Μια μόλις εβδομάδα πριν την επίσημη παρουσίαση από την BMW, του i3, όπου θα γίνει ταυτόχρονα στο Λονδίνο, στη Νέα Υόρκη και στο Πεκίνο, ανακοινώθηκε και η αρχική τιμή του αυτοκινήτου στη Γεμανία. Το πρώτο της αμιγώς ηλεκτρικό αυτοκίνητο και πρώτο μοντέλο του i brand, θα ξεκινάει από τα €34.950, με τις πωλήσεις και θα ξεκινήσουν οι πωλήσεις του από το Νοέμβριο.
Πριν δέκα μέρες είχαμε μάθει και τα επίσημα τεχνικά χαρακτηριστικά του, όπου το i3 φορά έναν ηλεκτροκινητήρα στον πίσω άξονα απόδοσης 125 kW (170 ίππων) με 250 Nm ροπής, ο οποίος ζυγίζει 50 κιλά. Συνδυάζεται με ένα μονοτάχυτο κιβώτιο με τα 0-60 χλμ/ώρα να τα κάνει σε 3,7 δευτερόλεπτα, τα 0-100 χλμ/ώρα σε 7,2 δευτερόλεπτα, με την τελική ταχύτητα να ανέρχεται στα 150 χλμ/ώρα. Θα κοστίζει ανάμεσα από €35.000 και €40.000 στη Γερμανία, και έχει αυτονομία μεταξύ 130 με 160 χλμ.
Σε ότι αφορά το i3 με range-extended κινητήρα, θα φορά έναν μικρό δικύλινδρο κινητήρα βενζίνης, προερχόμενος από μια μοτοσυκλέτα της BMW. Πρόκειται για τον 652 κ.εκ. της GS απόδοσης 34 ίππων ο οποίος θα φορτίζει την μπαταρία ώστε να επεκτείνει την αυτονομία του i3 στα 300 χλμ, σε σχέση με τα 160 χλμ της αμιγούς ηλεκτρικής έκδοσης. Ο κινητήρας είναι τοποθετημένος στον πίσω άξονα, δίπλα ακριβώς από τον ηλεκτροκινητήρα.
Οι μπαταρίες μπορούν να φορτίσουν κατά 80% μέσα σε μισή ώρα με χρήση ταχυφορτιστή (50 kW), ενώ με χρήση απλής οικιακής πρίζας, οι μπαταρίες φορτίζουν 100% μέσα σε 8 ώρες, ενώ με τον οικιακό φορτιστή BMW i Wallbox, οι μπαταρίες φορτίζουν πλήρως μέσα σε 6 ώρες.
Το πρώτο αμιγώς ηλεκτρικό αυτοκίνητο της BMW δεν διαφέρει σημαντικά από το πρωτότυπο. Η έκδοση παραγωγής φυσικά και δεν διαθέτει τις γυάλινες πόρτες, αφού έχουν αντικατασταθεί από συμβατικές. Αυτές έχουν τοποθετηθεί μάλιστα και πιο πίσω, κάνοντάς τες μικρότερες σε μέγεθος. Πιο συμβατική σχεδίαση έχουν επίσης οι προφυλακτήρες, τα φωτιστικά σώματα και οι καθρέπτες. Επίσης η γραμμή των πίσω παραθύρων δεν είναι σε ευθεία γραμμή, με τους σχεδιαστές της BMW να έχουν επιλέξει μια ασύμμετρη σχεδίασή, με τα πίσω παράθυρα να είναι τοποθετημένα χαμηλότερα σε σχέση με αυτά των μπροστά θυρών.
Ζυγίζει 1.195 κιλά χάρη στο CFRP σασί του, έχοντας αναλογία βάρους 50:50 μπροστά-πίσω. Οι αναρτήσεις του αποτελούνται από γόνατα MacPherson μπροστά και πολλαπλών (5) συνδέσμων πίσω, ενώ πατά στη γη με ζάντες 19″ με ελαστικά διαστάσεων 155/70.
Η BMW καταβάλλει σημαντικές προσπάθειες για να προσελκύσει πελάτες που θα αγοράζουν το νέο i3 και εκτός ότι θα δίνει τη δυνατότητα ενοικίασης ενός συμβατικού μοντέλου της BMW για κάποιες μέρες το χρόνο, αλλά και θα εγκαταστήσει προαιρετικά συσκευές ταχείας φόρτισης στο σπίτι των μελλοντικών αγοραστών.
Στην Αγγλία θα ξεκινά από τις £35.000 (€40.800) για την αμιγώς ηλεκτρική έκδοση και από τις £38.000 (€44.300) για την range-extender έκδοση. Οι πρώτες παραδώσεις αναμένεται να ξεκινήσουν από τα τέλη του Οκτώβρη, με την BMW να έχει ήδη δεχτεί περισσότερες από 100.000 αιτήσεις για test drive του αυτοκινήτου. BMW UK today announced the pricing of one of the most anticipated cars in its history. The all-new BMW i3 will be delivered to customers in the UK in November, 2013 with a leasing price starting from just £369* a month.

Customers entering into an agreement for an all-electrically powered BMW i3 can embark on a world of electric motoring by signing up to a 36 month contract and paying an initial £2,995 (incl. VAT) followed by monthly payments of £369 (incl. VAT) and contract mileage of 24,000miles.
Those customers who wish to buy the BMW i3 outright can do so from £25,680 OTR** for the all electric car, while the price for the range extender version, that features an additional 650cc two-cylinder petrol engine to maintain the battery charge and extend the range to an approximate 180 miles on one tank of fuel, will be announced at a later date.
BMW i3 products and services will be sold via a multi-channel sales model, comprised of authorized BMW i partners, a Customer Interaction Center (CIC) as well as an online platform. All sales channels will be fully networked and customers will be able to personalise their entire purchasing process to suit their needs.
Charging and maintenance
The BMW i3 comes as standard in the UK with AC Fast Charging which sees a 7.4Kw charge power up the BMW i3 from zero to 80 per cent within three hours. This can be performed by the optional BMW i Wallbox. The exclusive Wallbox has been created to give customers a comprehensive and premium sustainable mobility experience. Installation will be provided at the customer’s home and “green” power options will be offered via selected BMW i partners, for emission-free home charging. AC Fast Charging is also the most widespread public charging option in the UK.
Occasional charging can also be performed using a pre-supplied cable, fitting a standard household socket at 3.7Kw, when a 32 Amp AC Fast Charging port is not available. Charging this way takes eight to 10 hours. DC Fast Charging is the third and final option available to owners and allows a BMW i3 to get an 80 per cent charge in just 30 minutes to one hour. It uses a 50Kw connection to do this and is the best option for public locations where quick short charges are required.
The BMW i3 will have its international world premiere on 29 July at parallel events in the megacities of London, New York and Beijing where full details on the BMW i3 range will be revealed.

The Destination & Handling fee in the US is currently $925.

The BMW i3’s 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque hybrid-synchronous electric motor, developed and produced by BMW, is electrified by a 22-kWh lithium-ion battery, good for 80-100 miles of emission-free driving. Designed from the ground up to be an electric car, the BMW i3 uses the Industry’s first mass produced carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell mounted on an aluminum chassis.
The BMW i3 will offer interior space comparable to the legendary BMW 3 Series on a shorter overall body. Its 32.3-foot turning circle and a relatively long wheelbase make it agile and engaging to drive, yet ideally suited to driving in dense urban areas.
Quick and convenient charging is possible either with the home charging station supplied by BMW i or at any public charging station that uses a Level 2 SAE J1772 charging system. DC fast charging, using the SAE DC Combo-Fast Charger, will be available as an option. From a public fast-charging station, it will provide an 80 percent charge from a fully depleted battery in just 20 minutes.
BMW i’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility encompasses the i3 production facilities, where hydro-electric, wind and solar power are used to power the CFRP production facilities in Moses Lake, Washington and the Leipzig, Germany assembly line. Sustainable materials are also used for the BMW i3 interior upholstery and trim.
The BMW i3 will make its world debut at three simultaneous events in New York, London and Beijing on Monday, July 29. It will arrive in US showrooms in the second quarter of 2014.
