Nissan 2020 Concept Vision Gran Turismo

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo to be presented at Goodwood on Thursday 26th at 13:00

  • 2+2 virtual supercar with advanced aerodynamic body
  • Four-wheel drive chassis, active suspension
  • Virtual version available to download in July Gran Turismo ®6

GOODWOOD, UK (25 June, 2014) – Nissan’s vision of a supercar for the future, originally created as a design study among Nissan’s young designers and formulated as a virtual model for the PlayStation®3 Gran Turismo® 6 (GT6™) computer game, has moved from the virtual world to reality.

The full size concept model will be presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from 13:00 on Thursday 26th at the Nissan booth.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo began as a dream project for Nissan’s young designers who were given free rein to create the perfect supercar for their own Gran Turismo fantasy garage.

But the design from a team at Nissan Design Europe, based in London, was seen to have so much potential that it has benefited from input from the brand’s expert engineering team in Japan.

Adapting design cues from current Nissan performance models, it was created from scratch using the latest digital design tools: the first – and to date only – physical representation of the car is the actual concept model.

NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo emerged from a styling and design study among Nissan’s global pool of young designers. Each team was answering a call from the makers of Gran Turismo 6, who have asked different manufacturers present within the game to each create visionary, dream cars to celebrate its 15th anniversary.

Nissan’s 2+2 sports car adapts race-track technology – in particular air flow management – to a road car environment.

Working closely with skilled aerodynamic technicians and engineering teams in Japan to ensure the virtual car performs as realistically as possible, the design is partly shaped by emotion and partly by the wind.

Neat styling touches evoke aspects of Nissan performance models through the ages but present them in a futuristic way.

Although visitors to Goodwood Festival of Speed will see a physical interpretation of the car, the first people to ‘drive’ it will be GT6 gamers. NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, which will be available in ten different shades, will be available to download from July, 2014.

“This is in line with the Nissan philosophy,” says Koji Nagano, Vice President, Nissan Design Europe. “In reality, not everyone would be able to own a car like NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, but through Gran Turismo anyone can drive it and experience Nissan’s promise of delivering innovation that excites.”

So will a production version be driven up the Goodwood hill in 2020? That remains to be seen… but a great deal can happen in the near future. And in the meantime, enthusiasts can enjoy its dramatic looks and spectacular virtual performance from the comfort of their armchair!

NISSAN SET TO EXCITE GOODWOOD CROWDS

  • Global debut of NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo®
  • Olympians Sir Chris Hoy and Jenny Jones and Paralympian Richard Whitehead MBE will greet fans on the stand over the weekend
  • GT-R NISMO GT3 takes on Goodwood track

Fantasy will become reality this weekend when the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Grand Turismo® makes its global debut as part of the brand’s thrilling and action-packed Goodwood Festival of Speed programme.

The covers come off the NISSAN CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo® on Thursday 26 June at 13:00 on the Nissan stand, giving visitors the first chance to see the car up close.

Furthermore, as part of the festivities, Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer, Andy Palmer, along with the brand’s Chief Creative Officer, Design and Brand Management, Shiro Nakamura, will also be at Goodwood over the course of the weekend to meet members of the media and public alike.

Conceived by the team from Nissan’s European design studio in London for the latest installment of the legendary PlayStation driving franchise, Gran Turismo®, the concept points to how a Nissan supercar of the future could look.

And its much-anticipated first appearance will be one of the highlights of a scintillating 2014 festival presence that will showcase like never before the spirit of innovation and excitement embedded in Nissan’s DNA.

Olympic hero Sir Chris Hoy, now a Nissan driver and brand ambassador, will appear on the Nissan stand three times – between 11:00-11:30 and 14:30-15:00 on Friday and 14:30-15:00 on Sunday – for a Q&A session with fans.

Fellow brand ambassador, Richard Whitehead MBE – a Gold Medallist at the London 2012 Paralympic Games – and Jenny Jones, a Bronze Medallist at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, will be visiting the Nissan stand as well as part of the brand’s inspirational #UniteAndExcite partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB on the Road to Rio.

Visitors will be able to experience motorsport thrills for themselves in high-tech Gran Turismo® 6 gaming pods. To complete the digital experience visitors can virtually design their own IDx concept with the Oculus Rift 3D virtual reality gaming headset that delivers mind-blowing realism.

There will be a strong Nissan presence on the Goodwood track too, with two versions of its all-conquering GT-R supercar – the GT-R NISMO and the record-breaking GT-R Time Attack appearing on the famous circuit throughout the weekend. The GT-R NISMO GT3 will be driven by rising star, GT Academy winner and current Le Mans JS P2 driver Jann Mardenborough.
