SEAT presents the new Ibiza and the new Alhambra 2015

Martorell, 07/05/2015. – At this year’s edition of the Barcelona Motor Show, SEAT emerges once again as a prominent exhibitor at their homegrown car showcase event, where today they presented two world firsts – the new Ibiza 2015 and the new Alhambra 2015. SEAT President Jürgen Stackmann was at the company stand to unveil these two important models on the first press day of the event.

Stackmann emphasised that “the new Ibiza has been improved in every aspect. It retains all its alluring exterior design while masterfully incorporating state-of-the-art technology and greater quality workmanship. It also features a new lineup of more powerful and more efficient EU6 engines as well as the most advanced technology in its segment in terms of infotainment and connectivity. All of these novelties contribute to improving comfort and ensure driving pleasure”. He added that “SEAT is Technology to enjoy. The new Ibiza forges ahead with the character and design inspired by the city of Barcelona, complemented today by the most modern, innovative technology”.

Another star attraction at the SEAT stand this year is the SEAT 20V20 showcar, which the Spanish public can admire for the first time since its world premiere at the recent Geneva Motor Show. Yet another model that will be on display for the first time to the Spanish public is the SEAT Leon ST CUPRA, a vehicle that combines the versatility of the Leon estate body style with the performance of its mighty 280 PS 2.0 TSI engine.

SEAT will also be present in different areas of the Barcelona Motor Show exhibition space, such as the “Urban Mobility” area, with a compressed natural gas-powered Leon TGI, and the “Sketch Car Design” space, which will give visitors insights into the creation process of a vehicle.

New SEAT Ibiza 2015: Efficiency, technology and connectivity

The arrival of the new Ibiza 2015 is a qualitative leap for the star Spanish model. It retains all its alluring exterior design while masterfully incorporating state-of-the-art technology and high quality workmanship. In this regard, the new Ibiza 2015 includes infotainment and connectivity systems that are unique to its segment, such as the new dashboard-integrated touchscreen that can reach up to 6.5 inches in size, featuring USB connector, Bluetooth, audio streaming, navigator and the option of having “full link”, a system that guarantees maximum connectivity and compatibility with all kinds of smartphones that run on either Android or IOS operating systems. In addition, it also includes the “MirrorLink” system, which displays the user interface of the smartphone applications on the car’s in-vehicle infotainment screen.

In the first stage of development, SEAT created a specific App called “SEAT Driver”, which enables the driver to safely use a mobile phone. It has a lot of features, with applications that foster efficient driving by storing journeys and comparing them, others that concern the status of the vehicle, where it is located – the phone can lead us to where it is parked, and a very useful one that involves reading social media posts and tweets, instant messages and email text out loud.

This is the first step in the developments that SEAT is making in connectivity and the integration of smartphone use while driving. Very soon new, more advanced developments will be available thanks to a strategic agreement struck with Samsung.

The passenger compartment of the Ibiza 2015 also features a newly designed instrument panel and fully customisable interiors. In addition, this SEAT model features a new range of lower displacement but more powerful and efficient Euro 6 engines with lower fuel consumption and emissions, as well as new suspension ratings and a new steering system, which elevate it to a higher class of driving pleasure.

New SEAT Alhambra 2015: Intelligent and innovative

The new Alhambra 2015 demonstrates how SEAT continues to equip its products with state-of-the-art technologies. The exterior of this intelligent, versatile MPV prominently features new rear light clusters with LED technology that display SEAT’s distinct design trait, an effect that is enhanced by the new brand logo located on the front grille, rear hatch, steering wheel and newly designed wheels.

The interior is available with new trim colours and the design of the steering wheel and some of the control elements has been upgraded. The keyless entry and start system is another feature that has been included for greater comfort. In addition, the new Alhambra 2015 comes equipped with a new generation of the SEAT Easy Connect infotainment systems. These systems feature high resolution touchscreens and upgraded processors that help speed up booting and give faster route calculation.

It also comes equipped as standard with the multicollision brake system. When the driver is no longer able to intervene following an accident, this system automatically activates the car’s brakes to avoid any secondary collisions. An additional new feature on the range is the blind spot sensor, a system that alerts the driver of the presence of vehicles in the vicinity of his blind spot when attempting a lane change. Another novelty on the new Alhambra is the DCC adaptive chassis control. Furthermore, the newly engineered seats with massage function also provide great comfort on long trips.

The entire petrol and diesel engine lineup of the Alhambra 2015 has been completely revamped. All the models comply with stringent Euro 6 emissions regulations and the direct fuel injection turbo units are 15% more fuel efficient. The 2.0 TDI engines are available on the 115, 150 and 184 PS versions. The two TSI petrol engines deliver 150 and 220 PS output and the latter delivers 20 PS more than the previous version. The 150 PS TDI version is also available with permanent four wheel drive.

SEAT 20V20 showcar: The brand’s vision of the future

SEAT is exhibiting a clear vision of the future of the brand to the Spanish public for the first time – the SEAT 20V20 showcar, represented in the shape of an extremely sporty, powerful SUV. The sculptural silhouette of this athletic vehicle gives a glimpse of the development of the Spanish brand’s design language.

The SEAT 20V20 (2020 Vision) combines the dynamic silhouette of a four-door sports coupe with the elegance of an SUV and the versatility and usability of a compact. SEAT’s new showcar definitely cuts a fine figure with its 20 inch wheels and full LED headlight expressivity. Standing 4.659 metres long, the “twenty-twenty” perfectly suits the European market. In the interior, the 20V20 features a spacious, high-quality atmosphere for five people, where leather, aluminium and glass are the primary materials. However, the showcar’s most important aspect is the precise, quality workmanship that underscores the essence of the SEAT brand.

With the outstanding versatility of its interior space and more than 600 litre capacity luggage compartment, the 20V20 indicates the path SEAT is taking in technological development. An exclusive device, the SEAT Personal Drive, does triple duty as an ignition key, a connecting element in the interior and a driver assistant as a navigation system outside the car that leads the driver back to where the 20V20 is parked.

The exceptional efficiency of the Spanish brand’s showcar derives from intelligent development and optimised chassis design. In addition, a comprehensive package of driver assistance systems further enhances comfort and safety levels. A set of freely programmable, highly customisable screens stand out on the dashboard that guarantee intuitive, ergonomic use of the vehicle. The SEAT Connect technology makes the 20V20 V20 no stranger to an ever interconnected world thanks to perfect integration and a simple approach that is largely voice controlled.

The broad engine range enables the addition of powerful TSI engines that deliver up to 300 PS, as well as equally powerful and efficient TDI engines up to 240 PS. Both are available as plug-in hybrids with an exclusively electric drive option. Furthermore, power is transmitted to the wheels by a DSG gearbox and it features electronically controlled four-wheel drive.
SEAT Leon ST CUPRA: An estate that is unique in its segment
The Leon range has completed the offering of its sportiest, most powerful version with the arrival of the new Leon ST CUPRA, a vehicle that features a combination of design flair and versatility with the highest level of performance that is unique in its segment. The Leon ST CUPRA 280 only takes 6.0 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/ from a standstill and the luggage compartment has a maximum load capacity of 1,470 litres, adding up to a perfect balance of functionality and performance.

High technology elements lie behind the enormous potential of the new Leon ST CUPRA. This is evidenced by its dual injection, variable distribution 2.0 TSI engine, which delivers a power output of 280 PS. To name a few, DCC adaptive chassis control, active VAQ self-locking differential, progressive steering and standard full LED headlights are some of its state-of-the-art technological features.

The sportiness of the Leon ST CUPRA can be further enhanced with the optional Performance Package, which includes a high performance, four-piston Brembo brake calliper system with 370 x 32 mm perforated front discs, exclusive 19 inch wheels (in a colour choice of Black and Orange) with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and exterior side mouldings. Additional novelties include the Line packages featuring exclusive colours, enabling the door mirrors, front grille surround, wheels and CUPRA logo on the rear hatch to project a distinctive look in either White or Black, or even the typical Orange found on the Cup Racer racing version.
Active SEAT presence at the Motor Show
The wide array of novelties exhibited by SEAT at the Barcelona Motor Show is complemented by active presence in two dedicated areas for public appreciation – “Urban Mobility” and “Sketch Car Design”.

In the first space, as founding member of the LIVE Platform, SEAT is displaying a compressed natural gas-powered Leon TGI, the company’s safest, most economical contribution that points to the Spanish brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility. The “Urban Mobility” zone aims to raise awareness of new service and technology trends that are being introduced in urban environments to highlight sustainable mobility and the Smart City concept.

And in the “Sketch Car Design” space, SEAT will take centre stage with an exhibit featuring the design process of a vehicle, from the dawn of an idea in the mind of a designer through to the end result of a finished car. Throughout the process, visitors can admire car parts, find information panels with designs, watch videos and see inspiration boards, all related to car design and drawings. A SEAT Leon will be on display at the end of the exhibit so the public can appreciate the final result of the process and every single detail found on the model. The successful model from Spain is now even better

New SEAT Ibiza – State-of-the-Art Technology

  • New efficient engines with three or four cylinders
  • SEAT Easy Connect with Full Link for perfect smartphone integration
  • Agile driving with significantly improved comfort
  • New individualisation packages with bold colours

Martorell, 07/05/2015. SEAT is launching the New Ibiza with a package of innovative technologies. New engines, individual equipment options, additional safety systems and, above all, a completely new line-up of connectivity and infotainment once again make the Ibiza range one of the best and most multi-faceted offerings in its class. The new running gear brings comfort onto a whole new level, while the redesigned interior raises the quality look & feel even further. In one area, however, there was very little to improve – the Ibiza’s emotional and dynamic design is exceptionally well received by customers and is a central purchasing reason for the compact Spanish model.

“The New Ibiza, which will arrive at dealers in late summer 2015, will further expand SEAT’s current success. It is the first example of how we Leonize our Portfolio applying the successful formula of Leon into all models of our range. Alongside efficiency, quality and safety, we have placed particular emphasis on the issue of connectivity. The new Ibiza is now part of the connected world,” says Jürgen Stackmann, President and CEO of SEAT S.A. “The Ibiza is SEAT’s most successful model, with more than five million sold throughout the world over the last 30 years. With an average age of 43, the Ibiza has an exceptionally young customer base, with the share of young women likewise well above average.”

Connectivity is a central factor is today’s world – and a focal point when it comes to developing SEAT models. In the new Ibiza, the Spanish brand is using the second generation of its Easy Connect infotainment systems. The new MediaSystem plus and the Navi System can also be enhanced with the MirrorLink function, which provides perfect integration of smartphones into the car infotainment system. Thanks to MirrorLink, mobile phone functions and a wide range of apps can be used safely inside the vehicle. Taking this opportunity, SEAT has developed its own app for MirrorLink, called SEAT DriveApp. SEAT can connect the most frequently smpartphone systems. The Full Link (comprising with MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) connection between Easy Connect in the New SEAT Ibiza means that new Ibiza drivers are always connected, whatever smartphone they use and able to retain their full concentration on the road. In line with this connectivity, SEAT has announced a partnership agreement with SAMSUNG to develop technological solutions to provide total connectivity across SEAT’s range of models.

“With the New Ibiza, we are opening up a new chapter of connectivity. Our customers can continue their digital lifestyle, even when on the road. However, the key issue for us is always the safest and most intuitive operation of the functions,” says Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT Vice President for Research and Development. “With its new engines, its considerably more comfortable but still very dynamic and agile suspension and its new assistance systems, the Ibiza is one of the most modern and attractive offerings on the market.”

The exterior design of the five-door Ibiza, the three-door Ibiza SC Sport Coupé and the Ibiza ST Sport Tourer estate variant is still absolutely up-to-the-minute and extremely well received by customers and potential customers alike. Modifications are therefore limited to new headlamps with LED daytime running lights, new wheel designs in 16 and 17 inches and the new paint colours Moonstone Grey and Chilli Red.
Significantly upgraded interior
The concept behind the broad design appeal of the new interior is that it features fully customisable elements that resonate with everyone by striking a harmonious balance between expressivity, functionality and precision on each of the contours and surfaces that define the interior. Its horizontal proportions and the driver-oriented instrument panel provide enhanced driving pleasure, thanks to the arrangement of all the elements and its soft-touch finish. Attention to detail is displayed in every feature – on the steering wheel, the air vents, the instrument panel and binnacle and the radio. The new interface has been designed to highlight the relationship between the driver and technology by creating character lines that add functionality to the exact definition of its use, while the screen design provides the driver with a physical reference.

The resulting interior design is a reflection of a product that has been inspired by and conceived in our surroundings, Barcelona, and displays a formal simplicity of striking character lines that sum up our brand image.
New level of individualisation
The New Ibiza is as diverse and colourful as life itself. The new Colour Packs for the the entire Ibiza family offer a whole new level of individualisation. The compact car from Barcelona can be adapted to suit any personal style perfectly. The Colour Packs make a bold statement. Bismuth, an elegant shade of brown, is among them, as is Velvet, a rich purple. There is also a powerful red on offer, cool grey, as well as white, black and blue – the right Colour Pack for every personal preference.

Each Colour Pack comes with a wide range of trim elements in the respective colour. On the outside, the rim of the radiator grille and the exterior mirror housings gleam in Velvet, Atom Grey or one of the other colours. Inside, the air vent bezels and the detailing on the steering wheel and gear lever are part of the colour package, as are the coloured stripes set into the seat backrests. One characteristic element is the two-colour alloy wheels in 16 or 17 inches. There are a large number of possible combinations between the Ibiza’s paint colour and the Colour Pack.

And with three body shapes, three equipment lines and a wide range of engines and equipment options, there is the perfect Ibiza to suite every need.
New safety systems
Drowsiness at the wheel is still the cause of many and severe accidents. The new drowsiness warning system in the SEAT Ibiza recognises diminishing driver concentration on the basis of steering characteristics, and provides a timely warning. Another new safety system is the multi-collision brake. Following a severe collision, it automatically slows down the vehicle to dissipate the remaining kinetic energy. If the airbag is activated by the initial collision, the electronic stability programme applies the brakes and switches on the hazard lights.
Complete new engine generation
The SEAT Ibiza is driven by a completely new generation of petrol and TDI engines. The entry-level petrol engine is a three-cylinder with 1.0-litre displacement, which produces 55 kW (75 PS) in naturally aspirated format and 70 kW (95 PS) or 81 kW (110 PS) as TSI turbocharged drives. With maximum torque of 160 or even 200 Nm, the 1.0 TSI has impressive pulling power. A further highlight is the four cylinder 1.4 TSI ACT with active cylinder management. Its improved output of 110 kW (150 PS) and torque of 250 Nm guarantee a high level of dynamic driving fun, while its cylinder deactivation under partial load limits fuel consumption to 4.8 litres in the standard cycle (all consumption figures relate to the Ibiza).
Maximum efficiency
The three and four-cylinder units, of course, fulfil all the latest EU6 emissions standards and are compelling all-round for their excellent fuel consumption and emissions figures. One example is the 1.0 TSI Ecomotive with 70 kW (95 PS) and an average consumption of just 4.1 litres per 100 kilometres, which equates to a CO2 figure of 94 grams per kilometre. Among the new three-cylinder diesel engines, the 1.4 TDI with 55 kW (75 PS) achieves fuel consumption of 3.4 litres, which equates to an emissions figure of 88 grams per kilometre. None of the other TDI drives, with 66 kW (90 PS) or 77 kW (105 PS), consume more than 3.8 litres.

The TSI with 81 kW and the TDI with 66 kW are optionally available with the comfortable DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The start/stop system, which switches off the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill, is available in all new-generation SEAT Ibizas.
Driving fun with more comfort
The New Ibiza has always received top marks for being dynamic and fun to drive. In its new generation, the Ibiza has been further refined with a particularly sensitive electric steering system. Benefitting even more, however, is ride and handling, with springs, dampers and anti-roll bars being completely re-tuned. The optional SEAT Drive Profile enables adaptive damping. There are two available parameters – comfort-oriented or sports-oriented. The Comfort/Sport selector switch also influences the intensity of the power steering.
Latest-generation infotainment
The latest-generation infotainment systems with touchscreen operation and integrated Navi System can receive DAB digital radio and play music from an iPod or smartphone via a USB port or Bluetooth profile. Voice control is integrated as of the MediaSystem plus and smartphone integration Mirror Link can also be selected for perfect connectivity while travelling. For a really rich sound, there is the new SEAT Sound System. Six speakers, a ten-litre bass box in the boot, an additional amplifier and individual setting options in the sound menu will satisfy even the most discerning of ears.

Four optional ultrasound sensors front and rear provide proximity monitoring when parking, and deliver warnings both acoustically and via the display. A reversing camera is also available as an option. It aids parking by displaying guidelines in the monitor.
Perfect for an active lifestyle
The New Ibiza is still offered in the three bodyshell variants, five-door, Ibiza SC Sport Coupé and Ibiza ST Sport Tourer. The estate model in particular offers a surprisingly high degree of utility in such a compact package. Despite its sporty design line, the luggage space is very generous, with a volume of 430 to a maximum of 1,164 litres. For those with an active lifestyle, there is even space for two bicycles, with their front wheels detached, of course.

The base Reference model already makes a compelling argument, with all major items of comfort and safety equipment. Above that is the Style version, with air conditioning and colour touch screen among its standard appointments. The Ibiza FR makes a particular statement with its accentuated design at the front and rear and dedicated alloy wheels. More than ever before, the new Ibiza can also be perfectly adapted to personal style and individual preferences, with an extensive array of colours, options and accessories.

The New Alhambra – Intelligent and Innovative

  • Worldpremiere at the Barcelona Motorshow
  • New TDI and TSI engines consume up to 15 percent less
  • New-generation infotainment systems – always on
  • New comfort and assistance systems

Martorell, 15/04/2015. – SEAT is continuing its product offensive with the new generation of the Alhambra that the Spanish carmaker is unveiling to the world at the Barcelona Motor Show. The intelligent and versatile van is up to 15 percent more fuel efficient thanks to its new engines and even more dynamic thanks to increased power output. The Alhambra remains at the very forefront of the competitive field with new comfort and assistance systems, as well as innovative connectivity and infotainment offerings. The new Alhambra will arrive at dealerships this summer, with pre-ordering starting on end of May.

“Alhambra has seen a year of record sales in 2014. Innovation, driving fun, utility and safety are the keywords for the new-generation Alhambra, making it the perfect partner for an active lifestyle,” says Jürgen Stackmann, Chairman of the Executive Committee SEAT, S.A. “Its compelling concept combines the very best functionality and state-of-the-art technology with an excellent standard of quality and workmanship. Plus, in true SEAT fashion, it offers incredible value for money.”

The line-up of petrol and diesel engines has been completely redeveloped. All drives fulfil the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard. The turbocharged direct-injection units are also up to 15 percent more fuel efficient. The Alhambra TDI with 85 or 110 kW, for instance, is at the very forefront of its segment with fuel consumption of 4.9 litres/100 km and 130 grams of CO2 per km.

The 2.0 TDI engines are offered with 85 kW / 115 PS, 110 kW / 150 PS and 135 kW / 184 PS (torque 380 Nm). The two TSI petrol engines produce 110 kW / 150 PS and 162 kW / 220 PS (350 Nm of torque) from the top-of-the-range version, marking 20 PS more than the previous engine. The TDI variant with 110 kW / 150 PS is also available as a 4Drive with permanent all-wheel drive.

“The Alhambra stays at the very forefront with its further improved fuel consumption and emissions figures. With its new technologies, it provides the best possible combination of dynamic driving fun and excellent comfort.” says Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT Executive Vice President for Research and Development.

With the exception of the entry-level diesel, all engines can be combined with the DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission (standard with the top petrol engine). The new-generation DSG offers the fuel-saving coasting function. As soon as the driver lifts off the accelerator, the Alhambra runs with the engine decoupled.

The new Alhambra comes with a new generation of SEAT Easy Connect infotainment systems. These include high-resolution touchscreen displays and the very latest processors for much faster booting and rapid route calculation, offering as well, a completely new level of connectivity.

The multi-collision brake is also standard equipment in the new Alhambra. In the event that the driver can no longer intervene following an accident, it initiates automatic braking to avoid a secondary collision. New to the line-up is the Blind-Spot Sensor, which warns of vehicles in the blind spot when changing lane. Also new in the Alhambra is the DCC adaptive chassis control. The system regulates the damper valves in a matter of milliseconds to adapt the vehicle characteristics to fit perfectly with the driving situation – for supreme comfort and relaxed sporting flair. The new massage seats also deliver an exceptionally high level of long-distance comfort.

The Alhambra’s design has been subtly updated. New rear lights with LED technology display SEAT’s distinctive light signature, which underscores its family connections, as do the new brand logo set into the modified front grille and the new wheel designs. The interior comes with new trim colours, the steering wheel design is from the SEAT Leon and some of the control elements have been redesigned. The keyless entry and start system is another comfort feature. The equipment lines have been restructured so that the Alhambra will now be offered as Reference, Style and Style Advanced.

SEAT 20V20 Showcar – Vision of the Brand’s Future

  • SEAT at the Barcelona Motor Show
  • Displayed for the first time to the Spanish public
  • Perspective on an extremely dynamic, four-door SUV coupé
  • Systematic evolution of the SEAT design language
  • Further development of the SEAT product DNA
  • Extreme precision in all details, innovative use of premium materials
  • Innovative drive technologies, assistance systems, connectivity

Martorell 07/05/2015.- SEAT unveils its 20V20 showcar to the Spanish public, SEAT is presenting a clear perspective on the future of the brand. The SEAT 20V20 showcar is the vision of an extremely sporty and powerful SUV. This athletic and muscular vehicle marks a systematic development of the Spanish brand’s highly praised design language. The 20V20 redefines the meaning of sports-utility in this vehicle class, because driving fun simply cannot look any better and utility simply cannot be any sportier.

The SEAT 20V20 (meaning “vision veinte veinte”, Spanish for 20:20) combines the dynamic silhouette of a four-door sports coupé with the refinement of an SUV and the versatility and utility of a mid-size estate car. SEAT’s new showcar displays the powerful tension of an athlete under starter’s orders, with the clear precision of a fine instrument and with the sensuality of a perfect body gleaming in the sun. It was designed with the passion of the Spanish brand. It is painted in ultra orange, a colour of an intensity that can only be created in the clear light of Barcelona’s morning sun.

“The 20V20 is a new calling card for the SEAT brand,” says Jürgen Stackmann, Chairman and CEO of SEAT S.A. “With the 20V20, we are demonstrating how we will develop the unique and highly successful SEAT design language for forthcoming models . Design is already one of the most important reasons for buying a SEAT and we intend to build on this strength, along with technology. Many details of the 20V20 will be evident in future production models. Also important is the fact that we are now applying the winning Leon formula to the entire range and for sure it will be the winning SEAT formula for the future”.

The SEAT 20V20 is sure to look powerful and refined in any given situation. With its 20-inch wheels and the determined expression conveyed by its adaptive full-LED headlamps, this sports utility has a robust stance that is in no way aggressive. At a length of 4.659 metres, the “veinte-veinte” also fits perfectly into the European landscape. Despite its low and dynamic lines, the 20V20 offers a generous amount of space and premium ambience for five. Natural leather, crafted with exquisite three-dimensionality using an innovative process, aluminium and dark glass are the dominant materials. What matters more, however, is the precision and quality of the craftsmanship with which the showcar demonstrates one of the cores of the SEAT brand.

“veinte-veinte shows clearly SEAT’s ambition for the future. Our future design language on the one hand, and on the other, the positioning of our brand for young spirited customers on a five year horizon,” says Jürgen Stackmann, Chairman and CEO of SEAT S.A. “This is how we see the brand in the future, bold, characterful, technology driven, connected and attractive for customers to have SEAT on their shopping list. SEAT is to have a change from gravity towards higher segments and higher profitability. “

With its highly versatile interior and more than 600 litres of luggage space, the four-door SUV coupé concept marks a systematic development of the SEAT brand’s technology platform. A unique SEAT Personal Drive Device serves as the ignition key and operating interface inside the car and as a pedestrian navigation system when outside the car – guiding you directly back to the 20V20, should you ever happen to forget where it is parked. Intelligent lightweight design is a given at SEAT. In combination with body development, this enhances the exceptional efficiency of the 20V20, while a comprehensive package of driver assistance systems raises the levels of comfort and safety even further. In the cockpit, the freely programmable virtual displays can be extensively individualised, ensuring highly intuitive and ergonomic operation of the vehicle. The SEAT Connect technologies on-board make the 20V20 an integral part of the networked world. Perfect integration and simple operation, largely via voice control, are givens. The array of drive options is multi-faceted and accommodates powerful TSI drives of up to around 220 kW / 300 PS as well as TDI engines that are as powerful as they are efficient, with up to 176 kW / 240 PS – both, of course, also as plug-in hybrids with the option for electric-only driving. The power is delivered to the wheels via the DSG transmission and electronically controlled all-wheel drive.

“We are showing with the 20V20 showcar what a good fit such a sporty SUV is for our brand. The SEAT design language is unmistakeable and will be even more enticing and expressive in future. We’re also working hard on the ongoing development of the innovative package of technologies featured in the 20V20. We are well prepared for any challenge the future has to offer,” says Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT Executive Vice President for Research and Development. “The 20V20 is extremely dynamic, yet possesses a compelling degree of utility. And it provides the platform for all kinds of drives, from high-performance TDI to plug-in hybrid, and for the very latest assistance systems. Our SEAT Connect technologies make every SEAT a fully integrated part of the networked world”
The Design – full of tension, sensual, powerful
“Barcelona is our home and our inspiration. The clarity of the light helps with the clarity of the ideas. We are passionate perfectionists and we are showing that here with this showcar,” says Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, Head of SEAT Design. “Our 20V20 has a clear look, with powerful forward momentum. It possesses phenomenal tension and great depth of sensuality.”

SEAT is taking a major step into the future with this 2020 vision – thus continuing its clear development path. This showcar originates from a distinct and unique brand image – SEAT is perfectionist in its demands and passionate in its expression. The 20V20 embodies both, in the precision with which every single line is logically thought out and finely executed, and in the excitement it inspires in the beholder.

“Automotive beauty is based on two factors,” says Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos: “The perfect balance of proportions and the clarity of the design content.” Substantial, 20-inch wheels, a long 2791 mm wheelbase, a 1648 mm wide track in the front and 1638 mm in the rear, and low greenhouse with a straight roofline give the 20V20 very taut, dynamic proportions. “These horizontal lines and the characteristic SEAT blisters on the sides give it very clear forward momentum. They convey the feeling of speed and directional clarity – like an arrow.”

Tension is another element used by SEAT designers – the coiled tension of an athlete just prior to the start. The slightly rearward positioning of the greenhouse, giving the sense of a very long bonnet, the perfect proportions of wheels, to metal, to glass, the pointed front end and the negative turn-in at the rear all reinforce this impression.

This is further enhanced by very sculptural treatment of the lines and surfaces. The wheel arches are powerfully accentuated front and rear and framed by slender, powerfully three-dimensional and structured surfaces. The sculptural impression is heightened considerably by the paintwork developed specifically for the “veinte-veinte”. Not only is ultra orange particularly luminescent, it also possesses enormous visual depth.

This impression of a muscular body is created by a systematic process of detailing. A radius, such as on the outer side of the door, is never constant. Instead, it increases in one direction, while tightening in the other. Like a muscle. On the other hand, some of the edges, such as those on the characteristic SEAT blisters along the sides, are sharper than ever. The radius here measures an unbelievably tight 1.1 millimetres. Moreover, each edge is highlighted with a negative turn. This kind of high-precision design is a huge challenge when it comes to bodyshell manufacturing – but also a major SEAT competence as evidenced today in the current SEAT Leon.

The front end of the 20V20 features the X-shape as a fundamental design element. The V-shape of the bonnet and the grille stands for dynamism and forward momentum. The front bumper, with its inverted V, stands for stability and robustness, for a firm stance on the road. The showcar’s full-LED headlamps also convey distinctive character. Their focus appears distant; their expression determined and powerful.

The rear-end design also picks up the X reference. The lines are a little subtler, as expressed by the deep draw of the tailgate and the rear bumper. The rear lights possess the characteristic triangular form used in a number of the 20V20’s design details. “We love the triangle at SEAT Design,” says Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. “It isn’t unstable like a circle or immobile like a rectangle. The triangle has direction; it is always dynamic.”

Besides proportions, the most important aspects for SEAT’s chief designer are always the clarity and logic of the lines. Every single line on the 20V20 has a clear relationship with each one of the others. There is not one line too many or superfluous. The balance between richness of form and clarity of logic is quite simply right.
The Interior – generous, precise, premium
The combination of sporty performance, relaxed refinement and precision quality expressed by the exterior design is also evident in the interior of the SEAT 20V20 showcar. With its clear structure and determined driver focus, its form is derived from the design language of the current Leon family, with a consistently forward-looking interpretation.

“A generous, yet safe feeling of space, innovative use of premium materials and, of course, the very latest in information and communication technology make the SEAT 20V20 an oasis of wellbeing on wheels,” says SEAT designer-in-chief Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.

With its high shoulder line, the 20V20 offers a pleasant feeling of solidity and safety that is especially appreciated by SUV drivers, while an enveloping line running around the whole interior creates a feeling of spaciousness. SEAT designers refer to this cohesive impression of space as the loft effect.

In the interior, too, tight radii and flowing lines display the level of precision characteristic of a SEAT. The dominant materials leather, aluminium, glass and high-gloss plastic are of exceptionally high quality and crafted with enormous attention to detail. Everything feels solid and safe – yet, at the same time, airy and lightweight.

Natural leather in saddle brown from Italian specialists Poltrona Frau endows the interior with a look that is both high class and robust. Orange stitching provides a bold contrast and brings the luminescent exterior colour of the “veinte-veinte” into the interior. The leather on the door panels and around the sills has been processed using an innovative technique, creating a distinctly three-dimensional structure. Finely distributed triangles give the surface a surprising vitality.
The Technology – looking into the future
The proverbial key to driving pleasure in the 20V20 is the SEAT Personal Drive Device, a beautiful piece of tactile design in the shape of a large coin. Outside the vehicle, this Personal Device functions as a mobile navigation system, as well as a remote control for functions such as stationary heating or cooling and for managing the charging process on a plug-in hybrid version. When in the vehicle, the SEAT Personal Drive Device is mounted on the centre console using magnets and serves as an operating element for the SEAT Drive Profile individualisation functions.

“Future calls for excellence in connectivity,” says Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT Executive Vice President for Research and Development. “We focus our efforts to continually innovate in this field.”

The whole cockpit of the 20V20 looks like a continuous, high-gloss black panel. Set into it are three TFT screens, the largest of which measures 12.3 inches and serves as the Virtual Cockpit delivering the main driver information, while the navigation, entertainment and connectivity functions are shared between the other screens. The content and presentation can be individualised via SEAT Drive Profile. Mobile phones connect with the system via Bluetooth and can be operated using a touchscreen in the cockpit. It can be charged simply by laying it in the Charge Box located in the centre console. Another touchscreen enables its use from the rear seats.

From the outside, the SEAT 20V20 looks like a four-door sport coupé with a robust character, big 765 mm diameter wheels and heightened 228 mm ground clearance. On the inside and in the boot, however, it comes over as surprisingly spacious, with a compelling degree of utility and more than 600 litres of luggage space. This starts with plenty of room, especially for rear-seat passengers – thanks to the long wheelbase and clever packaging. The variable layout of the rear seat bench means that the “veinte-veinte” can be used as either a four or a five-seater. Beneath the tailgate, with its very low loading edge of 796mm, is an amply proportioned boot. Two luggage trolleys are perfectly integrated into its floor, as well as the Personal Mover. An electric personal urban vehicle comprising a long board with an electric motor that provides a fast and sporty means for the driver to cover the last few metres from parking space to home or office – a perfect match for such a car
