Η Dodge έδωσε ακόμη ένα teaser video του Challenger SRT Demon το οποίο για πρώτη φορά σε αυτοκίνητο παραγωγής, διαθέτει ένα σύστημα εκκίνησης που ελέγχει την ροπή του κινητήρα, έτσι ώστε, σε συνδυασμό με τα drag ελαστικά Nitto, να χαρίζει αστραπιαίες εκκινήσεις χωρίς σπινιαρίσματα, πετυχαίνοντας εξαιρετικούς χρόνους στο 400αρι.

Ο τρόπος λειτουργίας του συστήματος είναι σχετικά απλός. Η βαλβίδα παράκαμψης του κομπρέσορα κλείνει, γεμίζοντας τον, με τον εγκέφαλο του αυτοκινήτου, προκειμένου να εξισορροπήσει τις στροφές του κινητήρα και την ροπή, να ρυθμίζει ανάλογα την ροή του καυσίμου σε επιλεγμένους κυλίνδρους και τον χρονισμό ανάφλεξης των μπουζί. Τα παραπάνω κάνουν τον ήχο που βγαίνει από την εξάτμιση του αυτοκινήτου να είναι πολύ διαφορετικός από αυτόν που έχουμε συνηθίσει να ακούμε, με την Dodge να τον χαρακτηρίζει πως ακούγεται λες και ο κινητήρας έχει χαλάσει.

Σύμφωνα με το προηγούμενο teaser, το αυτοκίνητο φαίνεται να αποδίδει 757 άλογα, με τα 0-96 χλμ/ώρα να τα κάνει σε 3 δευτερόλεπτα, τα 0-161 χλμ/ώρα σε 6,08, το 200αρι το κάνει σε 6,6 δευτερόλεπτα με ταχύτητα 201 χλμ/ώρα, ενώ το 400αρι το κάνει σε 10,5 δευτερόλεπτα.

Το αυτοκίνητο συμμετείχε στα γυρίσματα του Fast and Furious 8, ενώ είναι μέρος και του επίσημου video clip του soundtrack της ταινίας. This week’s release couldn’t be more fitting of Dodge’s “If you know, you know” tagline, because “if you know” you will hear extreme performance, but those who don’t will think something is wrong with the engine. The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s unique exhaust note is the result of an advanced torque reserve launch system – the first ever designed for a drag race application on a production car.

What is torque reserve? In plain English, it lets more air flow through the engine before launch, allowing for increased supercharger rpm without torque overwhelming the brakes and spinning the rear tires.

In the Challenger SRT Demon, torque reserve kicks in when Launch Mode is active and engine rpm is greater than 1,000.

Torque reserve does two things: It closes the bypass valve on the supercharger, “prefilling” the supercharger

It manages fuel flow to cylinders and changes spark timing. To balance engine rpm and torque, the Challenger SRT Demon’s powertrain controller will briefly cut fuel flow to selected cylinders. This creates the noticeable change in the exhaust tone. The controller also advances or retards the ignition timing to fine-tune the engine rpm/torque balance

With torque reserve managing the engine output, the supercharged HEMI® engine can build boost pressure before leaving the starting line and reach maximum boost pressure quicker, taking full advantage of the SRT Demon’s increased weight transfer and increased contact patch drag radials to reduce 60-foot times.
