Market launch of the Passat Alltrack

Offroad-capable Volkswagen with new offroad look closes the gap between passenger car and SUV

Wolfsburg, 23 March 2012 – The Passat Alltrack is at dealers starting today. Compared to a conventional Passat Estate, the new model – which crosses between the passenger car and SUV worlds – not only sports an independent exterior; it is also equipped with the Offroad driving programme. Until now, this feature was exclusively reserved for SUVs like the Tiguan and Touareg.

Visually, the Passat Alltrack already distances itself from its conventional ‘brothers’ by ‘Valley’ 17-inch alloy wheels, which convey an image of increased solidity and high-end quality. The car is also distinguished by matte chrome window surrounds, door mirror housings and radiator grille. Silver roof rails, underbody protection, fog lights and the ‘Alltrack’ signatures at the front and rear clearly identify it as the offroad version of the Passat. Its engineering design is also different. The Passat Alltrack now also scores in offroad driving performance thanks to increased ramp and approach angles and ground clearance (gain of 30 mm). The engine is protected by a solid underbody guard made of steel plate.

The engine line-up for this vehicle includes two turbocharged TSI engines with 118 kW / 160 PS and 155 kW / 210 PS and two TDI engines that produce 103 kW / 140 PS and 125 kW / 170 PS of power. Both TDIs are BlueMotion Technology versions with a Stop/Start system and battery regeneration (recovery of braking energy). The models with the most powerful engine versions are equipped with permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive and DSG as standard; Volkswagen offers all-wheel drive as an option for the Passat Alltrack with the 140 PS TDI. Prices for the Passat Alltrack start at 33,450 euros for the petrol version with 118 kW / 160 PS.
