H Peugeot ανακοίνωσε ότι στη προσεχή έκθεση της Γενεύης θα κάνει τη παγκόσμια πρεμιέρα το 208 HYbrid FE Concept, όπου FE βάλε Fun and Efficient, χωρίς όμως ακόμα να μας έχει παρουσιάσει κάποια φωτογραφία.

Εξελίχθηκε σε συνεργασία με τη Γαλλική εταιρία πετρελαϊκών, Total, και η Peugeot υπόσχεται ότι το αποτέλεσμα θα συνδυάζει εξαιρετική οικονομία με εξαιρετικές επιδόσεις. Θα έχει αρκετά βελτιωμένο και χαμηλότερο αεροδυναμικό συντελεστή και θα χρησιμοποιηθούν συνθετικά και πολυκαρβονικά υλικά, εξελιγμένα από τις θυγατρικές της Total, Hutchinson και CCP Composites, μειώνοντας το συνολικό βάρος του αυτοκινήτου, σε σχέση με το νορμάλ, κατά το εκπληκτικό νούμερο των 200 κιλών.

Κάτω από το καπό, και στα πλαίσια της οικονομίας καυσίμου, το concept θα φοράει ένα κινητήρα 1-λίτρου που θα συνδυάζεται με ένα κιβώτιο EGC μαζί με έναν ηλεκτροκινητήρα που έχει περάσει απευθείας από τους αγώνες αντοχής που έχει συμμετάσχει η εταιρία και αυτό το μηχανικό σύνολο θα είναι ικανό να επιταχύνει το αμάξι για τα 0-100χλμ/ώρα σε 8 δευτ. και να έχει εκπομπές CO2 49γρ/χλμ. Τέλος, θα φοράει νέες αλουμινένιες ζάντες με ελαστικά χαμηλής αντίστασης.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS COMBINE TO PRODUCE 208 HYBRID FE CONCEPT – A LOW CO2 TOUR DE FORCE

The relationship between Peugeot and Total, with the objective of improving vehicle energy performance, has produced a breakthrough project with the 208 HYbrid FE – providing an enhanced driving experience (0 to 62mph in just 8.0 seconds) and very low CO2 emissions (just 49g/km).

The technological concept benefits from Peugeot and Total’s latest innovations in aerodynamics, weight-saving and drivetrains. The performance of this concept can be achieved without the use of a top-up energy source and takes its base from an already very efficient production car (Peugeot 208).

So to achieve CO2 of 49gkm and 0 to 62mph in 8 seconds means halving the emissions of the most economical of the current petrol engine cars (Fuel Economy) while obtaining acceleration worthy of a small sports car (so Fun and Efficient), hence why this technology concept demonstrator is named the Peugeot 208 HYbrid FE.

To rise to this technological challenge, Total and Peugeot are combining their capacity for innovation to develop solutions for the mobility of future generations. To give a firm foundation to this undertaking, the project is based on the very efficient 208 1.0-litre VTi 68bhp, which will be extensively evolved. The style and the aerodynamics will be the first visible elements. Redesigned, the 208 HYbrid FE will be more aerodynamic with a much lower co-efficient of drag (Cd) than that of the production model, while retaining its occupant space. Special tyres and wheels will contribute to reduce rolling resistance.

The weight reduction will be a major contributor to the performance. In fact, the teams expect to achieve a 200kg reduction in the weight of the vehicle. Hutchinson and CCP Composites, subsidiaries of the Total Group, will contribute their expertise in composite materials and polycarbonates. These will be used for the body panels, the windows and also in the passenger compartment.

The 208 HYbrid FE will also innovate with its hybrid drivetrain inspired by competition. It is a power unit which combines a 3-cylinder petrol engine and its EGC (Electronic Gearbox Control) gearbox with an electric motor and a battery taken directly from the endurance programmes. The engine will be adapted for this new application: special thermo-management and combustion cycle, reduction of friction, reduced weight of the reciprocating gears and of the cylinder head.

Total provides Peugeot and its networks worldwide with FE (Fuel Economy) lubricants designed to reduce vehicle consumption by reducing friction in the engine. Over the last ten years, Total lubricants have contributed to a 5% reduction in the emissions of CO2 on Peugeot vehicles.

To achieve this, Peugeot is investing in a range of technologies. Engines are an important area: continuous improvement of the efficiency of internal combustion engines, down-sizing strategy, standardisation of use of the particle emission filter, wider use of the Stop & Start technology, Diesel-electric hybrids, electric drive, etc. Peugeot is also investing in the materials used to reduce the weight of the vehicles, increasing the proportion of green materials, without forgetting the connected services.

Peugeot is setting itself the goal of combining driving experience and sustainable mobility, regardless of the means of transport. So, it is the only automobile manufacturer to offer a comprehensive range of personal means of transport: bicycles, scooters, cars and light commercial vehicles.

The result of these developments is positive as the company has the lowest CO2 emissions in Europe, with its average rating decreased by 7g/km to only 121.6g/km in 2012. Two in every three Peugeot vehicles emit CO2 of less than 130g/km.

Partners since 1995, Peugeot and Total have been working together to significantly reduce fuel consumption, emissions of CO2 and vehicle TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). The Total Group and several of its entities (Lubricants, Fuels, Hutchinson, CCP Composites, Total Global Polymers) are actively involved alongside Peugeot in numerous R&D projects permitting the production of more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
