Η Skoda επιβεβαίωσε επίσημα στο περιθώριο της έκθεσης της Μόσχας, ότι η νέα Octavia, θα παρουσιαστεί τον Νοέμβριο με τις πωλήσεις της να ξεκινούν από τις αρχές του 2013. Η τέταρτη γενιά της Octavia, θα κατασκευαστεί πάνω στη νέα αρθρωτή πλατφόρμα MQB του VW Group, την ίδια που χρησιμοποιούν ήδη τα Audi A3, Seat Leon και Golf 7, το οποίο θα παρουσιαστεί στις 4 Σεπτεμβρίου στο Βερολίνο.

Η νέα Octavia θα είναι ελαφρύτερη και ελαφρώς μεγαλύτερη από τη τωρινή γενιά. Θα έχει μήκος κοντά στα 4,8 μέτρα, έτσι ώστε να διαχωρίζεται από το Rapid. H Skoda θέλει την Octavia να την ανεβάσει κατηγορία αλλά οι βασικές εκδόσεις της θα παραμείνουν στην ίδια φιλοσοφία, δίνοντας χώρους σε χαμηλότερη τιμή σε σχέση με τους ανταγωνιστές της. Θα υπάρχουν high-end εκδόσεις, οι οποίες θα είναι ακριβές, αλλά θα είναι καλά εξοπλισμένες.

Μηχανικά αναμένεται να φορά τους ίδιους κινητήρες με αυτούς που θα φορέσει το νέο VW Golf. Έτσι περιμένουμε μια γκάμα TSI και TDI κινητήρων όπου ανάμεσα τους θα συναντάμε τον 1.400αρη TSI με σύστημα απενεργοποίησης κυλίνδρων καθώς και τον νέο 1.600αρη TDI. Η δυνατή έκδοση RS θα φορά τον 2,0-λιτρο TSI EA888, ο οποίος θα τοποθετηθεί και στο νέο Golf GTI, ο οποίος θα αποδίδει κοντά στα 225 άλογα.

Παράλληλα η Skoda έδωσε περισσότερες φωτογραφίες της έκδοσης Yeti Sochi η οποία παρουσιάστηκε στην έκθεση της Μόσχας. Έχει δημιουργηθεί για την χειμερινή ολυμπιάδα του 2014, η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο Sochi, είναι τετρακίνητη και μηχανικά φορά τον 1,800αρη TSI απόδοσης 153 ίππων. Συνδυάζεται με το 6-τάχυτο DSG κιβώτιο και οι πωλήσεις του θα ξεκινήσουν από το 2013.

On display for the first time in Moscow is the ŠKODA Yeti Sochi. This special model provides a preview of ŠKODA’s sponsorship of the 2014 Winter Olympics and will see its sales debut in Russia in 2013. ŠKODA confirms the market launch of Rapid compact saloon in Russia. The Rapid for Russia will run off the line at Volkswagen’s Kaluga plant from spring 2014. In addition, ŠKODA presents its current model palette as well as the ŠKODA Yeti 1.4 TSI in combination with DSG, a seven-speed double clutch transmission.

“Russia is a pillar of our international growth plans and has a central importance for our 2018 growth strategy,” says ŠKODA CEO Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “This country is one of the world’s strongest-growing market and offers tremendous potential for ŠKODA. We intend to resolutely continue our dynamic development of recent years. We will have more capacity in the future so as to further raise our sales in Russia,” says Vahland.

By the year 2018, ŠKODA aims to raise its worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million per year thanks to a model offensive. This will involve ŠKODA launching a new or revised model every six months on average worldwide. It is the largest model offensive in the company’s history and is sure to affect the model palette in Russia as well.

The ŠKODA Yeti Sochi is a reference to the venue for the 2014 Winter Olympics by the Black Sea. ŠKODA will be participating in this large-scale sports event, for which Volkswagen Group Russia has committed to an automobile partnership. The candy-white ŠKODA Yeti Sochi special model, shown in Moscow for the first time, impresses with special Winter Games branding, lavish trim, four-wheel drive, powerful engine and automated 6-gear double-clutch transmission. Its 1.8 TSI petrol engine puts out 112 kW. Market launch will be in 2013.

Playing an important role for the brand in Russia will be the new ŠKODA Rapid. Positioned between the ŠKODA Fabia and the Octavia, the Rapid is to be launched as the brand’s sixth model line on the Russian market. It will be made at Volkswagen Group’s Kaluga plant from spring 2014. ŠKODA is currently evaluating whether an earlier market launch involving imported cars is feasible.

Also debuting in Moscow is the Yeti 1.4 TSI DSG. This is the first time ever a combination of a 1.4 litre petrol engine and a double-clutch transmission is available in a ŠKODA Yeti. This compact SUV shines in its classy black magic “Elegance” trim, impressing with a powerful 90 kW engine and a convenient automated 7-speed double-clutch transmission. It will be launched in Russia in early 2013.

In pursuing its growth goals, ŠKODA is starting from an excellent base. In the first seven months of 2012, the brand sold more cars in Russia than ever before in a comparable period. Deliveries to Russian customers rose by 41.5 per cent to about 54,700 from January through July 2012, up from 38,700 year on year. This is to say that the company impressively extended its enormously successful development of recent years. From 2005 through 2011, ŠKODA raised its sales in Russia from 7,500 to 74,100, an almost tenfold increase.

Moscow/Mladá Boleslav, August 2012 – Škoda is forcefully expanding its model palette in Russia, with the new Škoda Rapid soon to become the brand’s sixth model line sold in the country. Production of the Russian Rapid is to begin in early 2014 at Volkswagen’s Kaluga plant. ŠKODA is currently evaluating an earlier launch involving imported cars.

The ŠKODA Rapid has central importance for ŠKODA’s 2018 growth strategy and will further strengthen the brand’s position in Russia. In the years ahead, ŠKODA will be continuing its model offensive in Russia. “The ŠKODA Rapid has enormous importance for our growth in what is currently our third-largest market worldwide,” says ŠKODA CEO Winfried Vahland.

“The ŠKODA Rapid is ŠKODA’s new class and sets new standards in the compact saloon segment in Russia, as it has already done elsewhere. The Rapid is a perfect complement to the model palette between ŠKODA Fabia and the ŠKODA Octavia, making it at home in the high-volume compact segment. While its exterior dimensions are compact (4.48 metres in length, 1.71 in width and 1.46 in height), the car will comfortably seat up to five. The Rapid scores best in class in rear knee and head room. Another best in segment is the 550 litres of boot volume, truly a family-size figure.

Its excellent space offering makes ŠKODA’s most recent addition a “Simply Clever” car through and through. It is the first ŠKODA series car ever to completely feature the brand’s newly developed design language. “The new Rapid sends a clear signal at first sight: it is clear, precise, fresh and emotional,” says Eckhard Scholz, ŠKODA board member in charge of technical development. Perfect proportions, clearly and cleanly modelled surfaces and sharply drawn lines create an attractive overall appearance.

“The Rapid is the first model line which ŠKODA developed using a maximum of synergies for markets the world over. In doing so, we made sure down to details that we met customers’ specific requirements in individual markets,” says Scholz. In India, an Indian variant of the compact saloon of the same name has been in production and on sale since late 2011. In Europe, the Rapid will be launched from autumn 2012. In China, the Rapid will be available in a locally adapted version from the year 2013 on. Russia will follow with a local production of the ŠKODA Rapid from early 2014. As part of the involvement of Volkswagen Group Russia, national partner of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Škoda Auto Russia will be participating in the event, to be held in the Black Sea city of Sochi. Support of the Olympics means ŠKODA will send another strong signal in winter sports. After all, the company has been the official main sponsor of the IIHF ice hockey world championship for 20 years. No surprise, then, that the two sponsoring focuses mark the brand’s presence at the Moscow International Automobile Salon.

Currently, the brand’s Russian portfolio comprises five models: the Fabia, Octavia, Roomster, Yeti and Superb. The new Yeti Sochi special model, presented at the Moscow International Automobile Salon, highlights ŠKODA’s sponsoring of the 2014 Winter Olympics, to be held in the Russian city of Sochi. Also in its world debut in Moscow will be the ŠKODA Yeti 1.4 TSI DSG, the first display of the combination of a 1.4 litre direct-injection petrol engine and a seven-speed double-clutch transmission. In the first seven months of the year, the brand’s cars were in demand in Russia as never before: deliveries rose by 41.5 per cent to a new record of 54,700 (January – July 2011: 38,700).

ŠKODA most popular model in Russia is the ŠKODA Octavia, accounting for about 50 per cent of the brand’s sales in the country. A timeless design, generous interior space, exceptional price-value ratio, superior workmanship and diversity of variants win over drivers from all social strata. In Russia, the ŠKODA Octavia is sold as a saloon and as an estate.

Its distinctive grille marks out the appearance of the car’s front, as do the strongly three-dimensional front fenders. The body cutouts for the headlights, with xenon lights and swiveling modules for curve lighting available as an option, are large and dominant. The fog lights below the front bumper integrate daytime running light and low beam functionality. The traditionally C-shaped taillights round off the ŠKODA Octavia’s handsome appearance.

The ŠKODA Octavia’s interior offers no end of space and head and knee room for drivers and passengers. A large tailgate makes loading easy. 560 litres of baggage space sets standards in the compact segment. Fold down the rear seats, and loading space increases to an impressive 1,435 litres. But this saloon is not just big on functionality. Selected materials and functionally positioned controls make the Octavia’s interior extremely attractive and create perfect travelling comfort on all seats.

The ŠKODA Fabia and the ŠKODA Roomster are two compact-class entry-level models that are both roomy and fuel-efficient. ŠKODA Fabia, ŠKODA Fabia Combi and ŠKODA Roomster all stand out with their unmistakable modern design. Their interiors are highly variable and offer record-breaking loading space. The Fabia Combi, with a baggage volume of 505 to 1,485 litres, need fear no transportation job, the ŠKODA Roomster will even hold 480 to 1,810 litres. Its “VarioFlex” variable seating system in the rear permits a very flexible configuration of the interior for maximum seat count, increased travelling comfort or peak loading volume.

The design of the front ends of the ŠKODA Fabia and the ŠKODA Roomster is dominated by a horizontal line while offering the vehicle height necessary for optimum space comfort. The windows’ visor-like optics have become an unmistakable characteristic of the ŠKODA Roomster and the ŠKODA Fabia. They also provide the driver with a safe view of the entire car and great vistas for all passengers. As in all ŠKODA model lines, C-shaped taillights mark out the cars’ rear.

Inside, high-quality materials and a harmonic layout lend the interior’s a classy appearance. In higher trim levels, chrome inlays and frames create an exceptionally elegant atmosphere uncommon in this class. The dashboard is clearly structured and permits easy operation. Since its launch in 2009, the ŠKODA Yeti has been extremely successful in international markets, posting a plus of 35 per cent in 2011 for the strongest percentage growth of all ŠKODA model lines. The ŠKODA Yeti is a likeable representative of the young segment of compact SUVs. At the same time, it is ready for driving under difficult conditions and will get his passengers to where other vehicles cannot go. Its excellent off-road capabilities make it fit for use beyond paved surfaces. At the same time, its on-road driving dynamics are nothing short of those of a saloon. A five star-rating in the Euro-NCAP crash test is evidence of the car’s comprehensive safety concept.

Off-road-typical design elements create an appearance of ruggedness. The ŠKODA Yeti displays ŠKODA’s typical markings – an expressive slat grille with a chrome brace, large headlights positioned high up and strongly flared wheelhouses and fenders. Plastic sills at the body’s lower edges are the classic marks of an off-road vehicle. The C pillars hide behind black-painted glass surfaces and a standard roof railing rounds off the clear design of this compact SUV. The rear is just as clearly designed, with C-shaped taillights marking the ŠKODA Yeti out as a typical ŠKODA. The vertical tailgate swings up easily and opens wide.

A ground clearance of 180 millimetres and a total length of 4,223 millimetres mean the ŠKODA Yeti is highly adapted for off-road use. The “VarioFlex” seating concept in the rear increases variability and travelling comfort. This variable rear seat system provides the ŠKODA Yeti with flexibility in interior configuration unmatched in its class.

Also debuting in Moscow is the ŠKODA Yeti 1.4 TSI DSG. A combination of a 1.4 litre petrol engine with direct injection and the seven-speed automated double-clutch transmission even makes this ŠKODA Yeti a world debut. It will be displayed in classy “Elegance” trim in Black Magic and impresses with its powerful 90 kW engine.

The ŠKODA Superb is the brand’s top model. As does the entire model palette, so the Superb sets standards in its segment thanks to its space offering: the ŠKODA Superb is the roomiest saloon in its class and also leaves the competition far behind thanks to it having the largest seating space in the back.

ŠKODA’s top model’s outward shape language combines dynamics and elegance. Its three-dimensional grille with its finely modelled chrome brace provides the front end with a high-quality appearance. The ŠKODA Superb stands solid and confident. Its distinctive stretched roofline points to an excellent space offering for passengers and especially generous room in the rear. The taillights are in keeping with the basics of ŠKODA’s design. By day, their straight and precious shape is pleasing. At night, they light up in ŠKODA’s model palette’s typical night design, creating a C-shaped light source.

The ŠKODA Superb’s interior impresses with an above-average space offering. Transversal mounting of the engine and transmission maximizes interior space. Driver and passengers both in front and on the back seat travel in superior comfort. In addition, the interior’s finely matched mix of materials and excellent workmanship will satisfy even the most demanding tastes.

The Superb saloon’s innovative “TwinDoor” tailgate concept is “simply clever,” offering a patented variable opening of the rear hatch. The boot lid can be opened by itself at the touch of the button, or the entire hatch including the rear window can swing up as needed. This roughly doubles the effective opening of the boot, which will hold 565 litres in the saloon. Folding down the rear seatbacks will increase this to 1,670 litres.

Additional production facilities available

As part of its growth plans, Škoda will be able to use more production capacity in Russia. With ŠKODA production operational at Volkswagen’s Russian plant in Kaluga, the brand is in the process of ramping up production of additional ŠKODA models at its Russian partner GAZ’s plant in Nizhniy Novgorod. “We intend to sell more cars in Russia, which is why we are using more production capacity in the country,” says the Škoda CEO. “We aim to further increase our local production and move even closer to the Russian market and Russian customers.”

Škoda’s 2018 growth strategy generating results

ŠKODA’s investment in production, models and markets are a resolute extension of the brand’s 2018 growth strategy introduced almost two years ago. “Our 2018 growth strategy is generating tangible results,” says Vahland. “In 2011 and in the first half of 2012, we have achieved new records and raised sales, revenue and profit.” Sales revenues rose 6.6 per cent to 5.7 billion euros in the first half of 2012 (2011: 5.4 billion euros). Operating profit reached 449 million euros, up 9.0 per cent year on year. Deliveries to customers worldwide rose 8.1 per cent to over 565,600 units (2011: 523,200) in January through July 2012. The brand outperformed the market in almost all sales regions, raising market share.

In Russia, Škoda grew 41.5 per cent to 54,700 cars sold in the first seven months. Market share rose to almost 3.5 per cent (2011: 2.8 per cent). The most popular Škoda model in Russia in the first seven months was the Škoda Octavia, which advanced 32.7 per cent to almost 24,800 units sold. This means that currently, the Octavia accounts for about half of the brand’s sales in Russia. Also wildly popular with Russian customers is the Škoda Yeti compact SUV, which increased its sales by about 126 per cent from January to July 2012. Škoda flagship, the Superb, is also selling well in the country, deliveries rising to about 3,000 units January through July. Sales of the Škoda Fabia advanced 18.6 per cent to about 13,400 units in the same period. The Roomster sold far more than 1,000 in Russia in the first seven months of this year, representing a plus of 95.7 per cent as compared to January through July 2011.

Škoda’s Russian success story

In 2004, ŠKODA founded Škoda AUTO Russia, its import company. In 2005, the first full sales year for the new company, the brand sold around 7,500 cars. In 2011, sales in Russia reached 74,100 units, the equivalent of almost a tenfold increase with seven years. The portion of cars made locally rose steadily in the process. Until the end of 2007, ŠKODA sold only imported cars in Russia. In late 2007, SKD assembly of the Škoda Octavia Tour began at Kaluga plant. In 2008, CKD production of the Octavia followed at Kaluga including dedicated body construction, paint shop and assembly. CKD production of the Škoda Fabia began in Kaluga in April 2010. In October 2011 SKD production of the ŠKODA Yeti commenced at the GAZ plant in Nizhniy Novgorod. In Russia, Škoda relies on a dependable domestic dealer network for sales of its retail cars. The number of authorized Škoda dealers currently is 121.
