Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited, Jeep Wrangler Mountain and Jeep Compass Black Edition

Jeep enhances the European lineup and introduces in the second half of 2012 new trim lines and limited-edition vehicles for Wrangler, Compass and Grand Cherokee. New Mountain limited-edition model of the iconic Jeep Wrangler pays tribute to performance and outdoor enthusiasts. The significantly positive consumer interest in the Compass and Grand Cherokee concept cars showcased at the latest Geneva Motor Show, confirms production and drives creation of the all-new Jeep Compass Black Edition special-edition model and the S Limited trim line of the brand’s flagship.

After the renewal of the entire lineup and the commercial successes recorded in Europe in 2011, Jeep consolidates its product portfolio and introduces a new trim line and two limited-edition vehicles in the European market: the new models were developed to meet the requests of customers looking for unique cars combining a distinctive look with the legendary capabilities of the American brand.

New lineup ‘animation vehicles’ for Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee will contribute to enhance the Jeep portfolio in Europe in the second half of 2012. New models introduction will further highlight that innovation and stylistic exploration belong to the American brand.

Starting June, Jeep will introduce the new Jeep Wrangler Mountain: showcased in European première at the latest Geneva Motor Show, the new limited-edition model of the iconic Wrangler was engineered for those people who actively practice the outdoors. Jeep Wrangler Mountain will be followed by two all-new Jeep models developed exclusively for Europe: the new limited-edition Jeep Compass Black Edition that will arrive in Jeep dealerships at the end of August and the new S Limited trim line of the brand’s flagship Grand Cherokee, debuting in September.

All-new Black Edition and S Limited models combine a variety of exterior design changes to create unique models boasting distinctive, sporty appeal. Confirmation of their introduction in the Jeep lineup is the result of an overwhelmingly positive consumer response received by the Compass and Grand Cherokee production-intent concepts revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Jeep brand officially announces introduction of the new S Limited trim line in the Grand Cherokee lineup

The Jeep brand confirms production of the production-intent sports concept showcased at the latest Geneva Motor Show and announces its introduction in Europe with the name ‘S Limited’. New trim line of the Jeep flagship combines stand-out from the crowd exterior design and sporty appeal with the efficiency of the 3.0-litre V-6 CRD engine fitted with Multijet II technology, delivering 241 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque (440 Nm of torque with the available 190 hp version of the 3.0-litre). One-of-a-kind black-gloss 20-inch alloy wheels, distinctive styling cues and ‘Black’ exterior treatments create the aggressive and muscular look of new S Limited Jeep Grand Cherokee. Introduction in European Jeep dealerships will follow in September.

Three months after its reveal at the latest Geneva Motor Show and following a very positive consumer response, the Jeep brand confirms production in Europe of the Jeep Grand Cherokee production-intent sports concept as new trim line in the range of its flagship.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee trim line will be available exclusively for Jeep customers in Europe where it will be launched with the name S Limited in the month of September.

Showcased to the public in Geneva as a design study developed to explore the stylistic potential of the Jeep flagship, the new S Limited model boasts a unique trim that adds to the premium design of Jeep Grand Cherokee distinctive styling cues and Black accents. The result: a Grand Cherokee boasting a new aggressive flair and combining exclusive sporty appeal to the efficiency of the new 3.0-litre V-6 turbo-diesel engine with Multijet II technology, with a plethora of advanced active safety features fitted as standard.

The exterior features a more streamlined appearance thanks to the introduction of new roof molding covers that replace the roof rack. The vehicle’s grille surround appears in black gloss and mesh grille texture in platinum chrome. A platinum chrome lower fascia applique´ completes the unique front-end appearance. Black headlamp bezels, black liftgate light-bar and black chrome dual exhaust tips continue the “blacked-out” theme throughout the vehicle’s exterior. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited rides on 20-inch tires that surround black-gloss aluminum wheels to enhance the vehicle’s aggressive appearance.

The interior of the new S Limited features a leather-wrapped perforated heated steering wheel and ventilated sports-styled Nappa leather and suede seats. Real carbon fiber accents are integrated into the instrument panel and door trim panels. Bright, racing style brake and pedal pads add to the sporty, performance-oriented look inside the cabin.

Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited is powered by the efficient 3.0-litre V-6 turbo-diesel engine with new-generation, 1.800-bar injectors and Multijet II technology developed and patented by Fiat Powertrain. The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine produces maximum power of 241 hp at 4,000 rpm and torque of 550 Nm at 1,800-2,800 rpm and is paired to the five-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select (ERS). The 3.0-litre CRD powertrain is also offered in a low-output version, with 190 hp of power at 4,000 rpm and 440 Nm of torque across 1,600-2,800 rpm.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited is equipped with Quadra-Trac II® 4×4 system with two-speed transfer case and Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) on both the front and rear axle to ensure benchmark off-road capability. Quadra-Trac II’s two-speed transfer case uses the inputs coming from a variety of sensors in order to determine tire slip at the earliest possible time and take corrective actions. The system uses Throttle Anticipate to sense quick movement in the throttle from a stop and maximizes traction before slippage occurs. When tire slippage is detected, 100-percent of the available torque is instantly routed to the axle with the most traction. Ultimate on-road and off-road capabilities are accomplished through the assistance of the Quadra-LiftTM air-suspension system with five height settings granting the possibility to change the ride height from 16.5 to 27 cm of ground clearance, the Selec-TerrainTM traction control system with five different terrain settings, the standard Hill Descent Control, for maximum downhill control, and Hill Start Assist, allowing a smooth launch on a grade.

The standard equipment for on-board comfort and infotainment offers the latest technology and aims at transforming every journey in an absolute pleasure. In addition to the advanced UConnect® multimedia infotainment and navigation system with 6.5-inches touchscreen, 30 gigabyte hard disk, USB compatibility, AUX port, DVD video and voice activated Bluethooth UConnect Phone, the new S Limited model offers exclusive Command View®dual-pane panoramic sunroof and a state-of-the-art audio surround-sound system from Harman Kardon®. This 825-watt, 19-speaker, 1 subwoofer premium audio system offers world premier innovation. The system features a 32-volt TPS (Tracking Power Supply) 12-channel amplifier that delivers outstanding acoustics and brings multi-dimensional, quality sound for all passengers.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited features a vast array of advanced safety and security features, that further highlight that technological innovation belongs to the DNA of the Jeep flagship. In addition to the standard safety equipment including Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Electronic Rollover Mitigation (ERM), ABS with off-road calibration, Brake Traction Control System (BTCS) and 7 airbags (front seat, sidebags, side-curtain front and rear, seat-mounted), the new S Limited model offers the following premium safety features: Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-path detection. These advanced safety features assist the driver thanks to the following characteristics:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control: the system decreases the vehicle’s pre-set cruise-control speed when closing in on another vehicle in the same lane, or when another vehicle pulls into the same lane. The system will accelerate to the pre-set speed when the vehicle in front speeds up or moves into another lane.
  • Forward Collision Warning: using forward-facing radar sensors, this system detects when the vehicle may be approaching another vehicle too rapidly and alerts the driver so the driver can determine what action must be taken in order to prevent the vehicle from a collision;
  • Blind Spot Detection: the system uses dual ultra-wideband radar sensors to aid the driver when changing lanes, or if being passed by or passing unseen vehicles. The system notifies the driver of vehicle(s) in their blind spot via illuminated icons on the sideview mirror and with a driver-selected audible chime;
  • Rear Cross-path detection: in parking lot situations, this system warns drivers backing out of parking spaces of traffic moving toward their vehicle. It activates any time the vehicle is in Reverse. The driver is notified of vehicle(s) crossing behind the vehicle via illuminated icons on the sideview mirror and with a driver-selected audible chime.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited will complete the lineup available in Europe expressing the values of freedom, adventure, authenticity, passion and uniqueness of the brand. The Jeep flagship is powered by the 3.0-liter direct-injection V-6 Common Rail diesel engine capable of producing 241 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque and featuring Multijet II Technology and three petrol engine options: the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 producing 286 hp and 347 Nm of torque, the 5.7-liter V-8 with Multi Displacement System (MDS) delivering 352 hp and 520 Nm of torque and the all-new powerful 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine with Fuel Saver Technology, producing 468 hp and 624 Nm of torque. A 190 hp and 440 Nm of torque version of the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is also standard on all Laredo models (optional on Limited).

Jeep® Wrangler Mountain: the new special edition-model for outdoor enthusiasts

Jeep introduces the new Jeep Wrangler Mountain special-edition model: adventure and passion for the outdoors combine with the off-road capability, reliability and security offered by the iconic Wrangler. Jeep Wrangler Mountain is powered by the efficient 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission and the recently introduced 3.6-litre V-6 Pentastar matched to a five-speed automatic gearbox. The new limited-edition model will arrive in European Jeep dealerships in the first half of June in both two- and four-door versions.

Building on the success of the recently introduced Jeep Wrangler Arctic special-series, Jeep launches a new limited-edition model of the iconic Wrangler: the Jeep Wrangler Mountain.

With a unique exterior and interior design enhanced by exclusive styling cues, 17-inch wheels and authentic accessories by Mopar®, the new special-edition model is the vehicle for those who want to stand out in the open spaces. By expressing the endless possibilities of customization of the iconic Wrangler, the new Mountain edition pays tribute to those who actively practice the outdoors. With the ‘Mountain’ theme recalled by the name of the vehicle, the brand also wants to underline that thanks to benchmark technology and unmatched off-road expertise the iconic Wrangler is capable of overcoming the most demanding trails and the most challenging driving conditions.

Based on the Sport trim line, Jeep Wrangler Mountain will be available on both two-and four-door versions. Exterior features include a unique Black decal on the hood, front Mineral Gray grille and painted high-gloss Mineral Gray 17-inch wheels. Additional features are the ‘Mountain’ decal over part of the hood with latitude and longitude coordinates familiar to outdoor enthusiasts, side steps and black fuel-filler door from Mopar.

The interior features fabric seats with Slate Grey stitching and embroidered ‘Mountain logo’. Mopar treatment in the cabin consists of tread-pattern slush mats and grab handles.

Exterior colors for the new Mountain limited-edition model are the all-new Gecko that joins the Black, Bright White, Dozer and Black Forrest Green already available in the Wrangler lineup.

Introduction in the European markets of the Jeep Wrangler Mountain will start in June. New limited-edition model will be powered by the efficient 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine producing 200 horsepower at 3,600 rpm, 460 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,600 rpm when paired to a five-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select (ERS) and 410 Nm when matched with a six-speed manual gearbox. The new Jeep Wrangler Mountain will also be available with the new 3.6-litre V-6 petrol engine delivering 284 horsepower and 347 Nm of torque, matched to the automatic five-speed transaxle with ERS.

Engineered to master the most challenging off-road tracks, Jeep Wrangler Mountain features an enhanced Dana 30 front axle and Dana 44 rear axle. Legendary Jeep off-road capability is achieved through the standard Command-Trac® NV241 part-time, two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio.

This 4×4 system operates on three modes: 2WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low. In normal driving conditions, Command-Trac® operates in two wheel drive (2WD) and transfers 100 percent of engine torque to the rear axle. In the 4WD High mode, the system splits the torque with a 50/50 ratio between the two axles. The 4WD High provides more torque and traction on the single axles and is to be used only when driving on slippery surfaces, such as on sand, snow, mud or rocks.
The 4WD Low is ideal when driving on extremely challenging and demanding off-road tracks and provides a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio that multiplies the engine torque on both axles.

Jeep Wrangler Mountain accomplishes ultimate off-road capabilities through the assistance of standard Hill Descent Control (equipped only with the automatic transmission), for maximum downhill control, and standard Hill Start Assist, which prevents rollback on a graded surface.

The equipment for driver’s and passengers’ on-board comfort adds to the standard equipment of the Sport trim line a leather-wrapped steering-wheel with integrated controls, Mopar slush floor mats and Mopar grab handles. The optional equipment offers the Dual Top configuration (i.e. the possibility to have both the soft and hardtop options), the Uconnect® multimedia infotainment system and the new Winter & Sound Group package, including front heated seats and premium 368-watt, 6-speaker Infinity audio system.

Jeep Wrangler is the original and authentic 4×4 that expresses the unconventional soul of the American brand by combining exceptional off-road capabilities with the driving enjoyment offered by a unique vehicle in the automotive industry. Undisputed off-road champion, Jeep Wrangler is appreciated worldwide for its outstanding off-road capabilities and its unique personality.

The Jeep Wrangler lineup is available in three trim levels: Sport, Sahara and Rubicon (in some European markets the lineup also offers the limited-edition model Jeep Wrangler Arctic). All are powered by the efficient 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine paired to a five-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Range Select (ERS) and a six-speed manual gearbox and by the recently introduced 3.6-litre V-6 petrol powertrain matched with a five-speed automatic transmission. The same trim lines and powertrains are available on the four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. When matched to the six-speed manual transmission, the 2.8-litre turbo diesel equipped on both Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features standard fuel-saving Stop/Start technology.

Welcomed with unprecedented interest by the public attending the latest Geneva Motor Show, where the vehicle was introduced as production-intent concept, the new Jeep Compass Black Edition receives an official place in the Compass lineup. The new limited-edition model boasts a new sporty flair and unique Black look in order to provide a more distinctive appearance and personality to the Urban compact SUV of the Jeep family. New limited-edition model combines a variety of styling cues and functional elements including black-gloss front-end accents to create a unique vehicle with exclusive ‘from the factory’ customized look.

The iconic, seven-slot Jeep front grille boasts black-gloss inserts that combine to black-gloss headlamp and fog lamp surrounds. A black-gloss treatment characterizes also the roof rails and step pads. Special 18-inch black-gloss aluminium wheels reinforce the aggressive look of the vehicle.

Jeep Compass Black Edition will be available in the four-wheel-drive configuration matched to the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 163 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Benchmark off-road capability in its category is provided by the full-time, active Freedom Drive I four-wheel-drive system featuring Lock mode. The system is designed to give drivers year-round assurance with the ability to handle rough weather and low-traction conditions as well as slick roads that come with rain and light snow.

Compact flagship of the Jeep brand, Compass combines SUV features and functionality with performance, handling and fuel efficiency. Completely redesigned in 2011, Jeep Compass boasts a new stylish exterior, an upgraded, high quality interior compartment, improved ride and handling, new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine available in both low-and high output versions and a 2WD drivetrain option alongside the proven Freedom Drive I four-wheel drive configuration that highlights its dual nature: 4×4 capability and on-road driving comfort.

Two trim levels are available for Jeep Compass: Sport and Limited. Both are equipped with the efficient 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine fitted on both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive Compass models. Low-output version of the 2.2-litre turbo diesel producing 136 hp is available on front-wheel-drive Compass models only. The two-wheel-drive configuration is also available on models powered by the 2.0-litre petrol engine. 2.0-litre completes with the available 2.4-litre engine the Jeep Compass engine lineup offered in Europe.

The Jeep brand

The Jeep brand boasts today a global brand reputation with vehicles distributed in more than 120 countries around the world. Jeep builds on five core values: freedom, adventure, authenticity, passion and uniqueness: freedom as a state of mind and individual determination to follow one’s own instincts with the confidence of being able to undertake any challenge thanks to benchmark off-road capabilities and to live everyday experience with the safety granted by advanced 4×4 systems. Adventure as a vocation. Authenticity that belongs to the original brand that pioneered the outdoors and became clear leader, but also the ability to offer performances that transform the driving experience into an extraordinary event. Passion as the impulse to bring one’s individuality strongly and distinctively to the fore. Uniqueness that comes from the ability to distinguish oneself thanks to features that are absolutely unmistakable

A brand boasting an extraordinary personality, Jeep has always been able to reinvent itself to offer innovative products that set the benchmark for an entire category of vehicles: from the brand’s iconic, Jeep Wrangler to the compact SUV Jeep Compass, every Jeep model tells of a legend made of extraordinary journeys and a seven-decade long passion for the outdoors.

The first Jeep vehicle rolled off the line on July 15th, 1941: it was the military Willys-Overland, forefather to the first civilian Jeep, the CJ-2A. Since this milestone date more than 15 million Jeeps have been produced and distributed worldwide.

In 2011, Jeep global sales increased by 41% compared to 2010 and today, Jeep is Chrysler Group’s top selling brand in markets outside North America, comprising 63% of the Company’s international sales.

Jeep in Europe

The Jeep lineup available in Europe includes Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Jeep Compass. In 2011, all these models were completely renewed and received significant updates.

2011 was also a very important year for Jeep: growth was strong and constant throughout the year in Europe and the brand accomplished excellent sales results. With almost 24,000 vehicles registered for the full year, Jeep posted a 61.8% increase in sales and doubled market share to 0.2%. Sales were up in almost all European markets. The most significant performances were registered in Italy – where sales increased almost 118% and market share reached 0.5%- as well as in Germany (+71.7%), in France (+124%), in the UK (+3.3%) and in Spain (+21.2%).

Jeep’s growth trend continues in 2012: in the first four months, Jeep sales increased 51.7% in comparison with the same period in 2011, totaling 9,800 registered units. Market share is at 0.2%. Excellent sales results were registered in almost all European markets: besides the sales exploit registered in Germany, where sales were up 165.2%, Jeep strongly increased its sales in France (+84.5%) and in Spain (+7.6%).

Jeep milestones

1949: with the Jeep Station Wagon, the brand fitted an all-wheel drive system on a station wagon vehicle thus introducing the concept of Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). 1963: with the Jeep Wagoneer, Jeep invented the premium SUV segment. 1984: with the first generation Jeep Cherokee, Jeep created the compact SUV segment. 1993: Jeep reinvented the premium Sport-Utility Vehicle segment with the introduction of Jeep Grand Cherokee and set with the first generation of its flagship model a new standard for craftsmanship and refinement in the premium SUV market.

The story of the Jeep brand is marked by continuous evolution. Jeep was born almost 71 years ago to answer the military needs of the U.S. Army: the first 4×4 Jeep vehicle rolled off the line on July 15th 1941. This was the military Willys-Overland, forefather to the first civilian Jeep, that was mass produced in 1945 and is universally considered the first modern off-roader of the automotive industry. Since then, the Jeep brand responds to the mobility needs of its customers and anticipates the trends of the market. In 1949, with the application of the four-wheel-drive to an all-steel-body station wagon, Jeep invented the first Sport Utility Vehicle and created a new market segment still collecting – after more than 60 years since its introduction – a very positive consumers response.

With the Jeep Wagoneer launched in 1963, Jeep further evolved the concept of SUV and introduced the first premium Sport Utility Vehicle. Besides being the first 4×4 vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission, the Wagoneer featured a modern, elegant and functional body and it was the perfect choice for any kind of usage: it was perfectly at home in the city as well as on the trails. First premium SUV of the automotive history, the Jeep Wagoneer is considered the predecessor of today’s Grand Cherokee.

In 1984, with the launch of the Cherokee model, Jeep introduced a further element of innovation in the market and created the first compact SUV: the all-new unibody frame gave the vehicle superior rigidity, reduced weight and fuel consumption thus offering the same cargo space of the Wagoneer. Combining off-road capability and on-road driving comfort, the 1984 Cherokee is considered the forefather of the Jeep compact SUV lineup.

In 1993, Jeep reinvented the SUV segment created in 1949 and introduced the first generation of the flagship Grand Cherokee. In the following years, this model set the new standard in terms of design, craftsmanship and performances in the premium SUV market. With the next three generations of Jeep Grand Cherokee – introduced in 1999, 2005 and 2010 – the American brand enhanced its flagship with new technical features and further improved its on-road comfort and off-road capabilities.
