Metro Cell Vehicle

In the year 2015, Metro Los Angeles presents an innovative one person semi-private vehicle system, which is called PDD (pickup-drive-drop). This car will be America’s next iconic vehicle. With the PDD system, people can expect more efficient travel in one of the busiest cities in the world. The concept is simple. A driver finds a cellular-mobile stack, picks up a vehicle and drives it anywhere in the area. Once they reach their final destination, they drop it off without any transferring. Like a shopping cart in the supermarket, they just need to drop it at the nearest mobile stack. So, whenever you need a vehicle, simply go to your closest cell-mobile-stack. This system will be operated by the city, but driven by each user.

Phoenix

The PHOENIX is a modern interpretation of the American way of life where freedom, strength, environmental awareness and flexibility are blended in a unique symbiosis between man and machine.

Inspired by both the American Muscle cars and the Americans favorite vehicle; The Pick-up Truck, the PHOENIX is a 2-seater car, that is both agile and tough. A mid-ship engine placed right behind the cabin and four-wheel-drive provides balance, grip and a low center of gravity.

Powered by a Flexi-Fuel V8 Engine, the PHOENIX is environmentally friendly, without compromising performance. Furthermore, the body panels are made from bio-composite materials that can be easily recycled and the substructure is made from recycled aluminium. To enhance the safety of the occupants, the passenger compartment is enclosed by a safety cell made from reinforced bio-polymers. Additional protection is given by the roll-bars/arches behind each seat.

Last but not least, the PHOENIX features an Orbital Omni-directional four-wheel-drive system which allows for several types of motion. For example; rotation around its own axis and it can move sideways.
The name PHOENIX is inspired by the American Bald Eagle, but also from the place where the two designers met, as the PHOENIX is the insignia of the city and of Coventry University.

Concept SSS

Concept SsS is the new icon for America. It combines elements and tradition from the past with ultra-modern techology.

The overall volume of the car is similar to past iconic vehicles: long hood, set back cabin position and short tail. The surface treatment is clean and the shape of the car is created with very few lines running along the car. These lines divide the body into surfaces and different materials. The body is as clean as possible, much like a traditional muscle-car: even the headlights are hidden behind the grill so they are invisibile when not illuminated. The shape and detailing enchances power and strength. Some characteristics include a wedge-shaped nose with lower air intakes, an engine air intake on the hood, a widening body and big shoulder over the rear wheel and huge exhaust pipes on the rear.

Under the hood is a new generation engine. It works with pure hydrogen which is stored as liquid under pressure, and when used it is chanelled into a traditional V8 internal combustion engine. It provides extra power respect to gasoline and pure technology as the exhaust gas is steam only. The drivetrain powers up the bigger diameter rear wheels.

The body has dual-structure. The side and roof show the honeycomb carbon-fiber structure of the car, which is the main structural frame to protect the passengers inside. The green areas are soft plastic panels which absorb energy at smaller impacts. The whole wedge-shaped front part is really soft, energy absorbent foam for pedestrian safety.

The wheels unify the wheel spokes with tires as they run from the center and then divide into rubber ribs to give the tread the shape and softness needed without the use of air-pressure.
So thus SsS is brave, bold and ready for the challenge(r)s of today and tomorrow.

Frem FR1

According to Frem, his creation is based on a specific task reflecting his personality.

Working on such a task took two years of research and development and after that time, a prototype was born- ready for the Michelin Design Challenge. With the attraction of inferno color, mixed with the technology and creativity, the Frem prototype is presented.

The lines of the Frem prototype are aerodynamically sculpted with a panoramic glass roof, equipped with four high resolution cameras for better view around the vehicle.

A fire system in the engine room is built to protect the passenger if there are any electrical failures that may cause fires. There also is an emergency button for an immediate seat belt release in case of a malfunction. The body of the prototype is made of carbon fiber and has an aluminum chassis for less weight and more speed.

The Frem prototype also includes a Xenon head light with led lamps for the rear light (faster than the ordinary lamp in alerting the driver behind); a night vision cam with sensor’s; 22’’ carbon fiber rims equipped with a low profile tire; independent suspension for better stability and traction; front and rear rotors and calipers Brembo brakes and six airbags for maximum safety.

Softcar

In a future where a GPS Satellite System will control and drive all kinds of transports, (public and private) accidents will be avoided. Aparacio proposes a SOFT vehicle since there is no need to protect passengers from collisions.

The material chosen for the exterior of this Soft Vehicle is the EVA foam, a recyclable material. Its appearance is similar to the neoprene or rubber, exists in lots of densities and can be colorized. Because of its properties, it is able to be Vacuum Formed even permitting negative surfaces. This material gives us the possibility to have a shape that maintains the position itself without any external structure, being soft. If you deform it after pressing it, it goes back to the original shape.

With a simple cut on the surface we will obtain the door to enter into the vehicle. Just opening the cut we will obtain the space to go in, and when we leave, the surface will go back to its place, due to the material properties it will keep the shape.

In terms of the interior, it follows a passenger’s body when they sit. It is full of a kind of jelly that permits maximum comfort.

A private vehicle proposed for those who appreciate individuality and privacy. A vehicle where interior and exterior will be understood in a different way, where the relation between them will change from what we have nowadays. The interior becomes the most important part containing the wheels that contain the engine and the passengers, and supporting the soft exterior. The exterior will contain the control panels to communicate with the system.

The SOFT private vehicle is one that will use an ecological method to produce the power to move. Because it moves inside a System, even able to interfere in it and its movement, the most honest way for this vehicle to get the power is through the System. Because of this, the road, as part of the System, will contain the energy that the wheels will get by electromagnetic induction. It is also a way to get more security because with this contact the system will get the information by two different ways; through signal waves/frequency as well as physically reducing the possibilities of error. The energy for propulsion is taken from the front wheels, and fibers will conduct it into power for the interior, and it will go back to the system by the rear wheels. Tires are covered by the exterior soft surface to emphasize their own importance. The exterior is soft therefore it will deform allowing the wheels steer. The System has no end as GPS has no limit, so you will be able to move to wherever the road leads.

Nebula

The American car is unmistakably one of the most unique species in the world. As a symbol of American society, these cars play a vital role in everyday life. And many of them make for a powerful connection and a much richer experience than the others. They will completely charm and disarm anyone who sets eyes on them.

Meanwhile, modern vehicle demands for better economic and safety measures, leads to changes in every aspect of car design. The nebula is a car for the average rich group for long distance travelling.

Many of the design features indicate the cultural heritage from classic American cars, like the low wide windshield. And to make up for the driver’s visibility, the cabin is surrounded by LCD screens, which uses argument reality technology.

With larger wheels, the car can reduce vibration and improve fuel efficiency. And with the luggage trunk located at the front of the vehicle, this car has a longer front buffer area and more aggressive proportion.

Packard

When I began my project, I searched the history of American cars and found tradition, innovation and quality. The inspiration from these values is what led me to reference the Packard cars.

In 1916, Packard introduced the first V12 engine in massive production and in the Second World War, Packard produced airplane engines.

Do you remember the old airplane engines? I propose a modified version with articulate connecting rods to reduce the external size of a big block engine; a Super V12 cylinder in 3 banks of 4 cylinders.

Do you remember the whitewall tires? I propose a PAX system with supplementary external hoops of rubber like aluminum to simulate bigger wheels.

In 1955, Packard used a torsion-level-suspension. I think that the electronic technology with sensors can make a more efficient torsion bar suspension to swinging control and added with articulated links to control camber angle. This variable geometry suspension (VGS) is supplemented with rear transverse-transaxle gearbox for better mass distribution, thus improving stability.
