofers in the front doors control the basses, while two 6 x 9″ speakers and an 8″ station placed in the rear of the car ensure a 360° sound effect.

An 8″ dual voice Beats™ subwoofer in the boot also enhances every music genre to offer Lancia Thema occupants a sound experience never before achieved.

The 2012 collection of the new Lancia Ypsilon

  • A multi-award-winning model praised by the public and international press
  • The range is updated with Italian taste and class
  • The Black&Red trim level is sold in all European markets

Lancia has chosen the Geneva stage to present its Lancia Ypsilon “2012 collection” and to announce the sale of the Black&Red trim level in all European markets. This is the latest news on a model that is enjoying international commercial success and critical acclaim.

A multi-award-winning model praised by the public and international press

The new Lancia Ypsilon 5 is meeting with ever-increasing success amongst consumers and critical acclaim, and proves to be the “Fashion City-Car” par excellence. It continues to charm with its personality, sophisticated style and unconventional class, but it has become more grown up and mature, with a wider appeal. And below this polished exterior bearing the prestigious “Made in Italy” label lies all the substance of a car that boasts cutting-edge technology applied to engines and comfort, which not only delivers reduced emissions and fuel consumption – thanks to technologies such as TwinAir, MultiJet II and Start&Stop – but also offers unparalleled comfort through features of enormous value. Suffice it to say that it is the first and only car in its segment to offer an exclusive combination made up of the brand-new “Blue&Me–TomTomLIVE” and “Smart fuel” system”, in addition to the innovative second-generation Magic Parking, 500 W 360° Hi-Fi Music system, Xenon headlights and LED taillights.

These are precisely the features that customers mostly appreciate when using the new Lancia Ypsilon on a daily basis, the same qualities which have led it to be awarded prestigious prizes by the public and influential panels made up of specialised journalists. These awards include “Car of the Year in Greece” (December 2011), “Car of the Year in Morocco” (January 2012) and “Best Car of 2011”, named by the website AutoAppassionati.it (March 2011). More specifically, the “Car of the Year in Greece” board, consisting of 23 journalists, named the new Lancia Ypsilon “Car of 2012” with 132 votes, choosing it from a short list of ten models launched on the Greek market during the year. It was also successful in Morocco, where a panel of specialised journalists judged the new Lancia Ypsilon to be “Car of the Year 2012” according to several parameters: exterior and interior design, safety and performance on the road. The Lancia Ypsilon recently won second place in the “New Car of the Year Award” ranking, the top car in its segment, which was drawn up by readers of the Italian magazine Quattroruote. Added to these recognitions are the four awards that the TwinAir engine won. The Ypsilon was one of the first Fiat Group cars to adopt this engine (May 2011). In detail, the revolutionary two-cylinder engine surpassed all the other engines of the competitors in all the categories in which it competed in the “International Engine of the Year 2011” contest. The jury, consisting of 76 journalists and industry experts from 36 different countries, not only decreed the success of the TwinAir engine in its own displacement category (less than 1,000 cm3), but elected it “International Engine of the Year 2011”, assigning it the top award in the competition. The TwinAir engine also won the “Best New Engine” and “Best Green Engine” awards.

The range is updated with Italian taste and class

The Ypsilon Diamond show car inspired the “2012 collection. Use of top quality upholstery and a refined body finish created by a unique paint treatment and finish makes it is the most precious “cut” of Lancia’s gem. Presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the car is no mere exercise in styling but a genuine experiment by Lancia to determine some of this luxury content for a possible production model. Precisely that found in the Lancia Ypsilon “2012 collection”.

In detail, the Gold version has a great many new features starting with the “eco-chrome” shade – called that because the effect is achieved by means of a special paint rather than by conventional chrome plating – for several interior components: steering wheel panel, air vents and gear lever knob. The new shade of Beige stands out inside the passenger compartment, enhancing the pillars, roof, sun roof seals, grab handle, sun visors and button panel. Completing the Ypsilon Gold 2012 is the chrome-plated tailpipe and the addition of a few upholsteries that the previous version did not have: Castiglio with the new shade of beige for the central sections of the seats, the black Star fabric for the seat surrounds and the top quality Vintage beige leather for the dashboard surround and door panels. The same new features are found in the top-of-the-range Platinum version, except for the central section of the seats, the dashboard and the panels that are completely upholstered with a top quality beige leather, just like the handbrake lever is covered with leather without openwork.

The Black&Red trim level is sold in all European markets

With the debut of the “2012 collection”, the sale of the new Lancia Ypsilon Black&Red is being extended to all European markets. It is available with the 69 HP 1.2 Fire EVO II, 85 HP 0.9 TwinAir (also available with robotised gearbox) and 95 HP 1.3 Multijet II turbodiesel engines. Offered at the same price as the Gold trim level, this new trim level is designed as an alternative for a younger target that prefers contents associated with sporty style and audio technology, as demonstrated by the 360° Hi-Fi Music system, 15″ alloy rims and the privacy windows. The Ypsilon Black&Red can be “dressed up” by choosing between four body colours (Argilla Red, Vulcano Black, three-layer Fiamma Red and two-tone Argilla Red with Vulcano Black roof) combined with only one youthful and lively interior where the alternating red and black elements stand out.

Finally, the sale of the Ypsilon Black&Red is accompanied by an original communication campaign on various BTL media. In particular, the poster of the “I’ll leave the boredom to you” concept has been made. It shows colourless objects and situations without liveliness, with the final invitation to break away from monotony and choose the Ypsilon Black&Red that by definition and content is not monochrome/monotonous.

The Lancia Voyager’s range has been expanded with the Silver and Platinum trim levels

  • Two new trim levels, two new body colours and a brand-new upholstery
  • A complete range that meets any need
  • Customise your car with the new Lancia Lineaccessori

The Lancia Voyager is extending its range by introducing the Silver and Platinum trim levels, in addition to offering two new colours (Cashmere Pearl and True Blue) and the sophisticated upholstery in leather and Alcantara® for the interiors of the Platinum version.

A complete range that meets any need

Depending on the market, the Lancia Voyager range is made up of three trim levels (Silver, Gold and Platinum) and two engines: the 163 HP 2.8L Euro 5 turbo diesel and the 283 HP 3.6L V6 Pentastar petrol engine. A wealth of standard equipment is common to all trim levels, including 17″ diamond-finish alloy wheels and roof rails (black on the Gold trim level and chrome-plated on the Platinum trim level), while the front and rear seats upholstered in top quality leather stand out inside the passenger compartment (the heating function and electrically-controlled adjustment are also offered on the Gold and Platinum trim levels). The steering wheel with audio controls and gear lever knob are also upholstered in leather.

The Voyager’s interior was conceived as a cozy and comfortable living room. It is at the same time sturdy and flexible owing to the Stow’n Go – which is standard on the entire range – patented by Chrysler that allows the second and third rows of seats to be stowed away inside the floor, delivering a record capacity of 4,100 litres. One distinguishing feature of the Platinum trim level is the possibility to fold down the third row seats with the electric control.

Completing the standard equipment of the new Lancia Voyager, depending on the trim level and the market, are more than 40 active and passive safety features (ESC, 6 airbags, cruise control, fog lights, automatic headlights, Blind Spot and Cross Path detection and active pedestrian protection). There are also many contents that guarantee maximum comfort on board and travelling pleasure, including the automatic three-zone climate control system, electric adjustments of seats and pedals, and the U-ConnectTM hands-free system with iPod/MP3 that integrates the navigation function and the rear camera for parking assistance. The door mirrors (heated), side doors and tailgate are also electrically adjustable. The sound system with nine speakers, a subwoofer and up to 506 W of total power is standard on the Platinum trim level. Even when it comes to music performance, the Lancia Voyager has everything it takes to accompany every trip with one’s favourite thrills.

Customise your car with the new Lancia Lineaccessori

The benchmark in the segment of large MPVs, the new Lancia Voyager boasts impressive size matched by a spacious, refined passenger compartment distinguished by superior quality materials. To satisfy a customer that wants to personalise his car even more, Lineaccessori offers elements that exalt both the elegant design – for example the 17″ rims, chrome-plated running board and side footboard – and the ability to enjoy leisure time to the utmost. In particular, an absolutely new product in the segment is available: an exclusive tent (3×3 metres) that connects with the open tailgate. Then if the seats of the second and third rows are folded down, the total interior space (tent + passenger compartment) is extraordinary, totalling about 13,000 litres. The tent can naturally be used apart from the vehicle.

Exclusive pack for those seeking elegance and driving comfort

Available starting this spring for the entire Lancia range beginning with the Gold trim level of all models, the pack, inspired from “Dolce vita”, offers a few of the technological contents that best ensure comfortable and stress-free driving in addition to a sense of on-board wellbeing as standard.

Specifically, the pack for the new Lancia Ypsilon offers Cruise Control, privacy windows, the second-generation Magic Parking system and rain sensors, while the pack for the Lancia Musa includes Cruise Control, radio controls on the steering wheel and lumbar adjustment on the front seats. The contents of the pack for Lancia Voyager offer are different as well (rain sensor, chrome-plated door handles, Keyless Entry/Go and DVD entertainment system), and those of the Lancia Thema include the 506 W Alpine Premium Hi-Fi system with 9 speakers and Safety Tech pack). Lastly, the Lancia Delta has the standard features of Instant Nav navigation system, Magic Parking automatic parking system, electrochromic rear-view mirror, rain sensor and automatically operated headlamps.

In short, this pack provides a different way of conceiving car use. It is no longer a simple means of transportation, but a daily experience to be relished with taste and elegance. It is not by chance that the pack is reminiscent of the years of the “Dolce vita”, an extraordinary period in Italy which led to what the world knows today as Italian Glamour. The “dolce vita” is indeed associated with the values that constitute the identity and charm of Italy, such as the elegance of everyday life, the quality of foods and wines, taste, imagination and “knowing how to live the good life”. But class and elegance are first and foremost. The same Italian elegance that driver and passengers alike notice every time they get inside a Lancia.
