London/England, March, 2011 Harris Tweed has been described as “the Champagne of fabrics” and is the only fabric in the world governed by its own * Act of Parliament.
Hand woven by the islanders on the Isles of Harris, Lewis, Uist and Barra in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, using local wool, Harris Tweed is one of the most traditional and rustic of fabrics.
And only Afzal Kahn himself would have the foresight to combine the subtle Harris Tweed flecks characterized by subtle flecks of colour achieved through the use of vegetable dyes, including lichen dyes called ‘crottle’ with the principal British designer’s blend of innovation, history and design.
