BRENTWOOD, Oct 2, 2014 – The new Ford Mustang will make its European production debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

The new Ford Mustang fastback and convertible models will go on sale across Europe in 2015 for the first time after 50 years of production, and promise world-class levels of performance and refinement while embracing the Mustang’s half-century of heritage and status as a global icon.

“The Mustang’s reputation for performance and its iconic status as a symbol of freedom and optimism precedes it even in those parts of the world where the car has never been sold,” said Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The new Mustang is modern, technologically advanced and creative, without forgetting the heritage that has inspired Ford customers for generations.”

More than nine million Mustangs have been sold since it was first launched in 1964. The world’s most-liked vehicle on Facebook, Mustang has made thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games.

The new Mustang has been developed with world-class performance, driving dynamics and ergonomics in mind – and includes a significant amount of advanced driver convenience and driver aid technologies.

“The new Mustang is one of the most hotly anticipated cars ever, we are very excited to now give drivers in Europe the opportunity to experience the real thing,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe.

Unmistakably Mustang

The clean-sheet design of both Ford Mustang fastback and convertible evokes the essential character of the vehicle, retaining key design elements of the classic Mustangs recognisable to car fans across Europe, including the long sculpted bonnet and short rear deck, with a contemporary execution.

“You only get one chance to make a first impression and when you see this car, you immediately see a Mustang strong and true,” said Moray Callum, Ford executive director, design, The Americas.

Several key design features define the new Ford Mustang, including:

  • A low roof height and wide stance
  • Sleek profile enabled by steeply sloped windshield and rear glass
  • Three-dimensional, tri-bar taillamps
  • Contemporary execution of the iconic car’s signature trapezoidal grille and shark-bite front fascia

Ford Mustang convertible drivers will appreciate the standard multilayer insulated cloth top that gives the car an upscale appearance and a quiet cabin. The top has a sleek profile when folded for open-air motoring.

Large, clear instrumentation puts vehicle information right in front of the driver in the roomy cabin with an aviation-inspired cockpit, while ergonomic and tactile switches and knobs provide control. The vehicle’s width and new rear suspension contribute to improved shoulder and hip room for passengers and a usefully shaped bootspace that can accommodate two golf bags.

The Mustang experience

The way Ford Mustang looks, drives and sounds is key to the visceral experience. The Ford Mustang offers outstanding power options and a sophisticated new chassis designed to meet the driving dynamics expectations of European drivers.

Ford’s acclaimed 5.0‑litre V8 engine – yielding 418 PS and 524 Nm of torque for Europe – is joined by an all-new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine that brings state-of-the-art technology to Mustang; delivering turbocharged performance with the fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions demanded by Europe’s car consumers.

“This EcoBoost engine delivers where a Mustang driver expects it to with a broad, flat torque curve that pours out when you stand on it for easy passing or hustling down a twisty road,” said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer.

The Mustang’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging to deliver usable performance. A unique intake manifold and turbocharger housing enable it to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect, with 314 PS and 434 Nm of torque for Europe. An automatic transmission option features steering wheel-mounted shift paddles that deliver convenience and control for drivers.

A Mustang for the true driving enthusiast

The new Ford Mustang features all-new front and rear suspension systems. At the front, a new perimeter subframe helps to stiffen the front structure while reducing mass, providing a strong foundation for more predictable wheel control that benefits handling, steering and ride.

The new double ball-joint front MacPherson strut system also enables the use of large, powerful brakes. Both 2.3-litre EcoBoost and V8-powered GT Mustang models will feature performance brake packages behind standard 19-inch wheels in Europe.

At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension. The geometry, springs, dampers and bushings all have been specifically modified and tuned for this high-performance application, and are well-suited to European roads and high speed driving culture. New aluminium rear knuckles help reduce unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.

Smart technology

The new Mustang features a significant number of innovative technologies providing drivers with enhanced information, control, and connectivity when they want it.

On a twisty road or a weekend track day, the driver can tap the toggle switches on the console to quickly adjust steering effort, engine response, and transmission and electronic stability control settings using the available Selectable Drive Modes to create the perfect Mustang at any time.

The new Mustang will be among the first vehicles in Europe to offer SYNC 2. Ford’s advanced infotainment system features a high-resolution, 8-inch colour touch screen and advanced voice control for easier access to audio, navigation, climate control and compatible mobile phones.

SYNC 2’s navigation system also offers a split-screen display with detailed intersections, spoken street names, 3D highway junction and landmark views, and the Michelin travel guide. SYNC 2 enables drivers to issue simpler “one-shot” navigation destinations, and to ask the system to “play” a desired artist. Simply pushing the voice control button and saying “I’m hungry” will bring up a list of local restaurants, which you can then get directions to.

“From day one, we knew if we were going to build a new Mustang, we had to do it right,” Pericak said. “We built a new Mustang from the ground up that is fast, great-looking, refined and efficient, without losing any of the raw appeal that people around the world have associated with Mustang for decades.”

POWER, FUEL EFFICIENCY AND ADVANCED TRANSMISSION OPTIONS; NEW FORD MUSTANG IS TAILORED TO DRIVER PREFERENCE

  • New 2.3-litre EcoBoost brings turbocharging to the new Mustang with exceptional power, torque and fuel efficiency
  • 5.0-litre V8 engine delivers power and torque fans expect from the iconic brand
  • Manual transmissions provide smooth shifting, automatic transmissions feature steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters

Brentwood, Oct 2.  2014 – The all-new Ford Mustang offers a choice of advanced engines and manual or automatic transmissions, delivering power and performance worthy of the Mustang badge in any specification.

The all-new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine brings turbocharging to the Mustang powertrain line-up. Designed to meet the needs of drivers looking for outstanding performance and fuel efficiency, this EcoBoost engine has been developed specifically for Mustang. The intake manifold and turbocharger housing are optimised to provide better breathing and higher output in Mustang.

With output of 314 PS and 434 Nm of torque for Europe, this EcoBoost engine fits the bill for a true Mustang powerplant.

“This EcoBoost engine delivers the healthy output that Mustang drivers expect regardless of the speed with a broad, flat torque curve and great driveability under any conditions,” said Scott Makowksi, Ford EcoBoost powertrain engineering manager.

The newest member of Ford’s global family of EcoBoost engines, the 2.3-litre engine leverages state-of-the-art technologies including direct fuel injection, twin independent variable camshaft timing and turbocharging to produce big-engine power and torque with improved fuel efficiency.

This is the first Ford engine to utilise a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger that provides quicker boost response while enabling lower emissions and improved efficiency. The cylinder head features an integrated exhaust manifold that separates the inner and outer pairs of cylinders into each inlet passage to the turbo.

Keeping the exhaust pulses separated from the next cylinder in the firing order eliminates mixing losses and maximises pulse energy to the turbine wheel. The result is quicker torque delivery when the driver needs it for passing manoeuvres and similar performance to a twin-turbocharger configuration.

The separated exhaust ports also enable the exhaust valves to stay open longer for reduced pumping losses that improve specific fuel consumption by about 1 per cent.

With such high power output, ensuring durability was critical. Enhancements to the Mustang EcoBoost engine to withstand the stresses include:

  • Forged-steel crankshaft
  • Piston-cooling jets
  • Steel piston ring groves
  • Premium bearing materials
  • Upgraded valve seat materials
  • Forged-steel connecting rods
  • High-pressure die-cast aluminium cylinder block with ladder-frame bearing caps
  • Deep-sump, die-cast aluminium oil pan

The beating heart of a Mustang

No Ford Mustang engine line-up would be complete without a great V8 engine at its core. The 5.0-litre V8 engine powers into a new generation with a host of upgrades that enable it to breathe better, especially at higher engine speeds.

Getting air into the cylinders and exhaust out is the key to generating more power and torque from any engine, and that has been the focus of development on the V8, which features:

  • Larger intake valves
  • Larger exhaust valves
  • Revised intake camshafts
  • Revised exhaust camshafts
  • Stiffer valve springs – delivering precise control of valves high rpm
  • New cylinder-head casting – revised ports that provide a straighter path to the valves for less-restrictive intake and exhaust flow; combustion chamber modifications accommodate larger valves
  • Sinter forged connecting rods – lighter and more durable for high-rpm operation
  • Redesigned piston Crowns – deeper pockets clear the new larger valves
  • Rebalanced forged crankshaft – supports higher-rpm operation

These upgrades are projected to generate 418 PS and 524 Nm of torque for Europe.

A new intake manifold includes charge motion control valves to partially close off port flow at lower engine speeds. This increases the air charge tumble and swirl for improved air-fuel mixing. This results in better fuel economy, idle stability and lower emissions.

The variable camshaft timing on the intake side now has a greater range of adjustment available thanks to mid-lock phasers. This enables better optimised control of the valve timing over a broader range of engine speeds and loads for improved fuel economy and emissions.

Transmissions

Mustang blends outstanding all-around performance and everyday usability. Drivers who prefer to let the car handle the shifting during their daily work run, but still want to take control when the roads get twisty, will appreciate the new steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles with rev-matching downshifts that are now standard with the Select-Shift six-speed automatic transmission.

The automatic also features a redesigned case with cast-in ribs that help make it stiffer and reduce the weight. Internally clutches have been optimised and the operating temperature has been increased to reduce friction.

The new Mustang’s Getrag manual transmission has a shift linkage design for improved precision and slick engagement.

With a choice of powertrains to match driving styles and lifestyles, the new Mustang has contemporary technology under the hood to match its modern design and yet remain quintessentially Mustang.

PARIS, Oct. 2, 2014 – The new Ford Focus ST will make its motor show debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

The most advanced Focus ST yet offers new chassis control technologies, tuned suspension and steering, and bespoke tyre specification that ensure an even more responsive, balanced and refined driving experience. And for the first time, it will be offered with the choice of two powerful engines – one petrol and one diesel.

The first diesel Focus ST takes day-to-day usability and sportiness to a new level by delivering the most fuel-efficient and lowest CO2 Ford performance car ever; 185PS 2.0-litre TDCi achieves 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds, 67.3mpg and 110g/km CO2.*

For customers who prefer petrol, the 250PS 2.0-litre EcoBoost delivers 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds, fuel efficiency of 41.5mpg, and 159g/km CO2. Both models offer Auto-Start-Stop for the first time that improves the EcoBoost version’s fuel efficiency by 6 per cent and help make it the most fuel-efficient petrol Focus ST ever.

“The new Focus ST delivers an even more sophisticated balance of performance, driving dynamics, refinement and style – the core of Ford’s Sports Technologies DNA,” said Joe Bakaj, vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe. “Even more enjoyable and rewarding to drive and with the choice of diesel power for the first time, the new Focus ST is in a class of its own.”

The Focus ST will also benefit from technology and craftsmanship first revealed earlier this year for the new Ford Focus – the world’s best-selling global nameplate.** The sporty and aggressive new five-door and estate models will offer class-leading driver assistance technologies and connectivity features including the SYNC 2 in-car connectivity system.

Ford has sold more than 140,000 Focus ST models in 40 countries worldwide since the car was first launched in 2002.

Enhanced driving dynamics

Ford Team RS, the award-winning European arm of Ford’s Global Performance Vehicle group, made improving the entire driving experience the number one objective for the new Focus ST.

The sports suspension features all-new front springs and sportier new shock absorber tuning front and rear, with stiffer suspension bushes on the front lower control arm and rear spring links. In combination with the model-specific anti-roll bars and rear springs from the previous generation ST, these enhancements deliver an even sharper dynamic performance.

The calibration of the Electronic Power Assisted Steering and electronic vehicle control systems has also been revised to meet the specific sporting requirements of the new Focus ST.

Key innovations include the industry-first Enhanced Transitional Stability (ETS) system as part of the vehicle’s advanced Electronic Stability Control (ESC). ETS senses vehicle stability and driver inputs, predicts when a skid or loss of control might occur, and intervenes as required using individual wheel braking to maintain optimal precision and control during rapid changes of direction at speed – for example in a lane-change situation.

Team RS engineers have also revised the Electronic Torque Vectoring Control settings that optimise wheel torque distribution, to further maximise traction through corners and increase agility.

Focus ST drivers have the option of selecting three ESC system modes to suit different road or track conditions:

  • Standard Mode – with ESC and traction control fully active
  • Sport Mode – No engine torque reduction from traction control and ESC systems, and reduced ESC brake interventions to facilitate more sporty driving; ETS is disabled
  • Off Mode – No engine torque reduction from traction control and ESC systems, and no ESC brake interventions (Torque Vectoring remains active); ETS is disabled

Power delivery refinement under hard acceleration – particularly front wheel traction and gear shift quality – is also assisted by engine mounts engineered specifically to accommodate the performance of the new Focus ST. Additionally, Ford worked with Michelin to develop a new 19-inch tyre that complements the driving dynamics, especially maximising lateral grip.

“Ford has long enjoyed a reputation for producing performance hatchbacks with superb driving dynamics and the new Focus ST more than lives up to that pedigree,” Bakaj added. “The engineering enhancements to the suspension, steering and electronic control systems deliver greater responsiveness, agility, precision and an exhilarating driving experience – whichever powertrain you choose.”

Power of choice

The new 185PS 2.0-litre diesel engine that debuts in the new Focus ST has been optimised to deliver ST performance and character alongside fuel efficiency and everyday practicality.

The increased power output of the Focus ST 2.0-litre TDCi – a 23 per cent gain over the 150 PS 2.0-litre engine in the new Focus range – is achieved by electronic calibration, a revised air intake system and a new sports-tuned exhaust.

Peak power is developed at 3,500rpm and there is 400Nm of torque available from 2,000-2,750rpm, enabling the new Focus ST diesel to achieve a maximum speed of 135mph. The torque output enables impressive in-gear acceleration and strong performance at low rpm. In 6th gear, acceleration from 50-75mph takes just 9.7 seconds in sixth gear, the combination of a shorter ratio and the increased power enabling the Focus ST to outpace the 150PS Focus by 2.2 seconds.

Ford’s 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine uses turbocharging, Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing technology, and high-pressure direct-injection to deliver uncompromising performance. Peak power is available at 5,500rpm, 360Nm of torque is available from 2,000-4,500rpm, and maximum speed is 154mph.

Both engines use a six-speed manual transmission with a performance-oriented, short-throw shift. The gear ratios – exclusive to ST and matched individually to each engine – deliver rapid acceleration in lower gears and comfortable cruising at speed.

Powerful appearance

The new Focus ST features sportier and more aggressive styling than the previous generation, with a lower, wider stance; new dynamically sculpted bonnet; slimmer headlamps and rectangular foglamps.

The sports bodykit also includes body‑coloured side skirts and diffuser elements either side of the exhaust, and a rear roof spoiler optimised for aerodynamic performance. All new Focus ST models feature twin-hexagonal centre tailpipes.

Black lamp bezels, ST badging and new 19-inch ST Design alloy wheels – that are available as an option – complete the look.

“Focus ST has proved very popular with Ford’s performance oriented customers and the new model takes that to an even more striking and dramatic level,” said Joel Piaskowski, design director, Ford of Europe. “The signature ST honeycomb upper grille is slimmer and sits higher on the fascia, there are new rectangular fog lamps in the outer apertures, and the lower fascia offers sharper and more distinct sculpting. At the rear, the width of the car is emphasised by a new full-width graphic in the lower fascia.”

A new dark grey exterior paint colour called Stealth is introduced exclusively to the Focus ST. Deep Impact Blue also is new to the range that includes Tangerine Scream, Frozen White, Panther Black and Race Red.

Cockpit-style cabin

Ford has redesigned the Focus interior for a more intuitive layout that also is simpler, with a clearer visual connection between the key components and significantly fewer buttons in the cabin.

An additional bank of three gauges – an ST hallmark – is situated on the instrument binnacle and displays turbocharger boost pressure, oil temperature and oil pressure information. A new, flat-base sports steering wheel with a soft-feel leather covered rim; a satin chrome-topped gear lever; and ST pedals deliver the interior that ST drivers expect.

Satin chrome door grab handles and illuminated aluminium scuff plates add extra touches of refinement, and sports seats developed jointly by Ford and Recaro provide the support required to fully enjoy the ST driving experience, and also are comfortable for every day driving.

The new Focus ST will be available in ST1, ST2 and ST3 trim levels. ST1 seats feature grey/charcoal/anthracite black fabric; ST2 adds partial leather with base and side bolsters available in four colours (Tangerine Scream; Performance Blue; Smoke Storm or Race Red); ST3 seats have a full charcoal black leather finish.

Advanced technologies

Driver assistance, convenience and connectivity technologies that will be introduced for the first time include the Ford SYNC 2 connectivity system. SYNC 2 offers access to audio, navigation, climate control and mobile phones using class-leading voice control and a high-definition, 8-inch colour touchscreen that displays the ST logo on start-up.

Adaptive Front Lighting, available for the first time on the Focus ST, adjusts the intensity and angle of the Bi-Xenon HID headlamp beams according to vehicle speed, steering angle and distance to objects to provide optimal illumination. Cross Traffic Alert also is a new addition for Focus ST, and warns drivers reversing from parking spaces if other vehicles are about to cross their path.

Ford’s enhanced Active City Stop collision avoidance system – now operative at speeds of up to 31mph – readies the brakes if a potential impact is detected and – if the driver does not respond – will automatically apply the brakes. Lane Keeping Aid applies steering torque to guide the Focus ST back in to lane if drifting is detected.

Available to order in the UK from autumn 2014, the first new Focus ST models are scheduled to be in dealerships from early 2015. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

Ford Intelligent All-Wheel Drive will also be offered for the first time.

The S-MAX will be the first Ford to feature Dynamic LED Headlamps with Glare-Free Highbeam to maintain maximum illumination without distracting other road users. Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist is a segment first and will assist in mitigating accidents even at motorway speeds.

The sleek and sporty exterior is complemented by a sophisticated interior optimised for comfort with segment-first front Ford Multi-Contour Seats. All-new S-MAX offers 32 seating and loadspace combinations, and segment-first Easy-Fold second and third row seats.

Enhanced styling and efficiency for C-MAX

Ford’s new C-MAX multi-activity vehicle family delivers a sleeker exterior design with the company’s distinctive inverted trapezoidal grille, sleeker, more chiselled front headlamps and more rectangular, elongated fog-lamps.

The new interior features fewer controls and switches, and higher quality trims and new black satin and chrome detailing for a cleaner, modern look. Improved stowage solutions include a redesigned centre storage console with sliding, integrated armrest, and swing bin glovebox.

The models will introduce advanced technology including the Hands-Free Liftgate to the multi-activity vehicle segment, and will feature Ford’s SYNC 2. Reduced noise, vibration and harshness has been achieved with thicker side glass, more absorbent acoustic seals, and acoustic dampening within the engine bay.

C-MAX models will be equipped for the first time with a new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine and 120PS 1.5-litre TDCi engine. The C-MAX family will continue to be offered with 100PS and 125PS versions of the multi-award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.

Iconic Ford Mustang for Europe

The Ford Mustang will deliver world-class levels of performance and refinement, as well as classic design elements. These will include the sleek profile, three-dimensional, tri-bar taillamps and signature trapezoidal grille with the shark-bite front fascia. The European trim includes revised rear tail lamps, side mirrors and front end treatment.

The new Ford Mustang also features all-new front and rear suspension systems and standard Performance Pack chassis tuning for Europe. Ford’s acclaimed 5.0 litre V8 engine will yield 418PS and 524Nm of torque, and the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine delivers 314PS and 434Nm.

Ford Edge upscale sport utility vehicle and advanced Ford Focus ST

The all-new Ford Edge will deliver advanced new technologies when it joins the new Kuga medium-sized SUV and the all-new EcoSport small SUV in Ford’s expanding SUV range.

Edge will also feature Ford Adaptive Steering, introduces to Europe Active Noise Cancellation technology, and is available with two versions of Ford’s 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine. The 180PS version delivers 400Nm of torque and projected 149g/km CO2, with 6-speed manual transmission; a 210PS version delivers 450Nm of torque and projected 159g/km CO2, with 6-speed PowerShift automatic and paddle-shift controls.

New chassis control technologies, tuned suspension and steering, and a bespoke tyre specification ensure an even more responsive, balanced and refined Focus ST. The diesel model is the most fuel-efficient and lowest CO2 Ford performance car ever.

“These great new vehicles will kick start what I believe will be another major year for Ford of Europe,” Odell said. “2015 will be a year in which the Ford of Europe product-led business transformation continues to make significant advances.”
