Η BMW επέλεξε να εξοπλίσει ένα εργοστάσιο της Takata στη Γερμανία, ώστε να κατασκευάζονται εκεί οι νέοι αερόσακοι που θα αντικαταστήσουν τους προβληματικούς των μοντέλων της BMW, αλλά η Honda πήρε τη μεγάλη απόφαση και άλλαξε προμηθευτή αερόσακων. Η Honda ανακοίνωσε πως συνεργάζεται με την Autoliv ώστε η δεύτερη να κατασκευάσει τους αερόσακους εκείνους θα αντικαταστήσουν τους ελαττωματικούς της Takata στα μοντέλα της Honda.
Η απόφαση πάρθηκε λόγω του αργού ρυθμού παραγωγής νέων αερόσακων από τη Takata, που σήμερα κατασκευάζει 200 αερόσακους την ώρα σε κάθε γραμμή παραγωγής, και με μόλις 2 γραμμές σε χρήση, σημαίνει πως με τον σημερινό ρυθμό, είναι σε θέση να κατασκευάσει 1 εκατ. αερόσακους μέσα σε διάστημα πέντε μηνών. Φαντάσου λοιπόν πόσο χρόνο χρειάζεται για να κατασκευάσει 32 εκατ. αερόσακους, όσα δηλαδή είναι και τα αυτοκίνητα που ανακάλεσαν οι εταιρίες. Οι παραδόσεις των αερόσακων της Autoliv για τα μοντέλα της Honda θα ξεκινήσουν σε έξι μήνες.

Autoliv to supply replacement airbag inflators to be used by Honda
(Stockholm, December 3, 2014) – – – Autoliv, Inc. (NYSE: ALV, and SSE: ALIV sdb), the worldwide leader in automotive safety, will supply replacement airbag inflators to be used by Honda Motor Company in support of the ongoing field action initiatives in the United States.
The agreement is made in order to meet the expanded supply of inflators needed by Honda and is subject to definitive documentation. In order to be able to meet increased demand, Autoliv will build additional inflator capacity in its existing manufacturing facilities. Deliveries are estimated to commence after a period of about six months from today.
